Jimmy i got the first two tapes and rest in piece sports boy in the mail today.and vcr's greatest hits will be here in a couple days. Thanks a lot for all the music
Haha...I love the "ever-so-slightly-bruised" melodies mention! This tape seems like something that--if it were sent around to major record labels as a bedroom-recorded demo 30 years ago--might strike some svengali-type producer to dream of all the possibilities for these songs to become some kinda missing link between early U2 and the more paisley-underground-inspired indulgences of Prince or something (or like an American answer to Talk Talk), and endless licensing deals to create the perfect backdrop of scenes of John Hughes' teen movies. You could really go to town imagining the ways the songs on this tape could be "improved" in terms of mainstream accessibility, but that is because some serious pop ingenuity and cleverness are exceedingly evident here. But, of course, we like it raw and personal, so this is perfect as-is. It's fun on a casual listen, but more engaging on repeated listens. More sticking power than I expected at first.
Played a show with this group of super talented people like a month ago now and I have to say that it was even better than this recording. The Indiana scene has quite a few gems these days and MANIAC is at the top of the list.
Yeah, Kyle! What if this guy was a cancer researcher who was getting discouraged by disappointing results, but then being the first to view, like, and comment gave him what he needed to make a breakthrough??? Who's gonna save your cancer-stricken loved ones now, Kyle??!?! And you'll just hafta live with the fact that your negativity killed something that could save so many people. Best of luck facing that reality!!!!!!
