Yes to more vlog style videos. Recently ordered a 30watt co2 galvo from cloudray, with an upgraded 8x beam expander and 20mm galvo head (for better detail engravings), and a lens for 300x300 engraving, and an 800mm lift arm. I think that i have mentioned it in a previous comment, on another video, but I would also love to see some videos on how you were able to get your family on board (helping with the business). I have been trying for several years and have had no luck. Right now, it is basically a glorified hobby, despite all of my expensive toys in the garage. My hope is to be a full time job with it within the next 7 years.
Fellow maker Matt here, i have a fiber and think i may get a galvo co2 next. I love how compact this is compared to my fiber with the big power supply box, plus no huge trunked cable out the back.
Discovered your channel s few days ago while looking into embroidery machines. I probably never Will buy a laser nor an embroidery machine, i just like watching the videos. A creator doing a recording of him working and commenting as he goes is my favourite. The thought process, the fails, the wins, the struggles, the good result at the end.. i like it
Thanks for the Galvo co2 content. I am leaning towards this for marking nylon fabrics for my custom gear. Currently cutting and marking with a 60watt gantry, which is good for cutting but slow for marking.
Any content is great to see, been watching since the beginning :) good to see you again bud. The 4x mentioned / referred to is the beam expander in the machine between the laser source and the laser head. You can’t really use any size expander without having other matching equipment or you may end up with some issues/unintended effects. It takes the beam from the source (the physical beam size can vary from source to source, but lets say 1.8mm +/- .2) and multiplies it’s size, before going into the mirrors in the head. If those mirrors aren’t large enough, you lose power and will heat up/potentially damage the head components, and would also not give you the full power at the material. Going smaller on expander than the other components can handle isn’t really ideal either. That looks to be a 10mm head (in reference to the size of mirrors in the head), they make larger ones like 20mm which can carry a larger beam (so a bigger expander would be great for that bigger size head). The other factor is lens compatibility. Something you don’t often see with UV and fiber lenses as being a problem is the input aperture of the lens (how big of a hole there in the back of the lens to accept a beam). Co2 galvo lenses come with a lot of input sizes (and match up to various expander/head sizes) where you can use a bigger aperture on a smaller beam, but using a smaller aperture on a bigger beam means you are literally giving a big beam a small hole to fit through and drowning out the edges like a cookie cutter slicing off the edges that don’t fit through. This can eventually cause lens damage from heat if you’re blocking part of the beam, but the other thing it does is cut your power output at the material down because of not receiving full beam through the lens. The idea/theory behind the bigger beam/expander/head is that when pumping a beam into a focusing lens, the bigger the input beam, the smaller the dot size when in focus, and therefor capable of a potentially smaller dot size for detailed work. I’m not bashing 10mm heads either, It doesn’t make the 10mm head setup bad (and other supporting parts for that matter), it just depends on your needs as an engraver and what type of work you’re doing. It may be wasted upgrade cost if you don’t need to move up in expander/head/lens aperture sizing. Idk the actual dpi capability difference, but I’d love to get the output of the 10mm head under a microscope to compare with my 20mm head+8x expander with same size lens to see how much that really means as a tough comparison. That also leads into bigger lens = bigger dot at focus, but another cool thing about co2 galvo lenses is that they have multi element lenses (think compound lenses for gantry, kinda) which can actually give you the ability to reduce your dot size. That’s a whole different thing and an even longer explanation, so I won’t bore anyone further with that lol.
You are responsible for my success with glass…I probably watched 2 dozen vids trying to get it right and you brought it home. Kinda miss those how to’s, as well as Sara’s insights.
Looks like a great machine. Wish I had the work to support something like that but I would almost rather have the Thunder you have. Enjoy your videos however you decide to do them. Keep it up
Does it have a rotary attachment for tumblers? Also, even though it’s fast, for large batch orders (like the wood postcards or something), would you still go with a larger laser to save time needing to constantly switch out product? Thanks for your vids! Love them!
Now that you have the Co2 Galvo, the fiber and the UV, if you already had a Co2 laser which one would you purchase next to expand you business? I'm I'm just getting ready to retire and I'm going to use a small laser business to supplement my retirement.
When I saw the placard 0:35 in, I noticed the frequency to be that of a fiber, not a co2.. kind of threw me... Went to the site, it was correct there - 10600nm or ten times that of a fiber...
Tumblers and cutting boards will be killer on that machine. I love wood on the UV but it’s sloooooooow. Bigger dot size on the CO2 galvo makes is lightning quick
hello. your channel is very informative and educational. i noticed that you only sell a few products on etsy. does that mean that your real business is to make money through affiliate and youtube memberships? i ask because i want to understand if it is even possible to make money with a laser and selling products. Thank you.
I do my laser engraving business full-time UA-cam doesn’t make me much money off of Phil or UA-cam itself. I don’t put my website on here because I have too many people that click it and don’t buy anything and then Google pushes it to the bottom of the search.
I've heard you say in a few videos that you bid on jobs. As a small laser business myself I would love to be able to do something like this. Is there any way you can share how you do this? Thank you for your help, I love watching your videos and seeing your success. Alex One59 Customs LLC
Thanks Matt, been looking forward to this video! I was thinking the same exact thing, id love to find a site like that to get me to the next level. I think im gonna buy this laser. Keep up any video, they are all interesting!!

😆 this is what I have been talking to the company about
Love the OG vlog style videos, or anything you find interesting, always learning something new. If you want a 3D jig file, happy to help too.
Email me so we can figure something out if you want
I'm down for any video, I love seeing what you post.
I have about 500 or so of those black bottle openers. They behave a lot like powder coating. I like them and just sold a bunch for a wedding in Oct.
I now have 2 kinds and the new ones are powder coated and are very nice 😃
@@laserengravingwithmatt sadly no CO2 galvo *yet* so the fiber and 300mm lens will have to suffice.
Blog style will be ok in between - At least we get to see you again ;)

I really like Ur videos when ur showing how to use the laser to do different things and talking to us while it happening
Vlog is good! Miss having your company while I laser my own stuff!
😃
Looks like a great machine. Wish I had the work to support something like that but I would almost rather have the Thunder you have. Enjoy your videos however you decide to do them. Keep it up

Yes it does. I find switching remote is still faster than doing big batches.
It’s a good idea Matt!
Thanks! This is only video on commaker c02. I was thinking of getting it for my glassware. Does it do it? Tahnks!
It should do glass but I haven’t tried it yet. I use a UV to do all my glasses
Looks like an awesome laser. The sublimation coating is polyester. So how well does it laser metal ? How big is its laser area
I haven’t tried using metal spray yet and the size is 110mm
Now that you have the Co2 Galvo, the fiber and the UV, if you already had a Co2 laser which one would you purchase next to expand you business? I'm I'm just getting ready to retire and I'm going to use a small laser business to supplement my retirement.
That all depends Do you do a lot of glass or do you do more metal?
Hi there! Would you say this has enough power to engrave a pistol slide?
I would rather use fiber for that
When I saw the placard 0:35 in, I noticed the frequency to be that of a fiber, not a co2.. kind of threw me... Went to the site, it was correct there - 10600nm or ten times that of a fiber...
I wanna see more videos of you and also tips to get jobs and put in bids that's where I'm struggling with right now
Keep trying 😃
I clicked your link for com marker. I'm going to make a purchase.
Thanks 😃
Not sure if this was said but this bottle openers are not for sublimation because sublimation has to be white.
Vlog style!!
So the bottle opener is paint? I thought they were anodized. I tried the anodized business cards in our P2 and it didn't work well at all.
What anodized business cards are awesome in the p2
@@laserengravingwithmatt not for me. Lol. I just need to do some testing. I haven't had time
If you could choose 1 fiber laser which one would it be? I already have a Thunder...thanks buddy!
I like the one I have but it’s the only one I have.
Thanks bud!!@@laserengravingwithmatt

You didn’t link the laser in the description. You linked the embroidery machine at the top.
Yes, I didn't see it either.

No matter what kind of video you do, I'm all in. Question, what type of companies are buying your engraved drinkware?
Jds, rtic, yeti
Matt, what I was asking is what types of companies are "buying" your drinkware that you would invest the cost of a Co2 galvo
A lot of different businesses buy from us for promotional items
sheeeesh, another free equipment sponsored vid....
Tell us you're jealous without telling us you're jealous.... Go find positive and be that, elsewhere.
