This is great. Such a good video. Instead of singular changes you have provided a staged approach. Looking forward to building this into my practise session. ⛳️
Ive watched tons of videos, but this is by far the most most valuable one Ive seen for "my swing". I have begun the downswing by spinning the shoulders for a long time. The drills shown here are helping me to unlearn that. I'm making better contact and have improved my distance and control doing these drills.
You’re not alone, so many golfers transition spin because they’ve been told to use their body to square the club face! It’s essential to understand how to sequence your arms with your body and I’m glad this video helped you understand this concept! Best Of luck! Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
This is absolutely awesome. All of it but especially that last tip about having the trail hip turn into the braced lead hip did it for me! It seems to be the key for striking ball then turf. I’ve been trying to eliminate fat shots for 20 years 😢. Great stuff!
l had been watching your videos and you certainly explain the swing l am trying to ingrain the best. l have a bad back and l have an upright swing. l had felt these feelings you are explaining the good and the bad. l know what l did on the bad l simply screw up but on the good l couldn't figure out the sequence and the why/how/what l was supposed to do but now l know. Thank you.
You’re not alone! I’ve been struggling for years with back pain. You don’t have to torque your back if your body “supports” your hands and arms!! Thanks for watching! Best, Coach A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻
Brilliant Instruction Andrew. When I took up golf many years ago, the leadbetter idea of a body orientated swing with passive arms was the thinking at that time. You are spot on in that this has lead to most of us lunging at the ball with our shoulders to get power. ' let the dog wag the tail' sounded like it made sense. Unfortunately it just doesn't for most of us. Carry on the good work.
Thanks Colin! I’ve never been a method coach! I just don’t believe that one size fits all!! So many unconventional ways to get it done. Bottom line - Find what works for you! I’m glad that my channel is having a positive impact! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Hello Coach A, Due to life events, I've been playing golf off and on for decades. Early on, I wasted my money on golf instructions from a bad instructor; and I've been self taught ever since. (There are not many instructors in my area.) When I needed help with my swing, I turned to UA-cam. Let's just say that, some are better than others. Now that I am retired, I am playing more and trying to improve my game. Thankfully, I recently stumbled upon your channel. I've searched for years and this is the best video that I have found on the principles, goals and timing of a simple, yet very effective golf swing. Very well done Sir! Please keep up your great work of sharing your wisdom of the golf swing with us. Thank you once again...
Excellent explanation of moving the back hip into the front side….into a braced front side for a stabilized brace to sling the club at the target. I have been trying, as you described, to rotate the front hip back but have been pulling a lot of my shots left and a bunch of toe strikes. I tried your explanation and immediately got 10+ years of carry with a push draw ball flight with much better contact.
10:01 What are the pro/cons of extending the trail leg thru impact thru impact as well as rotating the trail knee (like Fred Couples). Thanks for your video - helps alot!
Keep it simple as far as ground mechanics go!! Bottom line you’re pushing into and out of the ground with the lead leg which helps throw the club out and away from you quicker through impact. Here’s a YT short that I think about sums up ground mechanics. You can go down a dark hole with this stuff or have some simple images that you can successfully take to the golf course. I would highly recommend the latter!! Good luck A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻⬇️ ua-cam.com/users/shortsednbK3YRvqk?si=gCLRdWisKsxLj8Dt
@@AndrewEmeryGolf Thanks for sharing your perspective & thanks for the short. I agree on a bad day, one can quickly tie oneself in knots. 40 years ago, my golf instructor had me doing the feet together drill. Good advice is timeless! In my younger days, I was seduced by then current thought that swing speed depended upon body rotation and, admittedly, I played some good golf. Age and injury have caught up to me and I have had to relearn my golf swing. Thanks so much for reminding me of the lessons I had forgotten! Ball striking has drastically improved. One troublesome glitch occasionally pops up though: If my trail shoulder drops when my trail hand moves down, I will hit it fat. I have been trying to get the feel of my lead shoulder moving away from my chin rather than thinking about my trail arm dropping which seems to help. Am I thinking about this correctly? Thanks again for helping out us old-timers!
Robert, thanks for the salient points. Make sure you’re not tipping too much! Gotta swing around the lead leg but allow your arms to pull you through! (FEEL!). Get after it! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻

How close to your body should your hands be during the downswing and as you hit the ball? How low should they be, also, for example at waist level or above or below? Thanks....good video.
Hand Path is critical but is influenced greatly by the movement of the body and arms. Certainly in the transition your hands should remain close to you. At impact your hand position will vary depending on your grip strength and club face orientation! Stronger grip - hands further forward and higher at impact. Neutral grip hand less forward and lower at impact. One size doesn’t fit all!! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
I have been working hard on these drills, amazing how effortlessly I’m hitting the ball. I’m 64, and bad habits from other sites about getting the left hip out of the way use your hands don’t use your hands, it’s just a turn back turn through etc…. Many years ago when I first started playing I had a wicked slice from being a power baseball hitter. An old guy/ teacher jad me do back to target drills to get rid of the slice. And it did, these drills help reinforce all my mistakes can be simplified.. I barely swing and smoothly hit my driver 225. I need to work on some speed next
For sure in the transition! Linear Momentum comes from the hands and arms applying force against the grip as the club changes direction. From there that energy is traded for angular momentum as the wrists unhinge and re-hinge. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻
Good video. I'd add that optimal angular momentum of the clubhead comes from effective implementation of the double-pendulum. Getting this right negates squaring the clubface with the hands at impact.
@@AndrewEmeryGolf Thanks for your reply. If you get the pendulum mechanism right you will feel that freedom you speak of in your forearms. The clubhead swings or orbits around the hands as if without effort. The key reference for this is CB Daish 1971 The Physics of Ball Games.
I am the guy with the spaghetti noodle left knee. I never finish balanced on the left side. I will try and use this lesson to improve impact and finish. Stabilizing left side could be what I am missing. Thanks Andrew, Great coaching!
Don’t snap that knee back! That’s not the answer and could cause some nagging injuries! Rather, feel like you’re crushing a bug under your left heel as you strike the ball. If you kick the ground the ground will always win and kick back!! That will help you stabilize your lead leg! Best, Coach A. 🦟🦟🦟
It’s likely you’re transition spinning and then over rotating the club at impact. Keep your back to the target longer. Start with the club face aimed a few degrees “open” at address. Like everything in golf. It’s not all hands, arms or body. It’s a harmonious marriage between all three. I think possibly what’s missing is an attention to tension in your arms as you swing.
