Wanted a Z900 for the last couple of years. Read and heard a lot about the snatchy throttle and the stiff suspension. Ended up buying a used RT. No snatch in the throttle. Wife loves the bike. I’m having women that I’ve never seen before roll down their car windows and say “wow that’s a good looking bike”. It also holds $100 US of groceries in the hard cases. It sounds like a John Deere tractor. It starts like a John Deere tractor but it’s not, it’s a BMW r1200rt. At 3000 rpm the wife can’t even feel the engine running. Love the bike. Maybe you would love one too. (?)
Hi Willie, Seems modern kawasaki's suffer this snatchy throttle problem and the harsh engine braking you mentioned. I have a 2021 Versys 1000 which until recently suffered the exact same things plus it would stall at the drop of a hat. So I bit the bullet and got a full remap. Let me tell you the difference, it IS night and day. It now runs much smoother, pulls better (gained extra 6 ponnies with stock air box and can), doesnt cut out and more importantly my wife feels the difference too. We enjoy the bike more now. Sweet looking ride you got pal.

I have 2013 Ninja 300 that has a snatchy throttle. It's much better than it was but it's a bloody nuisance. Could only imagine a 900 with the same level of problem.

It is a very good looking bike and I think the carbon bits you mentioned would enhance it. I have a resto GPZ1100B1 on the go and that has twin horns on the front, (horns, not horns) and it does balance the look of the front... Good luck with the re-map, I hope it helps the throttle response.

Sorry I couldn't make bike night, perhaps another time. Went today to Stoneham Barns, which had a combined boot sale and car show. 900 plus vehicle's it was packed. The thing was, they thought Ethel was one of the exhibition bikes, so it ended up parked amongst classic collectors' bikes for free 😂 Great run there and home, though. Happy Kwakaring mate Lee
Every reviewer has commented on the snatchy throttle, we’re you not prepared for it; found it on the test ride? I saw this version at the NEC in November, lovely paint job and period badging but here is my prediction; you’ll sell it before it’s a year old😢
If you black out the sides of the radiator you'll have to black out that silver/chrome piece under the tank/seat since they catch the eye so well together. 😉 The radiator cap does look much better now. Hope your Sunday has been great!
Think you’ll find booster plug cannot be fitted to Euro6 models, which yours is. Also, be aware larger radiators were fitted at some point, so …. etc etc. Have seen a photo of the RS with a yellow radiator guard, worth considering? Have you thought about a custom paint job for your “lid”, (& the better half), to match the bike? If I have anymore tasteful suggestions I’ll let you know. 🤣🤣
@@2wheeledwillie395 I’ve fitted “frame bungs” from Pyramid to make the frame appear less cluttered. They also have rear hugger in carbon black and painted.
There is no Euro 6 for motorcycles; I think you mean Euro 5+, which applies to all new bikes registered from 1 January 2025. All the emissions limits are the same as Euro 5, the main difference is the requirement for OBD monitoring of emissions, effectively monitoring the condition of the catalytic converter.
My mate just took out the special edition with the Olins suspension, performance exhaust with de cat, but standard silencer re fitted, tail tidy. He didn’t like it. Heard nothing but, great vibes re the bike. Too noisy even at 50mph with ear plugs. Similar height to yourself. Said he was bitterly disappointed, as it’s defo a great looker. It handles great, and felt comfortable, but felt so disappointed by its overall ride. I was surprised to hear this. He rides an Africa twin. But, added it did make him want to try something else other than his Africa twin. Ah well, I guess, if it don’t feel, or work for you, it’s not the bike for you.😊 Not for me either, cause my wee leggies, won’t touch the ground……😂
I think it will be THE perfect bike (for me) post remap....the looks are amazing, the engine is AMAZING, mega comfortable for me (high seat height) sounds incredible..just needs the snatchiness sorted and then it's a forever bike!! ....I do get it's not for everyone though

Willie , love ya man ,but I would have made the dealer straighten out that bike. If as you describe then it's basically unrideable. I certainly wouldn't be spending my money on something that should be perfect. And if the dealer tells you that's the way it is, then I think you're being had.
Love ya too bud but it's all down to the Euro 5 emission laws , ruining the fueling etc...I love the bike so much that in my mind it's a small price to pay...apparently the difference is like night and day 😀
I have mentioned this before and Willie, I promise not to mention it again lol. I really do not understand why these bikes don't go back to Kawasaki and have them fix it. I purchased a 2016 Indian RoadMaster back in 2015 and it suffered from a similar symptom. Polaris received multiple complaints about it as it was somewhat of a safety issue (especially with such a large bike). They eventually did a ECU update and the problem was corrected. Just seems odd to me that you have to pay to get the bike to be less snatchy. Rant over lol.

The title (barely discussed?) is best for: you the rider (eliminates the snatchiness), the bike (eliminates the 'lean running' requirement) allows engine temps to remain cooler, reduced piston wear & often gets BETTER MPG than stock, which is counter-intuitive? But the engine smoothness becomes a 'strength' of the in-line four's character. Yes, alot of money, but seems to be a serious value-added proposition. @@2wheeledwillie395. Hi, what he might mean is, once you get it serviced and they update the ECU it returns to stock. So you’ll probably have to go back to whoever to remap. When I bought my 2nd T120 I was informed and was told as eg. I could not put in a K&N filter and do other changes. Probably when Euro 6 comes in, it’ll be impossible to do anything, so my advice is for the people who love tinkering to keep their Euro 4 bikes. Cheers and good luck with your beautiful bike.
@@2wheeledwillie395 Pity Triumph doesn't have similar design.I was looking at the grab rail for my Speedtwin that bolted to rear shock bolt but don't like that design so went for the short loop grab rail that goes around the seat. The one on your bike 🏍 is very clean looking & practical.

If its not just the throttle, remap makes sense. I think kawasakis, and at least a few other Japanese bikes are made to be more "sporty". So they set the bike up with very sensitive throttle (at least sensitive when it's not high in the rev range) and hard engine braking. Because when you're tearing around a track, generally, that will mean you get more control as you go into a braking zone, and give you more control as you come back on the throttle, low gear, high revs. Now, if that bike doesn't handle well on a track like that, I don't know why they'd set the bike up in that manner. Maybe something to do with passing emissions/import laws. Either way, a remap should make it more friendly for the road, and if done correctly, won't sacrifice "sportiness". Hope it goes well! 👍

Had my 2022 remapped...it really is night/day. Much smoother, no snatchy throttle/emissions intervention and pulls cleaner and harder.

Yep fully aware of it and yep noticed on both test rides but also knew that it was fixable with a remap...if I sell it eventually then so be it
Recently sold my gs 1250 and had a look at the rs up close for the 1st time. The tank is massive, kind of put me off the bike a bit.

Yes the radiators on the early models were indeed smaller 👍 not sure about a yellow rad guard though!!😂

there is no point trying to remap a 2024 bike due to euro5 after all it is not a sports bike

No the Booster plug probably won't work on bikes past 2022 cause of emissions standards.
I like the design of the Grab rail on your bike how it doesn't attach to the shock bolts & go to under the seat.

@@2wheeledwillie395 I did not say it was wrong. I said I wouldn't add carbon bits. (or what's worse plastic made to look like carbon OMG) I added a fenda extenda, satnav mount Givi rack, and Motech engine bars to mine. By all means change the bike to make it yours, we all do it.
