You probably don't care for a rock crawler, but I learned the hard way that all those grinding sparks like to get embedded into the windshield and it's a pain to get them out. Wish I would have covered it with something before I fixed the floors. I'm loving the progress so far, this thing is going to look fantastic.
Can't wait to see the finished product, it's pretty cool seeing the progress in each video even if it is still just mostly cutting things away right now. I was wondering one thing though, why you didn't go with a 2 door XJ for this project.. With out the rear doors there, a lot more of the rear end could be cut farther forward and angled more? Still going to be a badass Jeep for sure though.
Food for thought: if you're worried about your camera getting sparks on it from the grinder then you might consider using a sacrificial shield like a piece of plexiglass or a cheapo grinding mask from harbor freight similar to the one you're using.
While your cutting up that crawler, you should make a sunroof. Just cut out a rectangle add some reinforcements and use a tonneau cover to close it up when your not using it!
I think it would have been cool if the back would have been cut in a way that you could still have the pillars . but im excited to see what you do to attach the roof to the back... should be cool!!!
do you have any videos on repainting the plastics inside the jeeps? I'm looking to paint my dash and center console. Nd I'd like to see videos before I break something taking it out
I only see two temporary stiffeners in the back there. Did you have any noticeable sag or deformity? I was assuming I would have to make almost a complete temp cage to keep it from folding. I am only taking the top off essentially. What are your thoughts?
Might wanna wear earplugs when angle grinding sheetmetal (or really anything) if you would still like to be able to hear by the time you're 50. Otherwise, nice video.
So what convinced you to do a modified unibody? Right now I have the a similar jeep already striped down to the same level. Why not just put a frame under it? For me I am planning 2x4 steel for a frame, full 4 link. I understand that's its a crawler but why not just do a proper chassis? Is there something I am missing?
Looking back, would it have been better to just build a tube frame crawler? This is a sweet project, but thats a lot of work on a Cherokee for a final product that is a Cherokee no more... Keep going now, but if you do it again?
+BleepinJeep Hey its just an honest question. Would you or would you not do it the same way again with your final project meeting the same purposes? This isn't meant to be a dig at your efforts in any way, I like it, but I wonder if you still think it is worth it. My username is a conglomeration of XJ (what I drive) and Superman (college nickname). They don't actually go together, sorry.
+BleepinJeep Ok, sounds like a deal. In the meantime, Ill keep watching. Last question, or maybe its more of a request: Can you show a brief image or clip of what it looks like while you are filming? A camera behind the camera kind of thing. Id like to get a better idea on how you get such good angles where we can see what you are working on. I find myself struggling with this when I attempt a video of any type. Thanks for the replies.
Imo it would have been a lot less fab work obviously to just do a wrangler. No? Solid frame, body that is easily modified and a pretty good starting point already. Your already doing axle work to make those indestructible, do very well made suspensions anyways, why an xj? I love xj's and know you can get them for 400 on up and are indestructible after mods are done but I don't see it man.
I keep getting this question over and over and it's an honest question. The only answer I have is that I'm using an xj because I want to, it's my build and I can do what I want. I don't want to go the cheap route or the easy route, I just want to build a badass xj buggy like no one has ever seen before. Maybe it's kinda like that guy who mods a pinto into a funny car...why? Why not?
I would love to do something like that and then approach the guys at ITV (the guys that homologate changes in a vehicle here) and hear what they think :D Sadly, no important structural changes are allowed where I live :(

Thanks! Ya I didn't really consider it but luckily, or maybe unluckily the windshield is cracked and getting replaced anyway.
this rig is getting better and better. I can only imagine what your next build will be
I enjoy the footage of the rain on the trees.
Videos just keep getting better. The shadow line trick was sweet.
+syzfilms thanks
The fire and your wife laughing really makes this video the best! I love it!
I can't wait to see this thing in action. The sky is the limit. I think you should try and get on the ultimate adventure!!!
+zachary vizgaudis That would be awesome! :-)
The music isnt a bad touch. not cheesy at all. thumbs up!
glad to see I'm not the only one who struggles with leaf spring bushings...
I think that may be the first time I've seen someone put a fire out with a hammer haha.
+Ebenezer Switch Clarkson approved!
I can't wait to see the finished product
Love watching you work man
Shadow trick! 👍👍
I'll have to remember that one.
Thanks Bleepy
Craziness!! Looking forward to seeing the end result.
The best part was your wife laughing at you. Also, I like the ambiance shots outside.

A video without music and you talking! Great video. Thumbs up for this one :)
That jeep has amazing floor boards
I like to pay a little more for rust free.
I just bought that grinder and I love it!!
I like the shadow line tip!
Food for thought: if you're worried about your camera getting sparks on it from the grinder then you might consider using a sacrificial shield like a piece of plexiglass or a cheapo grinding mask from harbor freight similar to the one you're using.
+ThePizzaGuy1396 If he has a remote mic he could also turn an old aquarium upside down, over the camera.

love the intro video Matt
Ok that shadow line marking was pretty smart.
Awesome Matt. Keep it up. I love it.

Try using old speaker magnets to hold up the 4" lamp...
Sparks, flames, flammables on the shelf. Have you considered a fire safe for all of your flammables? I'd hate to see the entire shop go up in flames.
Builds going awesome, although it does hurt my heart to watch you cut up that cherokee haha 😉
Better than all the tv shows using them for crash cars
+BleepinJeep You have a solid point there fella
It looks like you are in need of a &' grinder with cutting discs for some of those cuts.
do you have any videos on repainting the plastics inside the jeeps? I'm looking to paint my dash and center console. Nd I'd like to see videos before I break something taking it out
With all this work you're doing, I REALLY hope that a Rough Junk kit isn't going in it for your suspension.
please do a tailgate hatch, that would look cool
5:28 throw away that windshield now.
It's cracked
Love your videos. Although you should try a different store than toys'r'us when buying tools.
Don't forget to protect your glass from sparks, unless you want pitted windows.
That is a wicked sweet rig you are building yourself there Matt!
+Jimmy T thanks
Sparks getting into your hair are fun... Ive gotten into the habit of wearing an old hat backwards when I grind/weld.
I went and bought a welding cap
+BleepinJeep Thats a smarter idea... but I all I use is a little 110v welder... so Im no professional haha
Great video.
you don't have to buy a compressor, you just have to make your A/C pump into a air compressor and put in a tank some where.
I only see two temporary stiffeners in the back there. Did you have any noticeable sag or deformity? I was assuming I would have to make almost a complete temp cage to keep it from folding. I am only taking the top off essentially. What are your thoughts?
Anything to just temporarily support the rear. It won't fold.
@@bleepinjeep thanks!

+nathan harland I dont want a jeep that is 18 feet tall
+BleepinJeep I mean like cut all of the unibody out an just make it the same width as before and burn it into the body
very very interesting loved it
His awkwardness brings me life.
can i have the rockers that you cut out?
Put some cardboard over your windshield. Sparks will melt specks into the glass if you don't cover it.
It's cracked
Just say no to crack.
Me too. I messed up a very expensive windshield once.
Great build, but at this point why don't you just build a tube chassis? Seems like it would be less work, stronger, and more effective offroad.
+DogEatDogue Apparently I dont like easy
Very cool.
Looking back, would it have been better to just build a tube frame crawler? This is a sweet project, but thats a lot of work on a Cherokee for a final product that is a Cherokee no more... Keep going now, but if you do it again?
+XJSuperman I can't believe this is coming from someone who calls himself the XJsuperman... sacrilege;)
+BleepinJeep Hey its just an honest question. Would you or would you not do it the same way again with your final project meeting the same purposes? This isn't meant to be a dig at your efforts in any way, I like it, but I wonder if you still think it is worth it.

+XJSuperman This has been my dream rig for a long time coming... soo, ask me again when I get it on the trail and I'll be able to tell you for sure.
+BleepinJeep Ok, sounds like a deal. In the meantime, Ill keep watching.

I'm still curious why you didn't just do all this to the old crawler
+toddbarksdale old crawler was falling apart
+BleepinJeep Good reason
Gonna be sweeeet
+Bleepinjeep real comment, my 4 year old said she really likes your blue flower shirt. She wants a pink one.
+Jiān 坚, Guō 郭 sorry, all ive got is blue flowers

If I buy a tshirt, do I get a free plasma cutter with it?
plasma cutter would be a lot faster and cheaper to cut all that with than an angle grinder
I'm confused as to what the finishing goal is here.
+Easton Bolin badassness
I would love to do something like that and then approach the guys at ITV (the guys that homologate changes in a vehicle here) and hear what they think :D

Why not cut it into a ute?
Now that would be cool
matt who's the girl
+austin bob - the wife i guess
