For anyone asking “what is Improved about flurry rush?”
Improved Flurry Rush is a property of royal weapons, which doubles flurry rush damage.
doubles? other games have multipliers like +20% and nintendo thought +100% was a good idea for an attack that basically makes you invulnerable. this is like dark souls 1 hyper mode kind of crazy but without the risk

I usually just run in balls to the wall, since I find shooting them kinda awkward, as they are really fast

It can be annoying but it isn't hard. If you mash fast enough the hands will never damage you so the only damage you need to worry about is from the ground which is slow. Still annoying to get grabbed a lot though.

Hot take: the Gloom Hands are harder than Phantom Ganon. With Phantom Ganon, he fights so slow and passively that you can kinda easily wail on him without punishment. The Gloom Hands on the other hand, are some of the fastest and most aggressive enemies in the game to the point that you basically NEED to kill them with AOE items like Topaz, Bombs, etc to kill them before they kill you.
The hands are scary sure, but they don't do damage, just hold you in the gloom so you start to lose max health... The phantom does a ton of damage but moves slowly, which I think is a design choice to not make it feel like an impossible fight.
I wish the Gloom Hands could go up walls, that'd be awesome to have a freaky looking climbing animation with those things

@@DumplingDoodleNo they can't... They can traverse inclined slopes but not climb vertical walls. I've scaped many hand encounters in the past by "taking the high ground".

Stop flurrying with damaged weapons... When you dodge you can press → to switch to a different weapon before the flurry.

I was watching my brother play this game when it first came out. He encountered those hands and sat there for maybe 15 minutes just killing them with arrows, when he was finished he ran down and suddenly shadow Ganon appeared behind him and he turned around and it instantly killed him. It was so damn funny.
me when I finally killed the gloom hands with one heart left, (gloom took the rest) and then the boss bar showed up

I was going to my third regional phenomena (rito) and I decided to go in korok forest. go inside the deku tree and fight the gloom hands like 800 times before finally beating them with 1 hearts. Health bar shows up and one shots me.
Yep first time I defeated the gloom hands I died at the first swipe from phantom g.
Gloom hands aren’t really that hard when you realize they hate getting frozen.

@@Fastollis all you need is decently upgraded armor, a bunch of arrows, and a bunch of eyeballs. Recall ability is essential to reach frost gleeok on the final phase. Ruby shields will melt the ice before you ascend to the gleeok so watchout

Honestly I think the gloom hands are more terrifying than the guardians. You can easily take on a guardian in BOTW if you know what to do. In TOTK you face that thing with any BOTW knowledge, and you’re dead.
Obviously? Gloom hands are in like 6 places across the entire game. They’re rarer than most mini-bosses. In BoTW there’s a guardian every 10 feet. Of course it’s harder.

@@tfx9223 Gloom hands become more common the more you play, and they show up everywhere, including places you do not expect. They're also relentless.
Yeah the people who say they’re rare haven’t played long enough. They will randomly spawn basically anywhere in the overworld where there’s some room and shade once you progress far enough (idk the exact progression triggers)

First time I killed Gloom Hands was inside the Deku tree after getting chain grabbed by them for 5 minutes. Watching you murk them like that was cathartic.

I decided to see what happens when defeating the gloom hands today. And surprisingly it wasn’t hard at all. Standing on an elevated spot where they can’t reach you, shooting arrows in the eyes and the hands are defeated quite quickly and easily. I did not know however that a Phantom Ganon would appear after beating the hands and it was at that moment I realised mistakes were made lol
If Phantom Ganon isn’t volleying energy beams at you back and forth, it isn’t Phantom Ganon

Royal swords absolutely saved me in that phantom ganon fight in the castle, and theyve become my favorite weapon in the game bc they also look gorgeous
I feel like Phantom Ganon is infinitely less scary than the Gloom Hands. If you don't know what's coming, yeah it may be a surprise. But at least he isn't screeching at you or trying to grab your *ss every 5 milliseconds.
The real beauty here is how you handled that entire battle with finesse and style 😳 that was the coolest botw/totk battle I have ever seen and it didn't even last a minute. So much was happening 10/10 would watch again

I mean, makes sense that link can do this. At his fastest, he can solo a creature (calamity canon / Dark Beast Ganon) that killed hundreds of thousands of people over the span of 100 years in 25 minutes with only a fraction of that being the fight

I love how Phantom Ganon doesn't even get full extension on his swing before you start hitting him.
Royal weapons are kind of insane IMO. They're super common, their base damage is decent, and they have top-tier durability. On top of all that their x2 damage effect is one of the easiest (if not the easiest) double damage effect to reliably trigger. I love Zora and Gloom weapons or whatever, don't get me wrong, but I know a Royal Broadsword will carry me through more fights more efficiently than basically anything else (as long as you can reliably hit flurry rushes).
It would have been interesting if the Phantom had the same attack sequence from its other iterations. It used to be such an iconic gameplay mechanic from zelda games.

Demon King Ganondorf has a three shot slow moving energy attack that tracks link. If you hit them with the Master Sword they get bounced back (other weapons Don't bounce them and he doesn't dead man volly them but still)

I love the range of the Ice Lizalfos helicopter.
You can press B (or your dash button whatever its mapped to) during greatsword spins to cancel it.
This allows you to use the spin for mowing down, while greatly reducing endlag, durability loss and faster stamina recovery.

Right up there with water warrior, which doubles all damage when wet. Carry stuff like splash fruit and chuchu jelly, and youll be set
Sidon's ability also makes you wet, assuming you can activate it.
This whole video felt like one of those crazy perfect stealth runs when dishonored was still huge. Something I’ll always wanna be able to do but never have the patience to practice

I killed a Gloom Spawn today, and Phantom Ganon came out. He's not do tough when you realize he has more obvious telegraphing than a Mario & Luigi enemy. I Fused an Igneo Talus Heart to a weapon so I still had a challenge, but still killed him fairly quickly.
Phantom Ganon is just a test to see how well you can *dodge* and Flurry Rush...
i think the randomly spawning wall masters have to be my favorite enemy. in the beginning of the game, you dont have enough to fight them and you either have to run away or climb up a tree and hide. by the end of the game, they can be the most fun to fight, and the phantom ganon fights are always a treat.

Huh. Thats low key genius. Using a greatsword with an ice lizalfos tail to freeze the hands, then get a spear (royal halberd?), attack a silver lynel horn and take out the gloom ganon.

Royal Weapons requires you to dodge to use them effectively, which is not hard but needs a criteria to reach it's potential. Gerudo weapons on the other hand reach 100 just by fusing Endgame material
but royal weapons increases both the base weapons damage and the fuse material
Gerudos only boost the fused material, and even then come with a drawback(no durability up from material), making them some of the most fragile weapons possible.
Zora Weapons double both their base and the fused material when wet, which is easily achievable with rain, dipping in some water, or splash fruit. And being wet seems to last forever(hyperbole obviously, but it still lasts a long time).

It’ll get even better when you fuse a white-maned lynel Saber onto it. Which I believe is the strongest item in terms of additional damage you can have. Adds 44.
Although that’s if you don’t consider the ancient blade. Which adds 50 but insta-kills enemies like ancient arrows in BotW and they don’t drop anything.
Edit: I was mistaken. The silver lynel saber horn adds 55 damage. More so than the white maned saber.
If you want silver lynel horns consistently every blood moon, try the area far beneath the coliseum.

I've done every shrine, near 100% the game...and I never once thought of trying to freeze the hands until I saw this video.

damage came from mostly fuse because you had a 55+ attack silver lynel saber horn attached to it
Dazzling fruit insta kills them! Even just aiming one at them
shoutout to zora and gerudo weapons for when flurry rush isnt an option. zora weapons excel when you have time to set up, which really just means shoot normal chuchu jelly at ground, and gerudo weapons still work otherwise, at the cost of having lower durability.
also if my calculations are correct, a normal 61 dmg eightfold blade + silver lynel horn deals 61(base dmg)*8(assumed sneakstrike multipler)*2(conditional weapon multiplier)=976 damage per sneakstrike, and in my experience, 1-shots silver lizalfos and anything weaker.

Try this with the Molduga bone, Radiant set at rank 2 or the Dark Spirit set and add 4 Mighty Bananas with a dragon horn and see it's truest potential. If you think it's strong now, you haven't seen anything yet.
I've only ever bombed the hell out of those hands with Savage Lynel Bows. Nice to see that ice melee is very effective on them. Also, I will be looking at the value of having a royal weapon with silver lynel saber horn on it now. Thank you.

I prefer desperate strenght on the knight equipment. If you're good enough to trigger flurry rushes on a dude you're good enough to survive at 1 heart long enough to delete the hp of the dude.
iirc Royals have higher base damage(by like 3-4 points, which are then doubled during the fr). Also, they don’t require you to perfectly dodge every single attack, just attacks where you will do damage. There’s some margin of error there, which the knight stuff sorely lacks imo.
@@Cheerwine091 I thought royals increased weapon durability during flurry rushes, if they double damage then they're comparable to knights i guess, but i still like mounting a lynel and beating their ass with a 150 damage claymore fused with their own horns.
Every weapon has its use. But lord knows the best way to deal with Lynels, without silly ass zonai war crimes, is a near broken Royal Guard's Weapon Fusion while mounted on their back. For everything else? LightScale Trident thanks to Sidon and the overabundant amount of rainy weather XD
Unless you're sneak attacking... then steal a Yiga blade and put whatever you want. Silver Lizalfos for prestige, and Silver Lynel for when you need to take out the biggest of prey(that can be sneaked XD)
It seems to extend the window to triger Flurry Rush too, but it might just be my impression.
I love Lizalfos tails, they're so good! Actually, pretty much every item from a Lizalfos is great.

Just so you know, light weapons are super effective against them, things like star rods and light dragon spikes do a ton
I feel like when people are doing damage calculations, they forget to consider just how powerful the royal weapons are, like, a pristine royal claymore with max attack and silver lynel saber horn reaches 99 damage before you even flurry rush, meaning with a flurry rush that becomes 198 damage, factoring in full attack up that becomes 297 damage per hit, so that's something
2 handed weapons do around 5% more damage than indicated, so it has a base damage of a little over 100
Watching this I can imagine how all the other cavemen felt when they witnessed one of them kill a sabertooth tiger for the first time

The ability to deal 2x damage during flurry rushes is pretty much what makes the Royal weapons among the best non-legendary weapons in the game. The only downside with them, however, is knowing that not every enemy offers perfect dodge opportunities (such as the Gleeoks).
Zora weapons + Sidon or a splash fruit to the floor in any area that allows you stay wet for a reasonable amount of time will also double damage. Never had any issues getting wet against Lynels or Gleeoks. Definitely agree royal weapons are up there though

in generell the same goes for knights weapon like it isnt difficult to win with 1 heart if my enemy dies before he can even touch me this is why you should never put straight double or tripple damage in your game.

honestly i prefer the knight set (double damage when at 1 heart or less) because it also does extra damage when normally parrying, and to unflurryrushable enemies like gleeok and most other minibosses.
