  • Just a quick tip video on how to install dust seal boots on your brake caliper. I struggled to find a video how to do this and found an easy way to do it so I’m sharing it with you. Nobody seemed to have any good information on this. The caliper is from a VW MK2 Polo and I’m refurbishing the brakes, but this will be the same on a lot of different car makes and models.

    This is the first video I found that shows how to get the piston seal back on after removing it. I was struggling until I found this. Thanks for posting!

    I puzzled this out myself a few years back after struggling for sometime. However, many thanks for posting.👍

    Thanks for the upload! Accidentally popped mine out while doing brakes and rotors 😅 tried to force it with a flat head and the piston all the way down.. very helpful!

    Did mine today, and was easy thanks to your video.
    I also got the repair kit from Big Red, excellent company to deal with, and quality kit.
    Thank you 👍

    It’s an absolute ball ache of thing to do especially when attached on the car still. It’s infuriating to get the seal to sit on the caliper. I really need to get the caliper off the car in the future. Great video.

    Wish I’ve seen this before I did mine this morning, I ripped both of the new dust seals ended up reusing the old ones and good thing they still work and no leaks.

      Hahah I know the feeling, I did a valve cover + spark plug tube seals replacement on a 2002 Honda CRV and nobody has any info / videos about how to put the plug tube seals around the metal tubes, so I ripped them all trying to put em on. Turns out you have to carefully push all the seals around the metal tubes individually instead of just pushing the entire valve cover on at once. (yes I used a lot of engine oil to lubricate them both times)

      It can be easy. I had one on the same caliper that was easy and one that was an hour of frustration. Hose clamped the boot lightly to the piston and that worked.

    I use this method but, when trying to get the dust boot to get in it's groove and the boot continues to slip off the piston I LIGHTLY hose clamp the boot to the piston so that it doesn't slip off. Operative word, Lightly, as you don't want to puncture the boot. After an hour of struggle, this is the only thing that worked.

      You can alternatively use electrical tape around the piston to hold it.

    What type of grease are you using to avoid the contamination of brake fluid

  • @AFFYJAMBO
    @AFFYJAMBO 8 місяців тому +3

    Was that not a silicone grease for the outer boot and not for the piston, normally red grease is supplied for piston or use clean brake fluid.

      The grease is pushed up into the boot anyway by the new seal.
