I have one story that's more funny I guess than scary. When I was a little boy my grandmother had a small farm and lived in a late 1800's house. Well, At night I kept hearing something moving outside my window and the window was open. I finally built up the courage to fling back the curtains a little bit more and a big old Cow leaned in to the window and moooooed at me. It scared me for a few seconds and then I bust up laughing.

This story still makes me laugh over 30 years later:
My son was about 3 and came running in our bedroom one morning and said, "Mama and Daddy there is a cow in the living room!". He was so scared.
Turned out the "mooing" was wind blowing through the air conditioner on the wall!
      Poor kid!

I loved your granny’s story. Lol , I have a story but it’s not about a ghost. Scared me really bad though. When my husband went to work in the town just south of where we lived, we had to rent a house there because the company required all people they hired to live in that town. When my 2nd son turned 3 years old we had a family birthday / dinner party for him. When it was over and all family members went home, the boys got their bath and they went to sleep, so did my husband. I cleaned up the kitchen and decided to have a piece of the birthday cake. Had sat down in the living room when I heard the doorknob being shook so hard like someone was trying to break in the house. I left that piece of cake on the couch and ran really fast into the bedroom, woke my husband up and went into our boys room cuz you could see the back porch and back door out of their window. There was the thing that was shaking my door knob…. a really big tall man, still trying to break in the house. My husband whispered to me to call the police and he ran and got one of our guns out of the closet. He took off running to the back kitchen door, not remembering all he had on was his underwear. The door had a glass window in it so the guy saw my husband and he took off running and my husband just kept running after him but it was so dark he couldn’t see good behind the houses on our street. He came in, put some jeans and boots on and went back outside. He noticed our landlord in his truck shining his headlights down the back of all the houses. He ran over to his truck and told him to turn them off and had him get out and low crawl with him about 5 houses up from ours. The man made the mistake of lighting a cigarette and then they rushed the guy and put him on the ground.Still no police so, the landlord got some rope out of his truck and pretty much hog tied the guy. My husband kept that gun on the guy the whole time. Police got there and told us this guy had been stealing out of cars and houses in the area for quite some time. I am so thankful that God kept us safe.

I had an uncle that lived out in the country, not very populated, and my brothers and I would go exploring in the dried up river bed there. We saw bobcat tracks a few times but once we were there and heard that bobcat! It chilled me to the bone!! I'll never forget that sound! To say the least, we ran as fast as we could thru mud and briar to get away!

This brings me back to a memory of a haunting story I heard as a kid! There was this old logging camp in northern Wisconsin turned cabin resort! One cabin was said to be haunted and no one would stay a whole night there! Knocks on the bedroom door after midnight every night waking guests up! One day a stranger came into town needing a a place to stay the week and it was a busy week for the area so only the haunted cabin was available! The stranger stays he ain't afraid of ghosts he was way to tired to care and had a business thing the next morning so he rented this cabin! After midnight the knock came and he half awake he asked the knocker what he wanted ! The ghost responded where I should I put the gold ! The stranger says on the dresser and let me sleep ! He heard foot steps go over to the dresser seeing no one and heard a clanking go on the dresser top but seen nothing! The next morning he found 50, 000 dollars in gold on the dresser top that was completely bare when he went to sleep! This was back in the 60s so that was a lot of money ! After that night the ghost never returned after that night !

I used to work at a hotel, and I had several encounters there. I've seen figures walk by in the halls, I've had the bottom of my uniform top tugged (then heard a child giggle), my name was called many times (when I would be the only person on the floor), and I've had objects fly off the tables at me. Thank goodness I don't work there anymore.

Gosh girls. I grew up listening to many ghost stories from my dear mother, and aunts. Great memories. BUT, the one I want to share with you happened about six years ago. My Dad (he passed away in Feb, and was 91 at the time). He along with my sister and niece and nephew visited us in WA state & after their two week visit we drove back to TX. As we drove in the middle of nowhere MT our car broke down. Night was upon us. No gas station nearby, no town nearby, no cell service. As my Dad and nephew were trying to fix the car we started getting irate at our poor dear old Dad. Then he tells us,,why are you all getting so upset, soon enough a white truck will drive by and the guy driving it will have everything we need to get this car moving. Of course we all looked at him & my sister exclaims. We haven’t seen one single car, we’re in the middle of nowhere and…we’ll, just then we see headlights. A WHITE truck stops, a gentleman gets out and says, “looks like you folks need some help”..we all literally looked at each other like what the..except Dad. He looked at us like “I told you so” I kid you not that man had the correct tools to fix the car. He helped Dad fix it. All this time my sister and I kept looking at each other speechless and we kept whispering, “this guy’s an Angel”. Car gets fixed, and we all gave the gentleman a hug telling him”you’re an Angel” he just smiled warmly, gave us all a hug and tells us to have a safe drive. We pile back in the car and as we turn to say our last goodbye, the truck is GONE, literally GONE. silence in the car, we all looked at Dad and he smiled. God loved, God, believed in God. He prayed every single day. True Christian. We truly believe God was with him whenever he needed him.

Great stories! Thanks for sharing! My scary story is about my sister (15 months younger than me) and myself, the first time my parents went out at night and left the two of us alone in that big ole, 2-story parsonage with a creepy basement, by ourselves, after dark. We were in the den watching TV and heard this big crash (bump, bump, bump) back from the hallway where all our bedrooms were. We looked at each other and went flying out of the house. We stood outside talking about what to do (our pride didn’t want to let us go ask the neighbors for help), but we decided that would be better than staying outside in the dark till our parents came home. Our neighbor’s husband accompanied us back across the street and asked where we thought the noise came from. He checked my parents’ room, then my sister’s and he asked if we had anything leaning or hung on the wall that might have fallen. Why, yes, my sister’s first beau who played the drums, had given her his pair of drumsticks and she had taped them on the wall! Sure enough, there lay those drumsticks on the floor! We were so relieved for about two seconds until we realized my confused and worried parents came in the back door wondering why our neighbor was there. They had a good laugh at us for getting scared at drumsticks falling. It was a while before we stayed alone at night again! (Jane in SC❤🙏🏻)

Loved all these stories thanks! Austin my sister thought she saw a ghost in the alley behind our house! A classmate of hers who was about 15 had been killed in a car accident! She was a kind hearted girl Her class remembered her at the funeral by relating stories about her. My sis said she was standing in the alley holding out her hand saying talk to me. She hadn't spoken at the service. I didn't know what to believe so I told sis you've talked about her so much maybe you thought you saw her! She always claimed to have seen her. Thought all the stories were scary thanks again for sharing them!

On Military duty one night, checking the upper unused corridor of an accommodation building, as I walked in, I felt this presence and the senses told me to get out, now - which I did.
Another one as told to me. Five Scouts had a Farmer's permission to camp in an old tin hut. These were normally placed around properties to provide shelter to workers who could be out over night or a few days. They came with a fireplace for warmth and cooking.
The fire is going and low lamp light glowing, the boys playing cards and telling ghost stories. The wind had come up and the old trees made a scrapping noise as they brushed against the roof and sides. Then a couple of harder thuds. As I heard, its amazing there were not five holes in the roof, as they heard this very loud, shattering, bellowing "MOO". Might try to turn this into a poem one day.

Big feet scare us alot in Oregon. They come sniffin around usually at night time we don't have no glass winders only shudders and they try to push on them the jittering wakes us up a lot. We get scared cause we think it could be a bear or mountain lion but it's just them so we go and open the thick shutter and see which one it is . The one we call Julie usually wants a table spoon of processed sugar so we give her some and she goes away soon after. We pop up from a dead sleep and smell them so you be calm it ain't no bear or lion.

Oh my goodness girls!!! The semi truck story - I had a similar experience about 5-7 years ago!!! I was turning into the grocery store parking lot and looked in my rear view mirror. I had my signal on and saw this semi truck just barrelling through in my lane coming closer and faster. I made the turn at the same time the truck went on down the road. But it was physically impossible! I was really shaken up and called my husband from the car in the parking lot to tell him what happened. I knew it was GOD who saved my life that day!!! It was like she said - as if the truck went right through me! ***chills***

One morning, a few years ago I left the house to go to work. It was snowing hard. I made it to work safely. At the end of my shift, I clocked out, went outside (the only exit/entrance is a very steep hill). At this time there was even more snow/slush on the road. I was driving a small 2 wheel drive car at this time. As I started the car I said a prayer that God would bless me with a safe trip home (I lived about 5 minutes away from this job). As I started down the hill I slid a little, then I made it to the main road. There's a little road I went down leading to my house. All of a sudden I look through my mirror and I seen bright headlights (it was still daylight outside), it was a big rig (I don't recall ever seeing one before or since that day on this particular one lane road), I immediately felt an overwhelming sense of calm. As soon as I pulled in my driveway I looked over and the big rig was gone. It just vanished! I looked at the road and there wasn't any tire tracks or evidence whatsoever of that big rig. I think, perhaps, it was an angel.

Linesville Inn, in Linesville in northwest PA, is famous for being haunted. My wife and I visited it one Christmas for a self guided tour. The Inn was used for meetings, but the rooms had no bathrooms, rather each floor had a common bathroom, and the rooms were not used.
Near Christmas, businesses open later than usual one night, and after visiting various stores, we went to Linesville Inn. We couldn't get in, they were doing a Paranormal interview at the entrance, which was soon over and into the Inn we went. Each room was decorated in a T.V. show Christmas theme, one room was the Christmas Story (the kid that wanted the Red Ryder BB Gun).
Two toured two floors of the Inn, and just short of the last room was an undecorated room, we entered the room, my wife first. As I entered, I was overcome by a feeling of sadness, I had tears in my eyes, and I lost the ability to speak. Reaching out for my wife, I was too far away to tap her shoulder to turn around. Eventually I caught up, could again speak, and told her what happened. We went to another room, discussed what happened in more detail, and I decided to again enter the room where I had the experience.
Nothing happened, that time, but lying flat on the bed, was a nightgown, I'd sworn in a court of law that when I first entered the room, it had shape to it, as if it had a dressmaker's form inside. I asked my wife, she said it was laying flat the first time as well.
We spoke with the owner, he was not surprised that I had the experience, and said that room, many years ago, was a corridor to the Theater located next door to Linesville Inn.

My second experience was SUPER WEIRD but SUPER COOL (and I just remembered another angel story I'll try to tell later--it's past bedtime ha! BTW, they're kind of "spooky" but we've always KNOWN they were because of angels.). This one was about "LOSING TIME"!!
My kids were older, about 12 & 13 in this one. We were in LA, at a Believers convention, and I decided to take my kids to a great restaurant in between sessions, several miles away, down another huge interstate, the Santa Ana Freeway (angels are all over the interstates, ha!). It was just starting to be rush hour, so people were super speeding before the traffic got jammed, and we were right behind a little car that was just behind a huge, old, Class A RV. Cars were zooming around, on our left AND right, going over the interstate limit (65-75 mph?). My kids and I were actually talking about it, so we were all watching ahead. Another small car zoomed around my left and cut off the RV, which caused the RV to swerve to avoid it, and it started tipping over! And the small car in front of us and our car had nowhere to go, with cars on both sides of ours. We were probably bracing for impact, and I'm sure my kids and I hollered for Jesus this time too, but we DON'T REMEMBER that part! (And it's funny because I do remember a thought flashing through my mind that we were gonna crash and miss our dinner reservation, and it would be closing after, and we would miss the last speakers of the convention! Haha!)
Anyway, in a SPLIT SECOND, we were casually driving SLOWLY (5mph?) through debris, between a stopped car and the right side barrier, around the right side of the TIPPED OVER RV, AND PEOPLE WERE CASUALLY WALKING AROUND, inspecting damages & checking for injuries, as if it had happened 5 min. before!!!
The small car that had cut off the RV was UNDERNEATH the front/top of the RV, but we saw NOBODY worried, the driver was squeezing out out of his window of the squished car SAFELY, and the RV people were ok and already WALKING AROUND!!!
There were NO CARS DRIVING on the forward side of the crash but us! It was as if we were the FIRST CAR around it!! But it was the "flash-flood-like" time at the beginning of the rush! Plus, ours & many other cars SHOULD HAVE BEEN STILL CRASHING into one another!! We, just a split second before, had been driving interstate speed!
It was as if time had JUMPED FORWARD! I'M TOTALLY SERIOUS! You can ask my kids!! But, we THANKED JESUS & OUR ANGELS!! Then we continued on to the restaurant and had neither lost nor gained any time!
If you're wondering why I didn't stay to report to police, it's because the facts didn't even register in my brain as we were driving around it! I remember thinking "How in the world did we not crash?!" I didn't know! I even remember wondering at the restaurant if it really had happened, but my kids said yes.
AND, on the way back, WE DROVE BY THE CRASHED RV & CARS & MESS! And the interstate was STILL backed up MANY MILES!! As a matter of fact, AFTER the last convention session that night, we were back in our hotel room and had switched on the TV, and news was on, SHOWING THE CRASH STILL BACKED UP FOR MILES! We watched the report, praising God! Especially when they said NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED!! It really was true! And angels protected EVERYONE'S lives!

Enjoyed these ! Great stories! I understand about the possum, had that happen a time or 2...Austin's brother's eyes probably were messed up from all the screen time and seeing what he had looked at for so long up close, then when he looked off in the distance, it showed the figure . Just a guess though. Looking forward to a matt story . Matt is a great story teller....thanks y'all...God bless....🙏❤

About 6-8 years ago when I was still in good health I was deer hunting with my bow. This was about 3-4 miles from my house. My house is at the end of a holler and I live in deep in the woods. I grew up in the Appalachian mountains and I have spent many years in the woods. I had set all day on the edge of a field that had good deer sign. I was well hidden and often see deer in this location but today I didn’t see nor hear anything. The sun was getting ready to sink behind the mountain and I decided to leave before dark since I had no flashlight. I walked about ten steps and stepped into the opening. As soon as I stepped into the opening I heard the scariest sound coming from the ridge just above me. It is so hard to explain this sound and when I think about it I get goosebumps. It sounded very very loud and at first like a wolf howl leading into a lion’s roar and it was a long long roar. It was so loud that I could feel it resonating within my chest. I knew it was very close but I couldn’t see it due to low light. I hunt with a old style recurve bow with homemade wood arrows which I knew was no match for whatever it was. I proceeded to walk toward my truck which was about a mile away. The whole time I walked I didn’t hear that sound again which scared me even more because I didn’t know if I was putting distance between us. I still can’t believe that I didn’t run to my truck because I has a arrow nocked in my bow in case I had to shoot whatever it was. I have not returned to that spot and never will. I still don’t know what that was but I know it wasn’t a animal that lives in these woods. I was about 62 years old when this happened and had hunted since I was a teenager and I had never experienced anything like this before.

Okay, I have two for you. Both were told to me by family members, one from my grandmother and one from my grandmother's sister. One of them I told on Celebrating Appalachia last year, I believe. My Maw Maw told me that when she was little she and her sisters went trick or treating. When they were coming back home it was right at dusk and was just at the edge of dark. On the way they had to pass a graveyard that was up the bank beside the road. The road wasn't paved and they lived up a holler, so it was getting darker the further they went and they didn't have any source of light with them. As they passed the graveyard, my Maw Maw's younger sister went to screaming that she saw some ghosts in the graveyard. Maw Maw looked over to where she was pointing and sure enough, there were three white figures walking in single file amongst the tombstones! They all three lit out running home as fast as their legs would go! Once that got home they told their parents, but of course they didn't believe them. Maw Maw said they never knew just what it was they saw, but it scared them half to death. My Great Aunt told me of a story when she first married Uncle Roy and they moved to Alcott, WV. One night she and my uncle were woke up out a sound sleep from a weird noise. She said it sounded like somebody threw hundreds of rocks at the same time from the roof onto the back porch! It made a horrible ruckus as you can imagine, and Uncle Roy jumped up and ran to the back door to see what happened. When he opened the door to look out, there was nothing there! Not a rock, no debris, nothing! Uncle Roy went all around the house and there was nothing disturbed anywhere. They never found out what made the noise. Aunt Enola said she believed that house to be haunted because there were always strange things happening. She said one time she was home alone during the middle of the day because my uncle was at work and at the time they didn't have kids yet. She said she kept this table she used to do her ironing on, on the front porch and she heard this scraping sound go all the way across the front porch as if someone pushed that table all the way across it. At the time it had snowed and the porch was covered with snow. When she looked out she could see that the table was pushed to the other side of the porch and you could see the tracks of the table legs where it had been drug through the snow. The peculiar thing was, there wasn't any footprints on the porch, the porch steps or in the yard! So who pushed the table?! My Uncle Roy was a preacher and my Aunt Enola was a strong Christian woman and she promised all this was completely true! I guess that's three stories instead of two! Anyway, Boo! Happy Halloween! 🎃🎃🎃👻👻👻

Few years ago I lived kinda rural, houses around but most on an acre or so & not right up against me like town. My property has trees, bushes, & fenced .one day I started smelling something horrible, dead. I didn't know what it could be, didn't know if it was a person or what else!! I'm older woman and not very brave! So called the sheriff to come check out,as I'd had prowlers some. Well deputy came, looked around front of house, figured it was a small animal somewhere close. After he left I walked closer to the smell, there was a poor big possum that had gotten in the plastic trash can & couldn't get out,& it was hot weather so poor thing just sat in there and died!! I felt terrible!! Then it rained & can had water in it,I dragged aways from the house, turned it over and left it!!
Another time years ago when I was 12-13,it was warm weather and I was outside on porch playing, had porch light on. I think my brother, who was couple yrs older, was out there. Course it was real dark every where except the small porch, and a trellis with thick vines on it was beside the porch, dark beyond that. I heard a noise just to the side of the house, so I stopped singing or whatever I was doing. Then continued on,heard noises little louder so I was going to be brave and check it out!! Went to side of the house and my sister who was few yrs older jumped out at me and hollered as she grabbed me!! I screamed or made some kind of noise, tried to run back to the front door, but I collapsed, passed out!! My daddy carried me in to the front room, sat me in a chair. I was SO weak, couldn't hardly breathe!! And since I've gotten older, have heart trouble,I wondered if I had a heart attack that night! it's REALLY abusive to scare people!! Form of torture!!

Would you believe I've had TWO experiences with vehicles NOT crashing into us?! Both times, I had my two kids with me. The first time, my kids were 7 & 8, and we were driving in Denver, in a major construction area, where two interstates merged. (One was just built.) I had driven this merging lane before and thought about how dangerous it was, so I knew how the highways met and what to try to be cautious of. And this 2nd time, what I'd thought was so dangerous happened--a highway lane, merging immediately with a straight stretch of another major interstate (into its LEFT SIDE), where cars go upwards of 70 mph and where there is no shoulder to escape onto, and you just merge into existing, speeding traffic. Also, the lane that merged began connecting just after curving left, under an overpass that was impossible to see around. I drove as slowly as possible (55?), with cars "pushing" me from behind but went under and out to merge, just as a van or truck was coming to my position seemingly simultaneously. I think I squeaked out "Jesus!" (that's what I always did and taught my babies to do) and closed my eyes and held the wheel tightly, waiting for the crash. About a second passed, and I looked. There was NO LONGER a vehicle behind me, not in my lane from before NOR merging into my lane! And no vehicles were traveling in any of the 4 lanes to my immediate right! (BTW, who builds a merge lane on the left side?!) So, MY car wasn't miraculously "transported" but OTHERS HAD TO HAVE BEEN!!

You can decide if this is creepy or scary, but up front I promise you that this happened.
In 1980, I was in Navy language school in Monterey, California. One Sunday, two friends and I decided that we wanted to go for a walk on Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove right next to Monterey. A beautiful beach on the gorgeous Monterey Peninsula. Keep in mind that it was windy the day we did this and the surf was fairly high and loud. If someone was more than 5 feet away, they wouldn't even hear what we were saying.
As we were walking along I happened to notice an attractive woman who to me had an aura of mystery around her. I told my friends that her beauty and demeanor reminded me of the Mona Lisa. We lazily followed her along the beach until we came to a rock outcropping that ran perpendicular to the shore. All of a sudden she simply disappeared. We couldn't understand where she had gone, but in an effort to find her we trotted through the rocky outcropping. As we came to the other side, we looked around. Nothing. Then I heard one of my friends say, "Whoa!" in a trembling voice. I saw that he was looking down at the sand, so I did too. Written in the sand at our feet were the words, "Mona Lisa".
Still sends chills up my spine when I think about it.

When my brother was little about 8, he and my mom went to the store along this highway is a railroad track. As they were driving a big snow came up the wind was blowing. My mom saw a big shadow of a semi pass her, only there was no semi. Mom didn't say anything she thought it was her imagination but then my little brother says, mommy what was that big truck/ well mom knew then she actually saw a ghost truck. I have so many stories I could tell, our family has many. I will tell one more. When I was about 12 my cousins came to play there were 4 of us in the hallway of our trailer. I was facing my brothers room his door was open. Out of know where I see a man standing behind my cousin. I could plainly see the mans clothes they were like captains clothes the boot he had on were shiny and I started to go up from his feet to his jacket and I stopped and ran to my mom telling her there is a man of course mom went to look and there was no man. I will never forget it so frightening
