IMPASTO - OIL PAINTING / Majestic River Red Gums // en plein air / Studio touch-ups / palette Knife
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 жов 2024
- Today I'll be painting a beautiful group of iconic River Red Gums. These trees line many of Australia's inland river systems. River Gums (eucalyptus camaldulensis) are unique trees, with each one having plenty of it's own individual character. This makes it a fantastic subject for the artist to derive inspiration from. I will be using thick oil paint and palette knifes, working direct from the subject (en plein air) and painting on a large stretched canvas. I will explain my palette knife techniques and my thoughts on composition as I go. Later on, I will do some finishing touches in the studio and explain my reasoning for this.

So jealous of your camping/painting setup. I want one just like it!!! Just amazing!!!
Thanks so much!
Dear Richard, I am an amateur painter from Chile, and your work is simply amazing and inspiring, I love your crazy skill and technique to apply the paint on the canvas, very authentic and beautiful to see!
Awesome Jorge, thank you!
Richard, according to the active color of ultramarine, the feeling of spring in general in all your canvases, although I see that the time of year is summer ..)) I love spring very much, just like you, according to my feelings ..))) The compositional emphasis is well made on a solidly standing tree, who has seen life, standing at the head of a whole group of trees, which is a wonderful example of beauty and resilience for them....)) The blue of the sky envelops peace and serenity.. The desire to live permeates this whole plot...🤩
Beautiful painting, Richard. You truly are a fantastic painter. Stay safe, I want to watch you paint for many years to come. Cheers.
Thank you, I will! Cheers George!
Just beautiful art & very Australian 😍
Much appreciated Kathy!!!
Thank you Richard...your work is amazing.
You are very welcome, Vinay, thanks!
So many beautiful, subtle colours... I just love the close ups showing the textures and varied directional strokes and smears of the knife. Those trees are amazing! Thank you!
G'day Julie, I'm glad you like!
I love being the first to comment on Richard Musgrave Evans videos. Sunday morning a cup of tea and a little bit of painting video by a very talented artist. Thank you again for your hard work and dedication!
G'day Tim, that's great mate! Glad you're enjoying my vids so much! Cheers :-)
Another gorgeous painting! You make it look so easy, but I know it is far from that. I love to watch you paint. Your process is magical. Thank you for sharing. The landscape in Australia is so different from where I live in Maine. Thank you for showing me an area of the world that I would otherwise never get to see.
Thank you Kath D! Cheers!
i love watching these scenes just materialize out of some swoops, swishes and scrapes of paint. You capture so much of the spirit of a scene that it conveys more emotional presence than any photo could capture.
Hey thanks Marvin, much appreciated!
Wow, that painting is exquisite. You are on a roll on fire as you are getting better and better
Thank you so much for sharing but also for taking me back to the banks of the Murray river
Thank you very much! It's a great place :)
Tak bym tam chciała być ,zobaczyć to wszystko duszą!👍❤️🥰🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Your an artist in your painting as well as your videos. I’m grateful. 👍🏻
Many thanks!!!
Hello Richard! I always enjoy watching your work and try to learn from you. I have already managed to paint one big picture using a lot of paints and large palette knives, almost the same as yours, however, I painted in the studio. In the future, I intend, like you, to go to the open air with large canvases, like you. Thank you for your lessons!
Nice work! Happy Painting!!!
What a fun painting the finished painting looks better than the real scene and has interest .I love that rig / setup too!
Hey thanks Ocean, much appreciated!
Another beauty Richard! And the location takes my breath away!
Glad you enjoyed it Heather!

Yep. Another beauty Richard👍
Thank you Alan! Cheers!
G'day Richard, another journey of the senses and joy of nature. I think more than anything, the outback deserves an impressionistic stance. The twists of bark and limbs, the flash of keynote colours and the audacity of subtle tones amongst the shadows and light demand it. I keep learning mate. It even helps with my photography, I am seeing in a different way. Cheers, Rich
That's great CosMos Artistry! I'm happy that I'm making a difference in peoples lives and that my work is inspiring you!

Hi Stefania, thank you! I did love working with warm and cool colour combos in this painting!
I love this! My favorite landscape so far. Great video. Thanks again.
Awesome Sub Shine! Thank you!
Hi Richard, compliments on another extraordinary painting. I think the touches you made in the studio with the rigger were perfect. The whole piece is great, but the orange-y reflected light under the main branch of the gum tree in the foreground was stunning. Always look forward your videos! John, from South Florida
Hey thanks John, much appreciated! Yes, I put that highlight right near the end and it really made the painting POP! Cheers 🎨👍😊
Beautiful 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😊
Another beautiful painting Richard! I was feeling low and this was perfect therapy! I very much liked your painting 'in the field'. Thank you again for a wonderful video. Jill R, UK.

Thank you too!
I paused at the 33:05 mark to refill my coffee.. That would be a wonderful composition also.. Once again Richard, a beautiful painting.. Ty!
Thanks Robert, I'll check the one you mean out! Cheers!
@@richardmusgrave-evans9886 I may paint that also if I may. Ill do it in watercolor and then the oils
@@robertfredrickson960 No worries mate!
Another beautiful piece Richard, love watching a master at work. It's delightful how you capture the light and shade to give the painting that dappled feeling.Have to say though I had to flick back and forward from the footage live and the painting back in the studio, because it looked totally different in the studio. I'm guessing it is the different angles and lighting that the painting is viewed in that alters the perception slightly, but Its brilliant well done.
Glad you enjoyed it Jeff, thanks and yes the different camera angles do make the painting look a little different! Cheers.
Knowing when to stop
Avoiding that stroke that ruins the piece is the key
I love the colour , the expression, the peace
Exactly! Cheers :-)
Absolutely love this, the spontaneity, the colours, are all amazing. What i find difficult in painting a scene is seeing the colours that you obviously see. Is this planned? Do you consciously decide on what colours and complementary colours you are going to use before hand? Australia is on my bucket list, when it is safe to do so. Thanks Richard for sharing!
Thanks! I find if I look hard enough, I see colour everywhere!🎨🎨🎨
Brilliant.
Thank you!!!
Is your beard real? Your art is so mesmerizing and so fresh! I can smell fresh Air! thank you for smiling.
😊 thank you, lol, it is real!!! Cheers :)
Hi there, just amazing. I have a question, did you always paint the way you are doing now ,
from Montreal Canada. Thank's
Thanks! I slowly developed these techniques over time!
Many thanks...how long does a painting like this take to do before the studio work. It must be a battle with the changing sun and shadows, but you master it... Bill
Thanks Bill, up to two hours I would say! As you said the light moves to much after that!
wow that's fast, I would love to have that skill... great watching your videos, i learn a lot, hope you don't mind.. @@richardmusgrave-evans9886
Amazing friend
Thank you! Cheers!
@@richardmusgrave-evans9886 thanks to you are welcome friend, nice picture
May I ask something? Do you edit your videos yourself?
I haven’t seen you clean your palette. I save all the mixed paint that’s left and put it on the next palette as a chromatic grey. Sometimes it’s used and sometimes it isn’t.
Anything that is pure pigment, I put back in the tins before it starts to set!
👍👍👍
Thanks Makc!
✋👍👏
Thank you! :-)
what is the name of the final music?
'Falls' by Keith Kenniff
