This is my bravest wild camp so far. Maybe not so brave to many people but to me it was a big step forwards in embracing a new found love of wild camping in my little van.
This video shows the journey up from Lancashire, through Moffatt, and on to the Grey Mare's Tail Nature Reserve where I walk up to the waterfall and spend the night wild camping in the parking area of the reserve.
I paid £3 parking fee for 24 hours and spoke with a ranger who was there who said parking there was completely fine. I was the only van there overnight and it was Halloween ... 👻
Please remember to leave no trace so that these stunning locations can remain open to enjoy overnight park ups for many years to come!

Hi, I’m Sue from Lancashire, UK.
This channel is just me getting out and about in a converted VW Campervan, occasionally with friends but mostly solo. Fun, laughs, moans, groans, mistakes, and successes. It’ll all be in here!
I’ll share new places, hints, tips, any info I discover and whatever else I think you might find useful.
I began vlogging my solo travels in ‘Vanya’, to help me re-engage with life following the sudden, tragic loss of my husband nearly 3 years ago now. Working through a very complex grief has been the hardest & loneliest challenge imaginable. Some days it still knocks me completely sideways and probably always will. I really don't know. All I do know is that life can change forever and irreversibly in an instant.
By returning to the vanlife we had enjoyed so much together & embracing a new found love of video creation and vlogging, I’m continuing to build strength and balance to move forward through this completely unforeseen and unwanted next chapter of life.

Yes when you come back to your spiritual home the Borders , you always excel and knock it out of the ball park. Just beautiful Sue. We went to that Smokey near Burg and the pub has closed down with it, what a disappointment. Those new ones are great Sue far better than the Jackery. Your hairs a nice colour it suits you.

Beautiful part of the world. The colours are fabulous this time of year. There is another Grey mares tail waterfalls walk west of Clatteringshaws loch. More falls to see. So many people drive past D&G heading more north, missing out. Look forward to watching your next episode. Safe travels

Hi Sue, that looked like a fabulous scenic drive out there and your knee still sounds painful but that looked amazing and so relaxing being parked up next to the beautiful 60m high waterfall and only having the company of sheep that leave gifts and a ghost for company in the van in Hallooooooween 🤭 ooo i loved the torch on face look !
Well done for going up high when you don't do heights because you got great footage and it seemed sooo windy. Loved that bridge.
That drone footage you eventually got of the mist on the mountains was stunning with the birds flying around it and then when you left that was a beautiful scenic drive along the A708 with the Loch on the right and some more sheep friends with gifts ?

Hi Sue, The Scottish borders are a real hidden gem I was up that way a few weeks ago staying in Peebles and are off next Monday to the Galloway Forest. For you power upgrade I can highly recommend speaking with Rob at Eco Tree Lithium at Awsworth Nottingham. They will advise you on what you need and wont rip you off. They have 5 star reviews on Trust Pilot and numerious UA-camrs have had work done by them.

I have not been able to fly there because of wind and rain. Flying is now next to impossible as the winter wind has settled in. Soon though LOL.

Stunning up there, quiet year for me with moving etc. Turned up at that melrose site late one night off the cuff a few years ago £34 squid🙄 unless your in the club

The Scottish Borders are a regular visit for us, beautiful area and generally few folk about, just how we like it. Always good to see it through someone else’s eyes 😊

Just catching up with you now we have some camp wifi - what a beautiful place we have travelled much of the highlands and isles but never been here , looks like a real spot on place to go , the colours wow. You do find great spots Sue but it does seem a little windy for the drone. 😂. Suicidal sheep get everywhere , great video thanks for sharing H and M.

Bargain over night fee there, and looks a stunning stop. The battery is our biggest issue, just got a new one, but could really do with another battery and more solar...we just don't have the space for it.

I should have mentioned. You said you were running low on power. I saw a UA-cam video where a lady needed power for her business on a narrowboat and she had tried one of the following. Jackery Portable Power Station Explorer 240. Seemed like a good idea from Amazon.

Hi sue great vlog as always, x. for the best battery bank depends what you want it to run check out eco flow river 2 its a 300 watt it’s their latest, or the bigger eco flow 2 about a 1000 watt these both use the latest lithium batteries and technology portable so can be used in and out of the van . This just popped up on my UA-cam homepage; which is nice, 'cos I grew up in and around Moffat.
Years ago, that path went closer to the waterfall and was carved into the rock face. Passing people coming the other way was fun if you weren't the one with your back to the wall. You had to squeeze past, your feet over the edge, pebbles clattering into the inky void below! 😬 Can't think why they closed it! 🙃
Lucky you growing up there. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there. I got sweaty palms reading about the path in the past though 😳😅

I have watched a few of your videos. I watch alot of vanlife videos. I want to do this, but I am concerned about being a solo female on her own. I am of the elder generation, so a bit apprehensive on the wild camping.
Hi Diane I can understand that. Im still building confidence myself. I haven’t actually done very many wild camps
and the ones I’ve done have all been in Scotland so far. I wasn’t actually expecting to be completely alone here either and it was pitch black no light at all. Once I’m parked up for the night I never wander around outside or show that I’m a female on her own. It could be anyone in the van. That’s why I don’t make it a ‘girlie’ looking van too 😊

Underrated part of Scotland often passed by, including by us, in the dash to the Highlands and Islands. The more gentle scenery is beautiful.
It does seem overlooked and yet an interesting area to explore. I think Autumn there really does it justice too. 👍🏻

It’s been a while since Iv’e been to the Borders. We used to take the in-laws to Moffat and Peebles. The colours of the landscapes are beautiful. What a place to spend your Halloween! That was hysterical! Take care Sue.....and Onwards!

Beautiful visit to the Grey Mare`s Tail. Lovely colours. The bracken is such a warm comfortable orangey brown. Even wet days can be so wonderful.

The path is quite narrow and exposed but great view and sound of the powerful waterfall. The morning conditions were quite damp through the mist but there was no way I was missing capturing that scene so I risked it and it paid off 🤞🏻😃. Take care both xx

What a lovely spot you found Sue, £3 for 24 hours! Loved the Blair Witch vibes, for someone that hasn’t seen it you pulled it off very well! What a very helpful and friendly ranger! Waking up alone except for 🐑 💩 present! That waterfall is a stunner, glad the wind died down as you got some cracking drone footage. Sigh, my biggest regret is loosing the M6, the lovely motorway that could whisk me away to lots of great places like Scotland in what seemed like no time at all! Thanks for putting the Borders on the map for us! Roll on your next vid ❤

@@CamperVanya you definitely have put the Borders on the map for us. Plus its a lot closer than attempting the Highlands from where we are. Growing up in Lancashire i used to alternate weekends in the Lakes with ones in Scotland thanks to that beautiful uncongested Motorway! Nowadays it takes me at least two hours to get to the A1 and thats often gridlocked! 🤬

1. Nancy in France (think it's in Lorraine district!) & 2. Sheila an old girl I used too work with made one, the highlight of any "Jacob's join"!

Soggy but thankfully they were mean with their portions. The ‘salad’ was lettuce that was still dripping wet and the potato wedges were undercooked and few. The coleslaw was acceptable though 🤣
