Keto Grocery Shopping With My 7 Year Old Son

  • In a recent video that I posted, I shared my experiences exploring a modern Tokyo supermarket while I was traveling, and I was amazed by the variety of ingredients and the cultural differences that I noticed.
    This video is very different. This is myself and my eldest son, Christian, shopping in our local supermarket. Christian loves the camera and this was spontaneously inspired by his wanting to be in a video and by the fact that people frequently ask me what kinds of products I buy when I shop, not just for myself but for my family, too. To tell you the truth, most of my produce comes from the farmers’ market every Saturday morning (a future video perhaps?). This is for a couple of reasons: firstly you can’t find fresher or higher quality produce than directly from the source, and secondly, I believe in supporting local organic farmers in my community.
    I would estimate that around 20% of the food in my home actually comes from a supermarket, but nonetheless there are certain items that of we naturally won’t find in a market and some that my son can’t get enough of (and he’ll tell you all about them himself in the video!), so we decided on the spur of the moment to get it on video and to give you an idea of the types of foods we typically gravitate towards when shopping in a grocery store.
    I absolutely love the fact that my son loves healthy foods. He was raised on quality foods and his body now naturally craves them. Although, to him they are just tasty foods, he isn’t aware this is a video on health and what to shop for; this is what he actually loves. Trying to get him to stop eating it before we’ve even checked out is another story and always challenging, but the boy has good taste, what can I say!
    So I hope you enjoy our little video adventure! And hopefully this will answer some questions about the kinds of foods that are Keto safe and provide some insight. When Christian isn’t trying to break the record of how many seaweed chips he can fit in his mouth at once, there is hopefully some valuable information in here :)
    Thanks as always for watching and let me know in the comments what you like to buy for yourselves and your families as part of your Keto lifestyle.
    Happy shopping, and see you on the next one ;)
    -Naomi

    Such a neat video! You’re son is so sweet and tender. I raised my children on health foods and they could go around Whole Foods (Wild Oats when they were Christians age) like your son. I truly enjoy your videos! I was a raw foodist for many years and love salads. I was helping caregive for a good friend of ours for 8 years who is a quadrilplegic after his wife passed away. Still help but not as much because of stress- I was doing so much. Anyhow, it caused my body to spiral and after years of not having eczema I’ve had the worst bout with it I’ve ever had and I’ve turned to Keto for about 1 1/2 years. I love to listen to you, Dr. Mercola , Dr. Axe, Dr. Jockers, Dr Berg and others. My body is responding better to Keto than the raw food diet that had helped many years before (Hallelujah Acres diet is mostly what I followed). Anyhow, I’m 51 and have passionately studied nutrition for 30 years and Keto has really challenged me on what is “healthy”. I’ve learned a lot from you and look forward to learning more. Wish I could meet you- you seem like an amazing woman, wife and mother and follow your passions.

    It is a great video. Does anyone know how she spends $350 per week on food for 6? My farmers market is expensive as well as grass fed meat and wild seafood. Any ideas how to save?

    Nice video Naomi. Loved meeting your cute son. I have three kids (one is just 3 months old conceived at age 41 after being keto for one year!). I’d love if you took us along to the farmers market to see what you shop for there. Also some videos on meals you serve for your family would be super informative. Thanks for sharing!

    Good video. But, are you sure you are only spending 350$/wk for a family of 6 people considering list of foods you are consuming?

  • @deborahrippe5641
    @deborahrippe5641 5 років тому +1

    I’ve got to say that I really really enjoyed this video. I struggle with how much money I should be spending to feed a family of 6 along with trying to eat local, trying to limit plastic, trying to eat organic and non- gmo and trying to eat eggs and meat that are treated properly and have lived a happy life. The fact that you spend 350$/week lines up with my spending. Our farmers market in Oxnard, CA doesn’t have any organic stands which is super disappointing and I like to eat only organic so that even if it doesn’t affect the fruits or vegetables in a negative way, say a banana for instance, I want to support organic farming as much as possible. My family eats non keto and that is another place I struggle as I give them bagels and bread and I know that isn’t super healthy but I’m not sure as growing children who are very active in sports, how much I should be limiting their carb intake. If I tried to give them sweet potatoes or squash all of the time instead of pasta, I think they might revolt. BTW I am at my high school weight again so not really interested in losing weight but want the benefits of eating super healthy and want autophagy now, since I’m 48 yrs.
