    I looked at several Can Bus videos to send to a client and of all the videos on UA-cam, this one makes it the clearest. Thank you - your explanation was great.

    This was a great introduction! Good analogies for those unfamiliar with this potentially exciting, or exasperating, depending on what you're doing - communications technology.

      We miss him too, he's a good bastard. He's hoping to do some more course material with us a bit more on the regular again where he CAN (dun, dun psh!) too for you guys.
      The long-awaited PDM course is in the works again with Zac for example - Taz.

    I hate to say it, but the involvement of sws and can bus systems in the modern vehicle spelled the end for the diy car modder. And sure on paper it makes sense, and is meant to be simpler, smaller and more cost effective, but look under the dash of any modern car and theres wiring "everywhere"! Ill stick to a 90's style one wire for every function type deal, it always seems simpler and added benefit, anyone can work on it.
    Its hard to change...I know i need to get with the times. Cheers for the great content.

    • @hpa101
      @hpa101  3 роки тому +1

      Like anything, it's simple once you know it 😂 The beauty of doing your own project though is that you can do it however you like so there is nothing wrong with what you're up to there either though Brad so nothing to really stress about too much until there is a specific need to it differently, if ever - Taz.

    What is can bus? I think people smoke it in glass pipes.

    I am interested in the class, but I would like to use an Arduino-Can adapter to get data to my arduino for display and dissection. Does your class better clarify the programming and how to understand raw data of CAN systems, or is it geared towards using a proprietary software to interpret that data.

      Great question

    • @Kj16V
      @Kj16V 3 роки тому +2

      Same. I want to learn how to "sniff" out CAN signals in different vehicles and manipulate them. CANbus is such an obstacle when considering engine swaps or large modifications.

      You might save some money using an arduino for working out the data on a CAN bus, but you certainly won't save time. You're better to uae a dedicated CAN tool. There are many on the market with a wide price range.

      G'day Christian. Absolutely, the course teaches you about the protocol from a really low level, and will be excellent for getting you up to speed. While we can't offer any help with the Arduino coding, you'll learn all about the CAN protocol and will be able to understand the documentation of whatever libraries you end up using much easier. One of my larger projects at Uni was interfacing an STM32 uc to automotiva CAN streams, and I really wish there had been something like this course when I was starting out, would have saved me a lot of time! Hope that helps - Zac.

    So at its bare minimum, its overall purpose, is similar to how dmx cables changed the lighting industry but for cars? More data received/sent through a single or less wires?

  • @paulsapper

    What about a shield for the can bus, also what about the two terminal resistors

  • @andygomez3561

    Not to be ULTRA anal, but the CAN protocol or any other similar protocol can be more closely compared to as grammar or rules of communication. The language comparison would more closely be analogized with say using either hex or binary to relay raw information and to deliver that information, you would need a protocol because of the TX/RX properties you’d want in a bus.

    Why don't they standardize CANbus?

    • @dataminetk
      @dataminetk 3 роки тому +3

      It is standardised - a basic level of info is all there in the same places all the time, however, manufacturers both OEM and aftermarket, can add whatever they want to it. meaning the more specialised data is either not there, or there in different places between makers.

    • @sporkybutterz
      @sporkybutterz 3 роки тому

      @@dataminetk That defeats the purpose of standardization. I get adding feature sets but its like Teslas charging port vs Nissan and other manufacturers.

    • @dataminetk
      @dataminetk 3 роки тому +1

      @@sporkybutterz the situation would be much worse if CAN wasn't extensible as then every maker would have a new system to control your air con. Or entertainment. Or at an even more absurd level. Imagine if makers couldn't add something that is engine related but not around when OBD2 was standardised. Say flex fuel, or direct injection, now you have extra buses to run the engine.
      Having to decode some unknowns on the CAN is much better than the alternative where either CAN didn't exist or was not extensible.
