I personally find the contrast that is created by the strong colours of the clothing, garden, wings, crown, and golden halos and the alabaster-pale skin most striking.
I can't imagine how impressive this would have looked when it first was painted. The gold, green, red, yellow and blue must have shone vividly unlike anything else.
Excellent video as always and thank you! The tools for analysis were a great idea.

Great video Dr.Zucker and Dr.Harris, and thank you for the elaborate explanation aswell as for the tools to describe a painting.I would also like to add that the depiction of material wealth is shown in the colour blue also. When this painting was made colours couldnt have been made synthetically, meaning chemicaly in a factory by humans,so the other option was to get the colour from nature.Since,in nature there aren’t many sources of the colour blue it was very expensive to get it.This is the reason why only the most important painting and events in this paintings had the colour blue.

Yes that's true! I think it was called ultramarine or lapis lazuli, I'm not sure if they are the same kinds or two different types of blue

It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to gush about a chubby bb jzus, look at him, lol. 🥰
I love the combination of the intricate details and soft, smooth, skin / features - it’s all so lovely to see at once.
The tools for analysis were great too. It reminds me of my start watching your videos and how I learned to think more critically about art along the way. Couldn’t have done it without you guys. ❤

Love that you both commonly narrate in-situ, voices subdued out of reverence for where you might be and what you are describing us.
I noticed time's entropy on this painting, so I found a highish res image of this (from Wiki) and used Gigapixel AI (there's a free "trial" version I use of this) to do it's magic and render out some of time's exigencies from the image. Many of the cracks disappeared and it did what it could to send this image back to some of it's bloom of youth, if you like. It kind of worked! But the original will always be Queen🎨💙

      @barrymoore4470 Рік тому +1

I myself find those exigencies of time beautiful, the cracks adding to the texture and patterns of the picture (though, of course, they are not original to the image's conception and execution).

@@smarthistory-art-history Learning is an everlasting frontier, and happiness isn’t the point of life - been thinking about Cezanne and his country, unstudied manner, the dark cloud that he sailed with throughout his life, and how Native Americans need an artist like that. Haven’t changed much, except I now know that adults are just big children, so me focusing on catching art ideas all day isn’t as impossible as it seemed 10 years ago. It’s sad knowing that education is free, but so many other poor people never think differently enough to take advantage and become dope. That’s about it lmao

    Buenas tardes.
    Mil gracias.
Espero que no tomen a mal mi pedido.
    Saludos cordiales desde Buenos Aires.

Thank you for your thoughtful note. We would love to offer more translated transcriptions. Unfortunately, as a small non-profit, we have not yet been able to raise the funds to support this project. Hopefully we will be able to do that someday. Many of the translations you see were made by volunteers before UA-cam removed their community translation software. That was a sad day.

    My poetic interpretation:
[Hereforth cometh hither the divine heavenly paradise to be regainth]
[Cometh we angels to unseal this veil of temple gate of Eden]
"Mayth ye my son & thy borrowth mother be blessed by my Dove"
"I, Dove, the sign of pure & peace to thee"
(How I mere now bare more of a son to be giventh?)
(Hadth not these flowery leaves I growth from branches vine's mine empty?)
(Yet here the angels offerth fruits of life from barren wounded earth)
[Hail thee the crownth glory woman of this Lord Son!]
[See nowth the known King of all Kings hadth shalt begone the satanic's 3 temptations]
"I, the Son of my Father & the Wings of Dove, borrowth this female's womb"
"I who triumph evil, thus the angels cometh to deliver fruits of life"
"I too as the unicorn whom on lap, rise from death"
"Sing a new hymne, sons of God!"
"Haste a choral beautitude of resonance of gloria's magnificat!"
[Sing to Lord O donors of this art!]
[Sing ye who hadth seen our visions of longing]
(Cometh whenceforth but now children out of frame!)
Cometh ye art all believers, the kingdom hadth cometh
