    My 10 year old son plays piano and I would love for him to play this. He's always on UA-cam listening to music and playing by ear. He's gonna learn this for his pops!! Great video tutorial!!!!

      This is excellent news - given the video is as old as he is. Thank you for letting me know. If you make a video of his playing I'll be really happy to watch and give comments.

    @paulwwells: It seems that what you play at the beginning sounds a bit different from what you teach us.
    But it's still good, though. I mean, I'm not completely lost. I pretty much know how to play the song thanks to you.

    @FerrariCarr - thanks for letting me know; that gives me some idea. There are a few places where it deviates from my original video. If I was to play it again now I probably would come up with a different version. If you post a video reply I could easily tell you if any parts are different - you have most likely added your own interpretation as well.

  • @odestry

    hey thks for posting this. i will say good video, but a tad fast.but how i figured out to play it was by knowing which key this song was in. Its seem to be a mix of DFLAT/Bfalt. Im a novice who's learning the scales & also to other novices if we learn the scales of each key its makes playing a whole lot easier. thks

    Nice tutorial gonna do that song new years eve on our gig and just decided to see if I am on the right track and I am playing most of what you are playing the only difference is I used a few different inversions and a bit wider spread but and so mine sounds different from the original as you are showing, but good stuff keep them coming.

      This was the first tutorial I ever made and it is fairly rough I'll admit. The chords are natural keyboard chords - heavily extended and when you learn them you think "why aren't more songs structured this way?". I still think this song is like a jewel among songs.

    @olekike I haven't seen the sheet music version of this, so I cannot comment specifically, but generally I find sheet music is kept simple so as to be playable by the widest range of player abilities; however, sometimes it's too simple and lacks richness making the end result sound weak compared with the original.

    Very good. I do, however, need some help. I'm a little more advanced in chord knowledge. My confusion start when you break things done to individual notes. For instance, A flat in base and F sharp major 7th on the right make an A flat 13th chord.

  • @56dlp
    @56dlp 8 років тому

    I think you basically got it right but you're off a half step on the whole thing. That first chord is really B Maj 7. Play the B octave bass in the left hand with E flat min 7 in the right. Next chord is G Maj 7. Then, the verse is in D Major.

    • @56dlp
      @56dlp 8 років тому

      I see what happened. The video of the song I was listening to wasn't actually recorded correctly. The pitch is set a half step higher than the original recording. I've been listening to it wrong this whole time. Your chords are correct sir.

    Quick question, Since one day I want to play like Paul Wells. I'm a beginner looking to buy a digital piano up to maybe $500 or so, if you could recommend any that might be perfect for me. I was looking at the Casio Privia 130, Yamaha NP30 and a Korg SP250, school me please, Thanks in advance.

    how would you play this for a keyboard thats limited to 61 keys?? just take out the Bottom octave i assume?!?!?!?

    • @paulwwells
      @paulwwells  4 роки тому +1

      Hi DJ. I used to have a five octave keyboard. By default five octave keyboards cut approximately one octave from the bottom and two octaves from the top. I cannot live without the bottom octave so I always transposed everything down one octave and cut out the higher parts of the song which tend to just be decoration anyway. For example, in the introduction I would play the repeats on the same octave without going up an octave, and it would probably sound fine.
