It always amazed me how the circus moved all that stuff all over the country by train, especially considering how so many railroads have been downgraded or gone extinct over the years. It was quite a spectacle no matter what was pulling it. 3985 was a perfect fit.
Actually, in World War One, the US Army had to ask the RB&B&B Circus to teach them the logistics of moving large volumes of people and materiel by train.
@@saxonaudio her donation was just announced a few days ago! I’m sure the people who run 261 to treat 3985 well (and 5511 could potentially run again!) But with the Challenger needing so much work and this organization being so small compared to UP Heritage, I’ll be pleasantly surprised if the Challenger turns a wheel in the next 10 years. I wish them all the best.
Look at that! The drivers are moving quickly, the the wheels are spinning quickly upon the track, the engineer has his head stuck out of the cab, and every boy and girl who can see and hear dreams that they are him, or will one day be. I know as a boy, growing up behind reading 2102, I could never see that locomotive without believing that someday it would be me with my head out of the cab window! ( yes I know that's the fireman, but young boys and girls do not!)
Ed Dickens probably wouldn't have put the 4014 under that much stress pulling that long of a train. Ed would love to run the steam engine on a revenue freight but they don't have the parts and the parts aren't produced anymore so they really can't
