    I'm feeling all inspired, I'm going to stop your video and finish it, laiter. I have my own cupboard of half built models to finish.

      Thank you George. There's lots more to come, although I doubt I'll film all of them as it takes me 4 times longer to get them built. :)

    An interesting video, James, although I'm not so sure about the music! I'm just starting out on my journey to make brass and white metal kits and so try and watch as many as I can to learn a few tips, especially from experts like yourself, of course having the proper kit helps! If only it were possible to pick up kits for £6.75, then I could make more mistakes than I do now!. A few more videos like this, please.

      Thank you Lawrence, and sorry about the music - any requests for next time?
      For the avoidance of doubt, I'm no expert! There will certainly be more videos like this one. As mentioned in the video, I'm currently working through my stash of kits and can't decide between a Branchlines SE&CR passenger brake van or a Chatham Kits Goods brake van for the next kit build video. Would you have a preference between the those two?
      Thanks for watching,
      James

      @BexhillWest Good morning, James. Either one of the kits would be ideal to a novice like me. Also, I haven't looked in the more tab yet, but I'm hoping that not only does it list the tools used, but where they can be purchased from. I've a few basic ones, but if I decide that this is the way to go, then obviously, I will need to upgrade them, although that is a cost in itself!!. P.s. the music was fine, especially with the sound off!!, only joking.

    I built one of these kits but i decided i wanted to model it after the SE&CR had rebuilt it with double doors in each side. That involved a bit of scratchbuilding in brass but was worth it. I look forward to seeng yous painted. Will you be doing a teak finish?

    Thank you James, may I first wish you a very happy, healthy and peaceful New Year. I always look forward to you wonderful Videos, this for me one your best and I loved the Music especially the Mozart, makes such a nice change. What was the Folding Instrument that you used and the Resistance Soldering Unit please.

    • @BexhillWest
      @BexhillWest  19 годин тому

      Thank you Peter, and a happy New Year to you too. The Folding tool is a Piranah folder by RP Toolz. I prefer it over others as it's made of steel rather than aluminium and very robust. Pricey and not essential, but nice to have for all manner of holding and folding jobs. The resistance soldering unit is from London Road Models, again not a cheap purchase. I have two, both purchased second-hand, but even then prices are not short of a new unit which indicates how sought-after and useful they are. I wouldn't be without one now. My soldering iron on the other hand is probably the cheapest one available and it seems to work brilliantly.

    Wonderful and infuriating at the same time. How were the end bulkheads folded? How was the roof radiused and located? Couplings, painting?

    • @BexhillWest
      @BexhillWest  День тому +1

      Thanks for watching Rick. The ends were folded using the same hold-and-fold tool, although I couldn't complete a full 90 degree bend on the tool, so I finished off by hand. The half-etched fold lines were so crisp that I could have folded the bends completely by hand. The folding tool is nice, but certainly not essential.
      The roof was radiused with a set of bending rolls. I hadn't realised that I didn't get footage of that. The couplings will be fitted after painting which will be done later as per the video description.
      All the best,
      James

  • @oesypum
    @oesypum День тому

    Either put the roof on last, so you can rest the body on its sides, or make a cradle to accommodate the arc of the roof, you don't need one for every arc. A simple shallow 'V' will suffice. I also saw no brace assembled between the sides, and did you place some suitable weight inside the body?

    • @BexhillWest
      @BexhillWest  День тому +1

      Thanks for your suggestions. I didn't add bracing as it didn't need it, the folded tabs on the top of the sides are enough to make the assembly stiff. Yes, I did add weight to bring it up to 60g total, which will be perfect for my purposes.
      Thanks for watching,
      James

    A few weeks ago I planned to start doing watch repairs. But, after butchering my first pocket watch, I've decided against it. This looks a bit more approachable, in that the parts are bigger.

    • @BexhillWest
      @BexhillWest  19 годин тому +1

      This was a very simple kit to put together. I wasn't too keen on the brakes - and I may re-make them from scratch to improve it a little. But yes, very approachable and could all be done with a cheap soldering iron and very little more. I used some fancier tools only because I have them, the result would have been the same doing everything by hand.
      Thanks for watching,
      James
