  • China's unexpected retaliation to the EU's electric vehicle tariffs has taken Europe by surprise. Instead of targeting the automotive industry, China has launched an investigation into European dairy imports, focusing on products from key countries like Ireland, Italy, and Belgium. This move, which could disrupt €1.7 billion in dairy trade, raises the stakes in EU-China trade tensions. How will this impact the European market, and what does it mean for the future of EU-China relations?

17 years ago, when China offered subsidy to car makers to make EVs, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Toyota, Ford, GM and Chrysler all rejected the offer because they thought thag EVs were just gadget toy and would soon be abandoned by the consumers. BYD, a maker of mobile phone batteries, decided to take the challenge and jumped right into EV manufacturing. It is all history. So who should you blame? If EU spending growth is less than China, there is no ground to blame China, if your spending is also less than China, what is the point to blame China? If your energy cost is much more than China, go blame your governments and politicians. If you are wasting money on wars and invading other countries instead on your own people and technologies, blame yourself because you are supporting your governments' decision. Did China invade EU countries before or EU countries invade China before? Who is actually a threat to the other one? Are you been forced to learn Chinese or English? Please open your mind and travel the world. You guys always talking about freedom of anything. You can have your own capitalism, but why force others to be the same as yours? China is weak, the right tariffs will very quickly cripple China. A look at china's military is all telling. Even with all the bits and pieces of stolen blueprints and schematics of top secret military tech China did it's very best to make fighter jets for example. And they are completely useless. America has intercepted, closed the gap and flown wing tip to wingtip multiple timed now with F 22 and F 35's completely undetected. That means China uses machine guns with line of sight targeting in their heavy back ended jet against super maneuverability and thrust vectoring. But that doesn't matter because they would be blown out of the sky without warning. Aircraft carriers😂 even worse. Is the new one still broken? They are blind as a bat under water, it's been proven. That is the result of cheating the learning process. Now, they have to learn the hard way, backwards.

China is three steps ahead of the EU strategically. Chinese expansion in specific essential industries over the last 5 years plus a culture of innovative practices means China will become less dependent on EU for some imports. Some Chinese exports have declined for its own benefit, eg, rice. As consumer spending decreases across the EU because of higher costs & taxes, unemployment is likely to go up. Germany will be hardest hit because it was dependent on Russia, eg, cheap gas & oil, & China, eg, exports of manufactured goods. This is all about the USA who have always seen Russia & China as enemies even though they are not a real threat. US is the aggressor & architect of what happens. Its self-harm on a massive scale & is bad for citizens & consumers.

The US. System of government has a major flaw: short term thinking. This is the cause of many of our problems. We have citizens who are very sharp but because of the swamp in DC these talented folks opt for staying away from DC, making some money, putting little Johnny thru school and retiring early.
I remember when US auto manufactures had an EV program way back in the 90's. They were way ahead of the Chinese and suddenly one day they destroyed an EV program called the EV1. They recalled them all, sent them to the junk yard and crushed them all😢. Looks like CEOs wanted to make more money on gas-guzzling SUVs. Now we are complaining that China represents unfair competition in EVs....and we want taxpayers to give the auto companies billions to jump start the US EV industry.
If we can tweak our system and develop national priorities that transcend the 4-year election cycle and the quarterly reporting cycle, this would go a long way in creating a foundation for competing globally.

      And I want to add
If we look at China they have enough extra land without population
      Same in India
      Same in Afghanistan
      Same in Pakistan
So why they are fighting for land
Just leave all these disputes and develop those empty areas for next generations
We all spend a lot in wars
And at this point we all know birthrate is less then past
So why we need more lands if we already have more then need

When the centers of commerce change corresponding changes in finance and innovation also change. In the 70s it made sense to offshore manufacturing to highly literate countries with very cheap labor!!entrepreneurialism is not a Western monopoly. Asia had a Silk Road before Europe had paved roads! But the world economy did shift from Asia to Europe and then America since 1840. Now the shift is back to Asia! This means that China, Japan, India, South Korea, and Indonesia are taking over the centers of commerce! This also means that the former centers will become secondary! Competition in manufacturing and trade will make it difficult for foreign Countries to compete!

As to flooding the EU with cheap products - identify them and stop importing them. Problem solved again.
Allowing EU companies to open factories in China so there products will be cheaper is as good as subsidizing. Stop all EU companies from manufacturing in China. Now who has problems😂?

I'm sorry, can you supply numbers for subsidies by "Western automakers" where EVs had grants for buyers from USA, Canada governments, so your "white voice" suggests "you don't mind" if Western EVs are susidized (battery plants in Canada have large government funding to "stoke" the EV market whish as been "over-subsidized" beyond the ordinary markets of supply and demand into an "overcapacity" that is bankrupting the auto makers, as citizens are not "rich enough" for EVs, with servicing and charging two big negatives for buyers just NOT buying. Catastrophic market failure due to MANY government interventions.

What is really hilarious is that a very large economists' study dating back 12 years was undertaken by China, Japan and S. Korea and modeled the world automotive probabilities.
It was placed in the public domain and only a few US and European economists took it seriously.
Japan wanted to concentrate on hybrid and multi-fuel solutions to transport and global warming but cooperated with China and Korea in EV licenses.
    S. Korea's prowess in light railway systems for smaller, crowded countries and areas would develop alongside its small car production inclusive of EVs.
China asserted that the only way to test growing enthusiasm for EVs was to manufacture them using several companies all receiving similar state subsidies. Only some would survive and there would be freedom to market as they chose. The main prediction was that recharging would tend to be chaotic and unsuccessful in the USA and not a single mass sector in large countries such China and Russia BUT that China had the resources and capacity to be leader in automotive batteries.
Furthermore, inherently "strong" transport power plants for railways, civil engineering would not be EV but a mix of hybrid, clean multi-fuels and especially hydrogen, which could be a byproduct of developing industries, notably fertilizers and concrete in combination with solar farms for direct hydrolysis. China and Japan's Toyota Group signed IP common laws re large scale hydrogen engines and colors of the fuel.
Germany in particular relied too much on historical (but now invalidated) repute in auto engineering, especially after the "Dieselgate" scandal and its auto industry retained supply line structures which delayed the production of 'pure' EVs. It was further hampered by its electricity supply industry being the dirtiest in Europe and the success of Kia and Hyundai EV sales in N.America caused some Chinese companies to export larger EVs ahead of the target year of 2025 and as 2024 comes to an end both the EU and USA have resorted to tariffs.
This had been anticipated but a glut of Chinese EVs will probably bring forward the Stage 2 hybrid expansion without re-tooling and being able to reduce the weight of chassis for the much lighter IC/electric hybrids.
