Only thing I can say is "Thx, Skip, for your magnificent work. Beautiful, as always." And the old girl proves once again that she still has what it takes. You can almost see her strut!
That was some long train pulled by steam in the 21st century! That Challenger was on the roll when it got the part to pull the circus train to help celebrate the 140th run of the RBBX circus and P.T. Barnum's 200th birthday! Well done Union Pacific 3985! You have made history today!!!
Skip, this is what I was waiting for! The light work I had done on 3985 helped emensly! Great video! My favorite spot! Once Again another get production! 5 stars.
Hi Skip, that is a fantastic video. What a brilliant advert for steam power, it is incredible just to see the length of the train. 5* without doubt. regards Dave.
Seems like the Challenger is really getting alot of internet fame, thank God! I hope UP gets the message and restores more of these amazing a astonishing machines. Only 2 Challengers left, and this is one from what I understand. A few Big Boys around the country , hope the restore them all, and get there mold out of the factory ware house and stamps some more. Really good video man!! Keep up the good work to you and the crew of the 3985! We all love you for what you guys are doing!
If this had taken place 20 years ago, I might have been able to see it live. I used to live by that set of tracks, in Platteville. I probably would have been in school and missed it anyway.
I am amazed. Is this loco capable to drag such a plenty of cars, with no help, or the diesel loco was assisting? The scenery at 1:00 of the film, on the grassy lands is superb, seems the elements were just waiting for this consist to pass by. Thanks for this gem.
The RBBB trains are unique already...but to have one pulled by a Challenger?! Nothing short of amazing! Is there any way to track or predict the RBBB trains? FUNundrum is coming to ATL in a few months and it would be awesome to catch that train near here.....
Man the circus hasn’t traveled by train since the earlier age of steam. And if I remember correctly Barnum and Bailey Circus was the circus featured in Mickey’s fun songs. I wonder if the circus is still around
Not sure if there are animals on board this run? At any rate this is a very expensive and irreplaceable train that has people aboard and I commend the Union Pacific for being prudent and cautious and adding the diesel to the consist; and a new one at that.
from the sounds of it, the diesel was most likely giving the UP 3985 a hand. Looks like a slight downgrade too. Probably more economical to use diesel help or as primary during parts of the haul. I would have loved to see the 3985 pulling primary. It's too bad that UP doesn't have the desire or backing to bring back a BigBoy. That would be a site to see. I guess that it's not economically feasible.
@Taquin1977 the rbrb circus train has 3 generater cars with two 500 h.p diesel engines to turn generaters to power the cars. The diesel could have been providing dynamic brakes for the train.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus staff seriously needs to put the anime & manga genre versions (along with the harem, magical girl, mecha, yaoi, and yuri versions) of extreme sports (along with skydiving, BMX racing, freestyle BMX, aggressive inline skating, freestyle slalom skating, and vert skating) in the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus buildings ONLY from Walt Disney parks and resorts if the circus staff just created the circus buildings ONLY from Walt Disney parks and resorts.
@SkipW Could it have been just providing house power to all those cars? On the specials on TV about the Ringling Bros., those cars are energy hungry to say the least.
I love this locomotive!
The US locomotives are so great!!!
Amazing, wonderful Circus world 😸👌😍⭐
Only thing I can say is "Thx, Skip, for your magnificent work. Beautiful, as always." And the old girl proves once again that she still has what it takes. You can almost see her strut!
Whoo! A well done Skip!
The Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey circus train pulled by the world's largest operating steam locomotive! Awesome!!!
The then world's largest. 4014 is now
@@AtkataffTheAlpha Yep!
This just happens to be one of the best train videos that I have seen on UA-cam! All I can say is awesome! Beautifully done my friend!
Union Pacific Challenger 3985 (Built by American Locomotive Company in July 1943) hauling the Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey Circus Train.
How cool that such an antiquated piece of technology can pull a train of that size. I love it!
Wow that is one train that is going down into the history books!! Great Job!
One of the best circus train videos i've ever seen
Hi Skip
Awesome shot of the special train, my congrates :)
At 3:26 you can see the ENTIRE TRAIN. Front to back. Great job!

That was the world record for a steam locomotive in the 21st Century! Awesome!!!

I am kind of late on this,,but thanks for sharing this great UA-cam Video. It looks like you had ''The Best Seat In The House''.
What a catch!
The opening scene looks like a lunar landscape! *****
Amazing shot!!
4014 and 3985 will be a great doubleheader someday.
Hi Skip, that is a fantastic video. What a brilliant advert for steam power, it is incredible just to see the length of the train. 5* without doubt. regards Dave.
Fantastic shots, Skip! Wish I could have been there to see that!!!
That was beyond science. I have no words.
This video reminds me of the opening scene of 'Spaceballs'
Nice Video Skip #3985 pulling the Ringling Express the worlds longest train this one will be in the record book this fall.

Wow... I knew they had quite a train but i didnt know it was that long. Very nice video
one word.. INSANE!
wow! long train
awesome, thanks for sharing
That was awesome. We all know 3985 could of pulled that without the helper easy. That was extremely impressive.
totally awesome
That was just imFing pressive. Made my evening.
6,000+ tons? Didn't think it was THAT heavy.
Excellent video!!

@wow85 it sure sounded like the diesel was working on the pull, it when it went under the bridge
They need to let the Big Boy give it a shot.
The Creepernator this didnot age well
Bruh I’m still mad at peta for shutting down the circus. We literally could of had 4014 pulling this train!!!!!
@@That_Thicc_Cat Probably never happen, Ed is going to baby that thing.

it might be old tech but this just goes to show when you REALLY want to get the job done, you gotta run steam
Sucks that ringling is closing
NICE!!!
Awesome shots!! Just need to get rid of the diesel and the friggin helicopter!
Man the circus hasn’t traveled by train since the earlier age of steam. And if I remember correctly Barnum and Bailey Circus was the circus featured in Mickey’s fun songs. I wonder if the circus is still around
DAMN, you cant hear the loco over that damn helo
Excellent!!!
Very great video but the helicopter disturbs.
Way cool...
I think Big Boy 4014 should pull a longer train!
Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 Challenger 3985 was pulling the Circus Train from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Denver, Colorado and return.
@rosegrovempd1 it was around 6100' worth of circus
Not sure if there are animals on board this run? At any rate this is a very expensive and irreplaceable train that has people aboard and I commend the Union Pacific for being prudent and cautious and adding the diesel to the consist; and a new one at that.

And 9 years later UP did bring a Big Boy - 4014.
Cool
that will be possible. one giant Big Boy 3985 haul 143 circus train with the express without a back engine. thats will be a 2nd Gunniest World Record.

@stevenr105 You're thinking of the Cole Bros. Circus
Anyone ever see the Jimmy Stewart film "The Greatest Show on Earth"? It showcases circus acts that you can't see anymore.
imagine trying to put this entire train on a ho scale rail plan
What was the number of the diesel loco???
@train2589 Ahhhh... now that makes complete sense why they would do that. They wouldn't have to rely on power from the grid wherever they go.
😮
One reason the circus is shutting down, all the clowns deserted and joined the demo"rat"party!!
@train2589 opps rb&bb circus train not rbrb.
Could of pulled by it's self it didn't need that dam ass diesel!!!!!!!
it wont be qualified to run to the mainline if it doesnt have the diesel, quit crying
DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA CIRCUS DA DA DA DA DA DA DA DA AFRO CIRCUS AFRO CIRCUS AFRO POLKADOT POLKADOT POLKADOT AFRO!!!!
I prefer up challenger Union Pacific
Too bad the helicopter was there to ruin the sound.
Stupid helicopter. I want to hear the train!
