  • Also finally got the chance to film this thing again after ten years! This is the other elevator near that strange unbranded generic, and the most interesting one. In fact, this one is a second hand old Hitachi elevator that came out of nowhere! It was added sometime in mid 2017 as a secondary elevator serving the hotel, probably because the generic was deemed insufficient. Ironically this one is also smaller like the generic.
Now about this elevator. This thing is so interesting not only because it's better than the nearby generic, but being a second hand it still retains its complete original car interior! It features the standard 1970s-80s Hitachi ceiling type with four square lights on each corner of the ceiling plus an old blade ventilation fan in the middle commonly found in old elevators (this time the fan was working, fortunately). Also includes the old Hitachi analog floor indicator above the car door which is no longer working. The car interior might have been slightly refurbished at some point. The COP had already been replaced even before the elevator was relocated here, featuring generic fixtures made by German company LiSA. Sadly the original LiSA dot matrix display has been replaced with a very simple tiny segmented display. Lastly, it has the classic Hitachi bell chime which is pretty unusual for a second hand elevator.
Performance wise, it actually runs pretty well and smooth apart from a slight sway felt between the 4th and 3rd floor. Seems that it now runs with a different motor, and the speed is somehow slower than 1 m/sec; a little bit disappointing but I guess that wouldn't be too much an issue for a cheap hotel.
Finally, I know this thing is a second hand unit thanks to a post I found in an undisclosed Facebook group back in 2017. According to that post, the elevator was manufactured in 1983 and was modernized in 2008 by Marico Gria with LiSA fixtures and controller. Obviously someone else was selling this elevator from somewhere else and eventually got sold to an unknown buyer, possibly the owner of this building. Honestly I was a bit shocked when I first filmed this elevator in 2018, didn't even expecting an old elevator that I accidentally saw on Facebook to ended up here! Of all the second hand elevators I've ridden in the past, this is the best ones so far!

Other countries wouldn't allow selling and installing second hand elevators possibly due to health and safety reason.

I wonder if this is the only Hitachi in Bali, or whether there's (or was) more.

@cjermia1 RIMBA Jimbaran has some China made Hitachi (either MCA or LCA type), similar to the ones in AYANA Komodo. Not sure if there are a few more on the island.

How many second hand or "used" elevators have you found? Have you only found such elevators in Indonesia? I'm not sure that I have hard of this in any other countries.

If you're wondering, I have a playlist dedicated to second hand elevators and escalators on my channel. Have a look at it.

Singapore just opened Marine Parade MRT station in June this yr, with Exit 3 using a pair of Kone E3X escalators made all the way back in June 2009, whereas other escalators are TransitMaster 140 made in early 2022 instead. The E3X are suspected to have been transferred frm Caldecott MRT station's former Exit A when that was downgraded to an emergency exit during expansion works in 2021. So I guess these E3x are considered 2nd hand too (though they now have extra lighting added onto their ballstrades to match those on the newer TransitMaster)
