You pretty much nailed it. I am not here for clickbait, fame, subscribers. Etc etc I want to practice my skills and share everything about the wild places and nature that this fascinating country has to offer. Slow and steady
I have tonnes more footage. But just don’t have much time to edit more. That’s the problem. One day I will make something else for Toraja. But I know that @kristianhansen will be there sometime soon so I am sure he will make something complete
As a Torajanese myself, I am proud that you went there by motorbike. I did something like that once in a year 8 years ago when I was still in college, and it brought back old memories from when I was still in Makassar. Good work mate. I found you in Kristian Hansen's video that you love traveling on motorbikes as much as he does. With your hard work until this day, you deserve more than 10 thousand subscribers or more and I hope so. Be safe out there mate. My greetings from Manokwari, West Papua. 🙏🙏
You make really great videos. Indonesian culture really fascinates me, I heard that it is very rare for people to film Toraja funerals because they are rarely held, you are very lucky. I hope your channel grows fast and maybe you will be contracted by national geography.😊
I know you because i see kristian video recently. And suprisingly.. Your video is really amazing sam, i like your pov and your narrative, glad to know your channel and already subscribe!
It's amazing to see how much diversity and rich cultural heritage Indonesia has to offers.. As Indonesian who live overseas I thank you from the heart to show and share your experience to us .. 🙏 Tanah Toraja definitely not gonna be in my bucket list 😣 but still am able to experience through your video .. Terimakasih Sam ..
Never crossed my mind that such extraordinary and expensive funeral being held in Toraya! It doesn't look like a funeral though and the poor buffaloes 😢 i couldn't bear to see them killing those buffaloes😭 an interesting video Sam! Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy seeing Tana Torarja again. I was lucky enough to be a part of these ceremonies, and see the Tau Tau and the caves, and children being buried high up in trees. Truly a experience the brave hearted should all see! I am growing some of the peppers from there now. Their called Kotakkon super hot. I will see how spicy when their ready to eat. Love being introduced to your work, from seeing you on Kristian's channel. Keep it up. Peace, Dennis
Hi Sam, i really love your video. As someone who have a mother which torajanese i often going back there but because of the busyness of my parents we couldn't stay longer than 3 days. About Rambu solo, I have mixed feelings about this lol because back then when i was child my grandfather siblings died and i have to see the buffalo thing which freak me out. The Buffalo was running crazily and there's also foreign people that getting scared and followed me running inside the bamboo tent 😅 it was so dangerous istg. Well i still love Toraja because the people there is so welcoming and ofc Toraja is my mother's home. Thank you for you amazing video Sam ❤
Thank you. I think because I visit very remote areas and with little interest. Maybe I have a small niche. But I really appreciate comments like this. I hope I won a new subscriber in you.
I know ur channel fr Kristian I watched yesterday, and now I've several of ur videos. They r amazing, breathtaking videos. Thank u 4 sharing all of ur experiences. The sinematography is insane!
hey @IndoWild I'm approaching my travel to Sulawesi in a couple of days! I've been following your videos and travels around Sulawesi to discover more and plan properly my 1month trip there. I was wondering if you could share with me August contact to go around Rantepao and experience the ceremonies there
I was there in August which is the peak season of the funerals due to very mild weather, not much rain. Etc. during the July -October months there are many many funerals. At other times of the year it’s much less. But there are still funerals. If you’re going out the season then it’s better to connect with a guide first and plan the dates accordingly.
come here after watching you in kris videos, nice work on your videos mate...great adventure, can't wait you to come to Borneo and explore. safe trip mate

Truly amazing culture, they way the funeral is not sad like here in uk the change of clothes every year is so unique. I guess it goes back thousands of years and is normal to the local people. Fascinating culture.
Dude ... Another time you come to Toraja, better never touch anything inside the graves ... Because that is one of our away to honor to our ancestor ... Thats why we doing Manene, another ritual to respect our ancestor ... 😊

I think they are rich is land and culture. But honestly the most traditional high status families spend all their wealth on a funeral, thus fuelling the economy
Would you believe that before religions were introduced, shaman from the people of toraja would call the dead man to walk home if they were found dead far from the village? practices of rituals were abundant in old times.
Wow. I didn’t know that. There is so much fascinating history with Toraja and the surrounding areas. I like the fact that elsewhere in Central Sulawesi there are stone megaliths and the stone is likely to have been dragged from Toraja. It’s a long way. They also used to bury their dead in caves. But those people are long and forgotten. Sulawesi is truly an amazing place
@@IndoWild one of the rituals that still exists commonly here is like the Dayak tribe sword dance in Kalimantan, they'll be immune to any sharp objects. You can find the some of the recordings on youtube with the keyword: atraksi kebal Dayak.
Only the high class have the expensive ones. And they littwrally sell, get loans and save for years to get the money for an extravagant funeral. It’s a major part of the economy
@@IndoWild Really appreciate you taking the time to reply! Makes me wonder if there's gold in those mountains that pay for these events, I mean these amounts are staggering!
It is sickening and sad to see how these beautiful animals are being used in fights for human entertainment, I get it that this has been part of a long lasting tradition but we , humans , have evolved in the past hundreds of years and just because certain things are deemed to be tradition does not mean we should make sure that they continue.. We used to eat with our hands before we invented forks and spoons and chopsticks and became civilized , we used to eat dogs and had glamorous dog eating festivals before we finally decided to become civilized and stop eating them. I am sure we can do in funerals without further harming the animals..
I don’t disagree and most parts of Indonesia have changed from cruelty. The Cockfight is still quite popular across all of Indonesia. And in Toraja they have bull fighting among others. Toraja people have a very special almost celebrity status in Indonesia.
