I have been a retired tech for over 8 years. I have over 35 years of experience .I do believe I have learned more at watching your videos about can networks that all the training that I have over the years. Thanks for your knowledge charing
I was a Chrysler tech in the 90's when they had the CCD bus system before CAN bus came out. I remember when more and more systems went to CAN bus communications. Chrysler had the best diagnostic scan tools beginning with the DRB2 then the DRB3
Great diagnostic, Jake! Effective process of elimination and a no parts required solution. Actually, 2 fuses required, but not for the original problem. Very interesting video.
Great fix. Had a 2018 Wrangler with a similar issue the other day. When I say the other day, I mean techs had been trying to find it for months as it was an intermittent stall no com. The real problem was the owner had all kinds of stupid aftermarket stuff wired inside with the disassembly for install causing damage to connector pins.
Thanks for bringing us along Jake. It's fun watching you ultimate techs solve the mystery. It would take me weeks and I still probably wouldn't find it.
Excellent find as usual. Great video 👊🏻👍🏻 I had seen damage to wires under the seat. Because people thru their empty water bottles under seat and when another driver moved seat it cracked connector and plastic seat extension bar . That bar breaking was the only reason I found it .
Great video! Thank you! I am about to dig into a similar problem in my 2015 Ram 3500. My Centre stack switch bank has not worked since I got the truck, and I am now having problems with my radio and blower motor. I appreciate a quick tour of the star connectors before I dive in. I am MUCH more equipped to navigate what exactly I am looking for now. Awesome!
jake going to mimic what most if not all these guys are saying.im super intrigued about network issues.love all the content related to them.getting more comfortable about diagnosing them because of the knowledge and experience that you exibit through these videos.love them keep them coming.really love the 22 camry videos especially.would love to know how you got access to that info for the "black box" data.
Very nice diagnostic work, Jake. I presume you are using your TopDon Pheonix Smart? Any recommendation for a more cost effective scan tool for part time DIY diagnostician - something in the $700 range? thanks.
oh yes merc use the same little can piggy back blocks . absolutely awesome . makes diagnosing can much easier than the normal agro of either unplugging modules or jumping terminal blocks 👍👍 . actually used my scope this week pwn heater circuit 👌👌👌 worked a treat to determine one of tge mosfets had gone belly up in the controls .i did think of you as i was using it , thinking jake would be proud of me , pulling myself out of the dark ages and using a bit of tech . not my $2.00 test light and some bulbs on some ropy looking wires i have made 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice detective work. But could we call this Loose Connectór factory Mistake? Or someone Has previously been there ? Anyways, customer's satisfaction is your priority!. Green Fix🤞🏻💯❣️
I honestly don’t know. I can say the connection was clipped in correctly and didn’t seem like it was ever pulled loose but the doesn’t mean much. The fact that it locked back in leads me to think it was never locked to begin with.
Topdon label for CAN C (H)igher speed and CAN A or B (L)ower speed. I know time is an issue but it would have been nice to see what codes were set in ALL the dead modules when they came back online. THIS is trivial but might have helped you out, there are YT Channels that show PICS of fuse and relay centers with all items installed, for your own library and a view in the video to share here on your Channel and future videos, a quick view of what is believed to be a fully populated fuse box and/or relay center would be great, no need to go out of your way to look at a box that does not concern this repair on the video but a simple statement that "THIS FUSE BOX SEEMS COMPLETE as all systems working, or at least not reporting a problem". Your video TITLE or description tells us which vehicle, maybe not the exact trim but HEY another trim may not have a trailer fuse?? Thank you for all your stuff Jake, cheers.
I’m not sure right now I’d have to look at it lol. I bought it off the gear wrench truck that runs my area. I’ll try to remember to get the name tomorrow and post it.
It’s not as good as a pico but much better than the snapon. It’s pretty similar to the autel ultra scope from the little bit I’ve used one. To me it’s easier to pull this scope out and get the captures I need than getting the pico but if I need to do something complex or needed longer buffers and better detail I’d use the pico.
Cool deal. I’ve looked into getting one, but haven’t seen a ton of videos with people using it so I’ve been hesitant. I’ve had good luck with other Topdon products so far. Anyways, thanks for the response and keep up the great video content!
@@automotiveinsight if I didn’t have a scope and I did have a topdon scan tool that is compatible with the scope I’d buy it. If I had pico money I’d get that first but I’d still get the topdon scope eventually just because it’s faster and works perfectly fine in 90% of situations.

That's awesome thanks you!
How satisfying to see that connector pin sticking out!
Thank you for this video. Since I retired in 2016 I've learned so much about CAN, LIN, LAN and others from You Tube videos like yours.
Amazing how a dc circuit assumes various voltages thru other paths when a critical ground is removed

FYI, the VSIM module is Vehicle System Interface Module not used on 1500s. Optional on 2500/3500 pickups and standard on chassis cabs.
I like your style Jake. Great video.

i would say most of the time people cause their own problems by installing this crap
Just impressive ! Thanks for making us learn more and gain more experience that easy ❤️

Great video and diagnosis. It sure was good to see that wire unpinned. I hate intermittent issues that fix themselves when you just touch something.

great diag Jake.
Awesome video Jake you the man!
Very meticulous and detailed.
I need to get that scope for my Phoenix Plus.

Another perfect diagnosis!
You always have interesting diags
Nice to see your back. Hope your trip went well with Megan. Thanks for sharing Jake. This was a good one . Artie 👍
It was an experience for sure!

Nice vid the air suspension on these trks is like the old lincolns they problematic leaks in system
great! performance
Thanks a lot and respect
Brilliant Jake, another great diag. Thanks for sharing.
These exact symptoms on my 2013 Ram 1500. Turned out to be no comms to a trailer brake module.
great fix sir
Very nice diagnostic work, Jake. I presume you are using your TopDon Pheonix Smart? Any recommendation for a more cost effective scan tool for part time DIY diagnostician - something in the $700 range? thanks.
Yes I’m using the Smart. The Phoenix Lite 2 is a very capable scan tool that’s close to that amount.
Great job Jake
I give very few kudos to Chrysler, but I love their star connectors.
Yeah the star connector design is probably the most efficient at diagnosing.
Mine is the radio, usb, cigarette plugs and left blinker indicator. I'm going to look under there

Great video!
Love can ,one fault and all goes down, you find it and fix it all, become the bid hero 😂
Great work
Excellent
Do you know what that pin under the Seat was for?
My educated guess was it's the ground for the seat module. That's just what makes sense.
It’s amazing when one bad ground can take down a whole system, you would think that the engineer’s would know that. SMH
Did you ever find out what that little box was that someone wired in under the seat? Thank you
No I didn’t. It was an auction car so no known history and I never googled the name that was on it.
This little module is for the suspension when u delete air ride so it doesnt say service air suspension suspension @autodiagyt
@@franzwiens well it's no longer in there lol. They was ok with the message coming up since it had been swapped to coil springs.
Just curious. What do you charge for a job like this. Excellent video.
I believe I billed 2 hours on this truck but I just bill my time rounded up.
I have a question for you about my 2019 ram 1500. Is there a way I can communicate with you? If you don’t mind.
Email is on my page
