  • There is so much more to fly fishing than just catching trout. The environment where trout live is a fascinating place, and many anglers miss so much of the natural world's wonder when they just focus on just the trout. One important player in this natural environment is the aquatic insect - and that is what this video series will be all about! In each video, we'll explore the science behind the hatches that we know and love as fly anglers and how that can help translate into us bringing more trout to the net. And who knows, maybe after this video series you may have a new appreciation for the aquatic insects of the natural world or maybe just reinforce those feelings of wonder!

    First, Thank you for this topic of a series. Not only because of the love of fly fishing but also because I'm a Pennsylvania fly fisher. I truly enjoy watching your videos became a lot of them touch a special place in me. I love fishing the same streams of Central Pa. and it adds a next level of enjoyment when I see a favorite stream you're on. Can't wait to continue watching this series!!

      Thanks for commenting! We say it all the time but we're so blessed to have the waters that we do in PA. Some of the best fly fishing in the US

    I have been waiting for a course like you propose for 50 years. I've been subscribed to your channel for a little over a year. I fish just west of where you do. Allegheny river drainage. I'd like to learn what entomology is in my area and how to match it. Thanks.

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  4 роки тому

      We noticed there werent many entomology videos on UA-cam so trying to fill that niche! It's going to be a learning experience for us too as we do research for each video and employ various tactics. We are hoping to fish over your way this spring. We have heard there is some decent fishing to be had on the Allegheny..
      Best of the hatches,
      Dan

    I don't really ever try to match the hatch (other than hoppers) but I am looking forward to this series. Keep up the great work.

      Thanks, Pat! We are really excited about this series as well. Already learned so much just through researching the hatches we want to do videos on. Currently working on a grannom video so hopefully the water levels subside a bit and it warms up!

    Love your videos! Especially enjoy seeing familiar water and learning. Saw your cabin last weekend. Ends up that I am just upstream from you at Camp It's About Time. Less than a mile away. Hopefully see you sometime on the great water we have in the KCW.

    Looks like a great video series. Sadly, the background music drowned out most of the vocal so it was difficult to listen to.

    Why can't a mop fly represent a caddis larvae at least somewhat? The small trout magnet lure could have the same argument as well. Lets try to get on the water together this year. Tightlines!

    Never better than to see a Backyard Angling video uploaded. I will say the bug life is definitely a weakness of mine. I bet GD has taught you a couple things along the way. Super jealous you have had the chance to sit in on that class. Thanks for sharing this series, and can't wait to learn from you. Tight lines guys!

      Should have some good stuff in this video series! Learned a lot from our dad, GD, and the previous Penn State flyfishing club adviser Greg Hoover! Mr. Hoover is a professional entomologist and taught me a lot! Hope you enjoy the future videos! We really appreciate the support!!!
