    I bought a fairly new build house last summer, lawns looked like they've been neglected since the builders left, bought a scarifier 12 days ago, mowed, scarified, mowed again, threw down new seed, bit of top soil in areas, our neighbours said today its greener than its been in 10 years. Thanks for the vids 👍 looking forward to seeing it full recover.

    What weed killer do you use? I’ve just scarified mine. I had 3 of those bulk bags of thatch plus my brown bin full. I had some spring/summer fertiliser left over from earlier in the year. I think it’s 9-7-7 but not sure. Not sure what it means either. I have got some broad leaf weeds. I was trying to get them out by hand but it’s such a big area I gave up

      Hi weedol for lawns or resolva extra for lawns for weedkilling.. The numbers represent a percentage of what's in the product.. Nitrogen N. Phosphorus P and Potassium K (9-7-7).. This is a fairly balanced fertiliser with number similar to one another so it's just a good basic fertiliser.. For faster green ups you would want the first number higher, Nitrogen

    Hi Shaun, big fan of your channels and the great tips of provided. Well done!
    I was wondering whether you could check/comment my lawn renovation plan based on your videos?
    Date: End of Sep
    Area: ~45m2
    - Power rake to remove debris and moss from lawn surface;
    - Remove all weeds manually (mini spade/shovel);
    - Fill up the weed holes with top soil;
    - Mow short;
    - Scarify (1st pass in lines; 2nd pass at 45 degree angle);
    - Aerate (manual hollow core aerator);
    - Overseed (2x passes) ~50g/m2 = 2.25Kg with handy spreader;
    - Top dress with compost (brush);
    - Use feet to compress compost/seeds
    Which compost do you recommend and how much will I need to cover area ~45m2?

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  2 роки тому

      Hi, thanks for the kind words.. so its a failry robust plan to be honest! Id probably give the power rake a miss, so long as your scarifier is powerful enough.. just to save time.. BUT theres no harm in running over with it first if you want to.. The scarifier will remove moss and thatch.. You will probably need around 4 to 7 bags of compost at around 40 litre bags, Ive used b+q verve in purple bags befoe, wickes, and I also use a lot of the growmoor brand at home bargains, purple bags.. good luck! if you can get it in beore the end of spetember to give enough time for recovery after.. before it stops growing

    Great job Shawn, how deep would you go if you are doing an autumn overseed and can you top dress this time of year?

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  2 роки тому +2

      Hi.. so ultimately if seeding, you need to break the soil surface and create grooves usually maybe 5mm to 10mm deep to hold the seeds.. so practically you're simply scratching the soil surface.. if you've a lot of thatch you need to get down through that,and often in 2 or 2 different directions. So as for topdressing absolutely 😊👍

    Hi Shaun. Thanks for sharing your years of knowledge with us greatly appreciated. I am scarifying and hollow tine aerating next weekend with commercial machines over approx 3/4 of an acre. I have quite a few weeds and wild grasses on the lawns. Should I weed and feed the lawn pre/post scarifying & aerating or look to fertilise and over-seed after? Thanks Vic

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Vic.. 😊 so as it's only a week away, and you need to decide if you are definitely going to seed or not as this affects what you do. If no seeding then by all means feed and weed right away.. or... give it a week or 2 after the scarify and aerate then feed and weed once weeds have grown a little....... if you do plan to seed you shouldnt use any weedkillers now... and for at least 6 weeks after.. 6 weeks from then would be just touching November..if the temps are good you can try a weedkiller then but there may not be enough time to kill them completely before the grass stops growing. As for the wild grasses they would really need digging out deep the filling with soil and reseeding

      Hi.. depending on where you live it's still possible. I usually stop any seed work by mid October. Grass will germinate as long as we have temperatures over 7 degrees. Typically this allows for 6 weeks after mid october for it to germinate and come through usually just fine.. however weather can be unpredictable and the closer to this date you do it the more you get closer to chances of the weather turning worse.. so.... right now is fine.. (that's here in the uk).. and a great time to do it

      @@simonaskubilius3732 hi you can use a general autum fertiliser, or a preseed fertiliser but it's not the end of the world if you dont. I do usually use a light dusting of fertilizer though

      @@simonaskubilius3732 Hi theyre all quite similar.. I have tried the A1 brand so far in spring/summer this year on my lawn, and I just looked they also do a pre-seed fertiliser (amzn.to/3dmd969) but if you have any fertiliser sat around as long as its not too high in Nitrogen with a little more emphasis on phosphorous you will be fine (NPK - nitrogen potassium phosphorous, you'll see on fert, the K value should be a touch higher than the N value

    There’s an old saying in the lawn industry and that be good to your bulldog rake. I have mine 27 years, it’s had 14 need handles and 9 new heads.

    If you didn't mow the grass so short, it would stay green!

      If it were maintained properly, the HOC is irrelevant.
