  • So we made a rope machine and created string from a 2-liter plastic bottle in our last videos. If we combine the two, what we get?-Let’s find out. With this survival hack, you can make endless amounts of strong plastic string and rope! Curious how to make a rope out of a plastic soda bottle? Using a 2 liter bottle (plastic soda bottle), a knife (or saw), and a few other items can create an awesome and effective DIY survival style bottle rope. TKOR show you EVERYTHING you need to know how to make a DIY rope. Putting together one of these plastic ropes can be time consuming and super messy! But it doesn’t have to be. Creating a DIY soda bottle rope is quite simple!
    Grant Thompson explores the rope from plastic bottle basics: the tools, where to cut, how to cut...all of it! TKOR tested the different DIY rope styles and which design delivers the best results! Not all survival gear is created equally! King Of Random has the tips, tricks and rope making secrets to creating the best bottle rope! This was one of the most practical DIY wilderness survival projects TKOR has attempted!

    PLEASE!!!! Grant, please strength test the soda ropes in a unique way to see what kind of weight they can hold, or pull, with different gauges of ropes you made. lift weights, tow a car, swing from it like a vine, etc.

      Not really.
      Tie the plastic rope to a higher quality rope, pull that through a pulley where you tie it to a weight. Keep adding weights until it breaks.
      You can also use a special clamp if you're not sure a knot will hold (although, a sheet bend should do fine).

    I know it's a bit late, but... I got a weird request: Paper Mache. I have my own recipe; 1/2 liter of water, 4 table spoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour, paper bond, make paste-soaked paper pulp with it and compress it. leave it to dry for several days or bake it to extract moisture. This thing is as strong OR stronger than wood. Don't trust me? Try it. Once dry this thing was able to withstand a machete blade to it. And if you add baking soda to it, it fireproofs it to a certain extent (it's already quite hard to set fire to, the baking soda makes it almost impossible). I did the tests by mystelf many years ago.

    • @EvilPlanetStudios
      @EvilPlanetStudios 7 років тому +2

      Uhhh... I am not sure anymore. If 4 tbsp of sugar vs 2 tbsp of flour of vice-versa. It's been quite awhile, but trust me. This thing is quite strong if you did it right. Paper paste with the paper mache paste is quite strong. Oh, and I have worked with this material for around a decade and have a whole body of work online to prove it.

      Landon Sarrett I have no idea what pycrete is. once dry this thing is basically like wood or stronger, but it is a bit sensitive to water. as it's still paper after all.

      its not very practical because UV light breaks down plastic. so if you left it outside long enough it would eventually turn brittle and break. but then again everything breaks down eventually so maybe it could be used for something.

    Now that's a new form of recycling; instead of throwing our bottles into dumps, streets, rivers and the like, we should repurpose them into rope. This way we'd also cut down not only on the litter and pollution, but also how much plant material we normally use to make rope.

    If you decide to make more of this stuff, make a separate guide, and wax the inside of the holes. The reason it wasn't sliding properly was because of the bare wood against plastic edges. Thread is round already, but the plastic "thread" is square/rectangular, and it was catching on the wood. :)

    • @dumbo800
      @dumbo800 7 років тому +6

      Then you need to use new wire. Copper becomes brittle when it is work hardened. Copper electrical wire is never hardened, and will always be soft right off of the roll.
      Copper may actually be too plastic to work right here. When it bends, it has almost no appreciable spring and immediately enters the plastic deformation part of the force/yield curve. It will probably be too ductile to gather enough tension before it pulls the shuttle forward, twisting the actual rope.
