I love Lazzaro - nicest one of the lot. Mirella was irritating but I felt sorry for her at the last dinner. Lazzaro was sweet to her though.

So on Lou's nite mirella refused to eat the pork in the main course but she had no issue eating the pork sausage which was in the appetizer?? 😒
The sausage is mostly made from the unused body of the animal, such as ears, tail, claws, tail, fat..

The best gnocchi I ever had was made by my Ukrainian Baba, it was a staple in her kitchen....when I travelled through Italy, (beautiful country, just heart achingly beautiful), I had some nice gnocchi, but never anything close to hers...I keep trying to replicate them, but have never succeeded.

Those are not cannoli she is making cream horns made with puff pastry and a lemon flavored pastry cream but cannoli are made with a cookie type pastry filled with ricotta, chocolate chips and some times candied fruit i'm Sicilian and Rice balls and you put the sauce, mozzarella and sometimes peas
then make them in a ball roll them in egg mixture and then bread crumbs and fry

Except for Lazzaro none of the others were Italian born and bred. When people of a certain nationality or ethnicity do not grow up in the countries of their orgins, their cuisines are most often not original and a lot of variations and fakes creep in. There is no such thing as a Calabrese Cannolo. The Cannoli are a Sicilian speciality. They are world reknown for it and what Mirella made was not a cannolo or cannoli (as in the plural). Even their english leaves much to be desired. "Over the top" basically means "exagerated".

One is intrigued with Erica and the allergy to Ricotta. Curious as to what the adverse effect is?
If I understand correctly, she's got an allergy to lactose, that causes digestive problems (bloating, diarrhea), but can cause other allergic reactions. When cheeses are being made, the whey (liquid) is discarded and the lactose goes with it. Soft cheeses, like ricotta and cottage cheese, undergo short straining processes, and less lactose gets removed as a result. That's why she's allergic to ricotta, but can eat other cheeses.
