Although the Quincies are undoubtedly the stronger faction I always liked the Espada more. Almost all of them had a story of their own that could have been told. Indeed. What also makes them notable is that some happily go rogue for their own whims regardless of consequences from Aizen. It's a stark contrast to the extreme obedience displayed by the Quincy, then again Yhwach was willing to pop their heads for even very trivial incidents so I guess that explains it.
One curious aspect not explored with the hollows and espada is that they're all humans in origin. At least, if I remember correctly, hollows were human souls that didn't rest after death. I think it could have been interesting to know about who they were as humans and how that affects who they are now as hollows.
The thing is that it's quite different in the case of the Espada, since they all used to be a Menos, which are pretty much the fusion between tons of Hollows, and even after they developed their own personality as an Adjuchas or a Vasto Lorde, they are pretty much a brand new different being from all the other beings that merged into them.
1:06:22 that's probably wrong, it's stated earlier in the series, I think with the formation of the Tres Bestias and Apachi's introduction, is where it's mentioned that female hollows exist but are rarer and are targets for male hollows
With the case of Yami, i think it is fitting to what Kubo is trying to emphasize in his story. In Bleach raw power and strength levels is less relevant than other in shonen stories. He mocked this greatly with nr. 0 Yami who's was the strongest most powerful of them al in terms of brute strength, yet incapable and not worth showing his final fight. And he puts a lot of emphasis to the overall capabilities of the fighters but also on certain rules and mechanics that make some fights really interesting to witness. And in the end it is the inherit flaws that kills the character, or they overcome their flaws and become stronger. Thanks for this Video it made me relive and appreciate the story once more.
Shunsui killed the strongest arrancar with his SHEKAI, while the other captains (besides genryusai) struggled against weaker arrancars while using bankai Absolute mad lad
I'm spanish and I've never heard of a praying mantis being called santateresa. The usual name in spanish is "mantis religiosa" but it seems that's a real synonim. Santa Teresa, written as separate words, is in fact more like Saint Theresa, so, a religious figure. That said, given noitra's design it's likely the mantis definition is the one kubo used, though his use is spanish is always weird.
I have this gripe as well with the translation. It sucks because in my mind praying mantis should translate literally to mantis rezando. I'm sure Kubo probably got it wrong in translation off some website and ran with it.
@@LeRodz no I'm doing a literal word for word translation. For example praying = rezando and mantis = mantis. But in Spanish mostly everything is reversed so it would be Mantis Rezando.
Someone also made a connection in Loly and Menoly being loli versions of Nnoitra and Tesra, complete with eye patches and similar personalities and hair styles
U could voice act btw. I cant force myself to remember your channel name as often as I want but I can recognize your voice instantly and it seems unique and stern
For me it's Grimmjow, Barragan, Ulquiorra, Starrk, Halibel, Nnoitra, Zommari, Aaroniero, Szayelaporro, Yammy, Luppi. Not including Nel because she was a former Espada.
Yes, but Starrk had to enforce that Solitude. He couldn't be around anyone without them dying so the only option was distancing himself from possible companions. That lead to loneliness. In a world like Hueco Mundo, having no comrades is basically torture
The fucking quality of the TYBW anime, it's ASTOUNDING. This is proof that fans will wait as long as it takes and something can succeed regardless of how long it takes to release, because everyone would rather have quality over quantity, and this was worth the near decade long wait
1:14:50 what translation of the poem were you using - since it doesn’t match the English translation on screen/from the manga. Your own translation? I liked parts of it better than the one on screen.
It ould be awesome if we could have seen more of the interactions of these characters prior to their introduction and specially prior to Aizen's arrival at Hueco Mundo
Since they're doing the hell arc, which I'm hoping isn't adapted from the movie... I feel like Grimmjow But should be an anti-hero of sorts where sometimes he fights with Ichigo and friends and other times He's fighting against Ichigo. Because his character is so complex it's hard to see him as a full villain. Plus lots of villains end up turning into anti-heroes along the way so I think this could be a possible outcome
Santateresa is not praying mantis in Spanish. I'm aware that some sites show this but it's incorrect and I assume Kubo got it wrong too. Mantis religiosa is praying mantis in Spanish even though the word religiosa is the feminine of being religious and not praying which is "Orando or Rezando". Praying mantis should be Mantis Rezando technically. Still Santa Teresa is simply Saint Teresa.
1:23:45 I could see him being beaten by Soi Fon. Wasp vs Mantis, both using underhanded tactics, being killed by a woman, plus with their opposing natures, it would feel justified
If it wasn’t for the Death Dealing, Grimmjow could have taken out Askin. Power wise, I think the Espada are stronger than most Sternritter, but the Sternritter have all the hax
An idea I've had plays off of the theme of penitence, either manifesting or transferring Kira himself into a horrifying personification of the opponent's "crimes" which would be their past victories in combat. Their prior defeated opponents would render judgement and take their pound of flesh in a short of eye-for-an-eye, flashing and disemboweling the opponent, taking the bloody scraps of viscera and information it back into their own mangled corpse until they are made whole. Of course, there is no making whole the taking of life, so perhaps there is no end to the amount of gore and the price in flesh demanded, and each time part of the opponents body is taken, the bankai grows stronger and the corpse monster(s) grow beyond just the shape of a dead person and into a monstrous Akira like flesh golem
2:13:10 Perhaps zaraki was one that eluded that ceremony and came back unusually powerful. Hence him being unkown. Thats the only way he wasnt sent to hel or dealt with sooner. Or just a rare twist of fate and changed a number i his reiatsu like a cosmic ray changing the number on a machine on a ballot box program making voting numbers which would be impossible, which realy happened. Russia i believe and it has happened after as well.
if you think about it if ichigo ignored everything the quincies would have wiped these dudes out in no time and ichigo would not have to do a thing but stay home.
Honestly im still salty at how Barragan died, it feels like such an ass pull and a hugely disappointing death. And yes Barragan is my favorite Espada because his power is awesome and his drip is immaculate
While I've been watching anime for over a century this list is really good but I'm a bit disappointed that KK, kill LA kill, samurai Champloo, Trigun, and afro samurai was not featured
I think the Espada were wasted potential in the world of bleach. They showed that Hollows could be more than mindless monsters, and many of them were actually more compassionate than some of the soul reapers and humans we’ve seen in the show. The circumstances of their creation was pretty interesting as they were essentially a race that evolved by consuming souls, the jump from mindless hollow to Menos grande to adjuchas and finally vasto lorde where only the most dominant ego survived is very compelling, and is a testament to hollows being essentially defined by conflict. Halibel mirrors this idea in her own world view, understanding that the world hinged off of sacrifices made, in this case the sacrifice of many other hollows. I find the adjuchas and vasto lorde class of hollows to be particularly intriguing as they have evolved enough to have a conscious mind and reason and are very human-like. With Aizen’s further tampering with the hollow race with the hōgyoku leading to the creation of the Arrancars, they can now reproduce like humans which in of itself is very interesting because it means a whole new functional race of beings could come to be in Hueco Mundo in the future which could be a source of conflict for soul society in the future. We saw that Ulquiorra was capable of evolving even further as an Arrancar with his second stage resurreccion which leads me to believe that the other Arrancars could too. Perhaps the reason the Arrancars were inevitably defeated is because their resurrecion first stage is more like a shikai in power than a bankai, and the 2nd stage is closer in power level to bankai. It leaves so much room for storytelling because hollows are essentially the antithesis of soul reapers. I think it was a waste not to utilize them more, Kubo kind of forgets about them after Fake Karakura town arc and instead focuses on the Quincies who, to be fair went underutilized for most of the show/manga as well.
I don’t think they were so much as underutilized but more that there wasn’t a place to continue developing them within the ending that kubo had planned, which leads me to believe that the next arc/continuation may have more information about them. But my real hope is that through the sister series, burn the witch, there will be more interesting/philosophical questions brought up about hollow like beings like arrancar, since the “dragons” in west branch are mentioned to be similar to hollows. I also somewhat remember there being a line by ninny that stated something like “I hear they just kill them all over on the East branch, must be easy” which leads me to believe dragons and their uniqueness and utilization was through millennia of domestication and learning the secrets of their evolution (possibly through another hogyoku like item). Also it could imply that this could have been possible in soul society as well but ideological differences about what hollow like beings should be treated as (“animals” for domestication in the West branch vs “evil” beings that should be exterminated in the East branch) may have stopped this from happening. Also it may relate to why reverse London is much more advanced than soul society/the rukongai.
2:11:30 you just explained why he lost. Your conclusion was so text book i swear it was a previous copy and paste line from half an hour ago during your explanation while ignoring your own final point. He couldnt see the flaws in his strategy because he believed it to be flawless. You say he lost because he didnt have a counter plan. Miyuri had watched him fight before hand and plot armoured a whole new game build for one specific battle he was watching at the time he was supposed to be growing all his organs legit. They werent holograms or magic organs, he grew them grom nothing. And slime boy was so sure he was perfect he did not see a weakness and counted on humanoids to not treat there subordinates like literal landmines. Who could have known. Where else expect anything with monsters eating there own party like room temperature fridge stable beef.
I know he wasn't really considered an espada. And I know that eyes and gives information on him but I can't remember for the life of me what that thing was. I do remember that head Captain Yamamoto completely Spanks it into the ground though. Lol
Against your point comparing Grimmjow to Vegeta: Vegeta doesn't accept that Kakarot is stronger than him. He isn't. That's what causes Vegeta so much anguish through the years. Vegeta has beaten Kakarot every time they've fought. No, Kakarot isn't stronger than Vegeta; he's BETTER than Vegeta. And *that* is what injures Vegeta's pride so much for so long. The low-class Kakarot is a *better warrior* than the Prince of All Saiyans. That is what Vegeta eventually accepts, too. He continues to rival Kakarot in strength, each repeatedly exceeding the other, and he even becomes a better man; but Kakarot will always be a better warrior than Vegeta. That's why he chooses not to pursue Kakarot's Ultra Instinct and instead unlocks Ultra Ego.

@@neeloreilly7163 No kid, Barragan's own power was what killed him. Hachi managed to figure that out because Barragan toyed with him long enough to give him time. Before that a Captain and Lieutenant couldn't even TOUCH Barragan and nothing Hachi had on his own could do anything against Barragan. All three of them were desperately running for their lives from him whenever he grew annoyed with them. All of them together wounded him, but all that really did was piss him off. If Barragan was serious from the start there's only two members of the Gotei 13 that could defeat him, Old Man Yamamoto and Shunsui because of their respective powers and ability. It took the combined efforts of Aizen, Gin and Tosen on top of putting Barragan under Kyoka Suigetsu to get him to bend the knee in the first place. That's something that Aizen didn't have to do for Stark or Yammy who had higher spiritual pressure than Barragan did. It's stated in CFYOW that even after time skip training and power increase that Nel, Halibel and Grimmjow COMBINED are not as powerful as Barragan was.
@@grandadmiralzaarin4962 yeah but then again a pratical leutenant not using a hollow mask had enough reiatsu to by pass barigan's. also stark is way stronger the barrigan its implied he ascended for above barrigan and that if he was determined he could of killed barrigan, oh and about the expierence he's still and idiot who thinks he was immortal. by the way with whole aizen, gin, and tosen thing one of them could have killed barrigan they weren't trying starkk went along with it and we don't know how yammy got recruited. i honestly believe barrigan is the stronger then most hollows but no pre hyoguku arrancar and wasn't a concern for any the gotei 13 other wise they would kill him. i mean even the bankai feat was one by soi fon are you going to say soi fon has the power to upscale most of the gotei 13
@@neeloreilly7163 No, it's specifically mentioned that both Hachi and all the Vizards are Captain Class level, the masks put them slightly above Captain Class to varying degrees for a short period. Hachi as a Kido Master is second only to Tessai. Hachi nor any Lt didn't 'bypass' Barragan's Reiatsu. Hachi put a barrier around the Respira affected arm to slow it, but it couldn't stop it at all. He then used the barrier to sever the arm and teleported it inside Barragan using Kido. That's not 'bypassing' the Reiatsu, it's putting an object inside someone with spatial distortion. Stark has a higher Reiatsu than Barragan so that he can casually spam energy attacks without effort but it's absolutely debatable whether he's more dangerous than Barragan or could beat him in a fight. Barragan is as fast as(or possibly faster) than Stark, his Respira and time distortion abilities paired with that speed mean he can effectively age/nullify/dodge Stark's attacks. On top of that, Respira is an absolute ability, nothing is immune to it(not even Barragan himself) anything it hits will rot away regardless of power with the only aspect being how long it takes to rot. Barragan thinking he was immortal isn't far fetched at all. Barragan is one of the original Vasto Lordes that is as old as Hueco Mundo itself. Barragan was ANCIENT when Old Man Yamamoto was still considered a 'young hero' and Barragan was ANCIENT even before Soul Reapers had Zanpakto. That makes him outside of the Soul King, Ichibei, and Ikomikidomoe one of the oldest beings in the Bleach Universe. He'd been the unchallenged God King of Hueco Mundo THAT LONG. Add to that his power is to control Aging(senescence) and it's really no surprise for a being like that to see everything and everyone else as an ant. No, we see Aizen's modus operandi for Halibel, Stark and Ulquiorra as well as explanations for Grimmjow, Szayel and Zommari. All of which involve he alone bringing them on board singularly. Barragan alone is the only one that Aizen actually took backup to deal with and he is the one that Aizen used his Shikai on almost immediately. Gin and Tosen by themselves don't have something that can counter Barragan's abilities. He was put under Aizen's hypnosis, allowing the other two to move without interference or threat and dismantle Barragan's army-who also were under hypnosis at this point. You're quite wrong about the pre Hogyoku Espada not being a threat to a Captain. All of the Espada were roughly Captain Class and some were above that. Individually they are absolutely a threat one on one to all but the Head Captain. What kept them from being direct threats seen earlier was that the Espada acted as individuals who didn't work together and kept exclusively to Hueco Mundo before Aizen's arrival. As a result, Soul Reapers almost never encountered them, but were well aware of the danger they posed. They let them be largely because they weren't invasive like lower Hollows were and the Espada seemed to have no goals outside of their own corners of Hueco Mundo before Aizen. Bankai is merely a X5 multiplier for a Soul Reaper's power. Soi Fon's Bankai didn't even TOUCH Barragan when she used it the first time on him. It was only when put in an enclosed space(which multiplies the force of an explosion by a massive amount) at point blank range that Barragan was even damaged by a full power Bankai from a Captain. Even then, it didn't impede his own ability to fight at all and just royally pissed him off. Most of the Captain's Bankai's couldn't do anything to Barragan. Gin's is a physical attack to place poison within someone-so it has to go through both Respira and the time dilation-which physical attacks are shown not to do in almost any instance, same with Kenpachi's Bankai ability, Tosen's removes sight and sound, but he still wouldn't be able to capitalize on that since his other attacks fall into the same problem as Gin and Kenpachi's. Komamura's Bankai would just get himself killed because whatever happens to it happens to him and requires physical contact, Soi Fon and Byakuya's Bankai's both are physical projectiles that would both be subject to the barrier and Respira(as we literally saw with Soi Fon's), Mayuri's Bankai is also a physical entity and it's unclear if poison even works on a being that's just a skeleton(Szayel couldn't even duplicate or counter Respira despite studying it), Toshiro's ice would age away very quickly being just a base element and himself not even being in his prime. It's unclear what Mimihagi would do since it counteracts time, but clearly has limits and Ukitake himself is frail. The only three Captains that could defeat Barragan one on one are the Head Captain Yamamoto who could erase him through sheer power, Aizen through a combination of his power and hypnosis and Shunsui due to his Bankai's unique 'Game' abilities that alter reality.
Stark is the strongest but he holds back very much. He isn't pure evil like noitora and szae. The reason why stark and shunsuis battles was not that intense and epic and destructive and boring because stark was holing back. He only used 50% of his power. If stark used all of his power he would have easily defeated shunsui. If stark fought ulqiora 100% power he would win mid diff
Honestly Barrigan is the strongest of the Espada, and 100% was made 2nd by Aizen to purely spite him. As his decaying/aging aura is extremely OP, and imo he would be stronger than Stark if they were to fight.
There’s so much more to these characters than I initially thought. It really goes to show how deep a lot of them were with their themes and stories. Ironic how Aizen viewed them as worthless yet they have such developed motivations and histories that make them pretty human

All except Ulquiorra that is. He was a Hollow born out of Hueco Mundo
@@GaeaRage0798not entirely true iirc. Menos are a fusion of hollows yes, but for them to evolve one personality has to come out on top.

Sound about right to me
Shunsui killed the strongest arrancar with his SHEKAI, while the other captains (besides genryusai) struggled against weaker arrancars while using bankai
Absolute mad lad
stark wasn’t even trying and wanted to die
@@rainfn6641 Starrk assuredly did not want to die, but it’s undeniable that he wasn’t trying to kill anyone.
Starrk and Grimmjow are the coolest ones also Nnoitara was cool but in a twisted manner
Anti-feminist espada 😂
You guys call them by their full scientific name?
@@LeRodz no I'm doing a literal word for word translation. For example praying = rezando and mantis = mantis.
But in Spanish mostly everything is reversed so it would be Mantis Rezando.
in Spain Mantis Religiosa is not very often called Santa Teresa, who was a praying religious woman.
they also called "insecto de santa teresa" that is why kubo only uses santa teresa
Yessss more content!!!! 😁 thanks bro!!!💯
I wish we saw more of Starkk, very underutilized character.
The espada arc was so old,I still remember when dota is still a thing and we played FOC arcade in the original dota
I really love Beach for it's characters!!
Someone also made a connection in Loly and Menoly being loli versions of Nnoitra and Tesra, complete with eye patches and similar personalities and hair styles

My Ranking of the Espadas from favorite to least favorite:

4. Barragan
5. Nnoitra
6. Szayelaporro
7. Aaroniero
8. Halibel
9. Starrk

I think that Solitude is not really that bad and its very different than loneliness.
I agree you can be Solitary but not feel lonely and you can be surrounded with friends and family and still feel deep loneliness.

Yes, but Starrk had to enforce that Solitude. He couldn't be around anyone without them dying so the only option was distancing himself from possible companions. That lead to loneliness. In a world like Hueco Mundo, having no comrades is basically torture
@@strikingsarcophagus yeah, i agree with that.

I just hope the hell arc allows Starrk to come back

There might be a video about this already but how would the espada do against the sternritters? Or are they just at a different league all together?
If it wasn’t for the Death Dealing, Grimmjow could have taken out Askin. Power wise, I think the Espada are stronger than most Sternritter, but the Sternritter have all the hax
I'm personally interested who is stronger among these three - Yammy, Mask de Masculine or Meninas McAllon?

Perhaps zaraki was one that eluded that ceremony and came back unusually powerful. Hence him being unkown.
Thats the only way he wasnt sent to hel or dealt with sooner. I am sure if not for Aizen, Shunsui would have probably offered Starkk a glass of saki to which Starkk would have oblidged.

What if stark is in the world of the living hiding out to avoid fighting again after faking his death
He's #1 because he looks like aizen
Anime 101 if two bad guys show and one is huge and talks allot and the second is small and quiet be afraid of the small one every time.
It's number 1 espada, not primera espada. Tiburon's release command is "hunt", not "destroy"
Primera means first in Spanish
I wish Starrk comes back

@official_dbzimran 😂

Huh. Starks old form was probably before he became an Arrancar.
I miss the espada. They all had style. The stermritter are just crazy
PS: Ulquiorra and Baraggan are the only Espada worthy of the name. Not many opponents would be able to over-come Baraggan 1v1.

Human backstory of the arrancar would be cool huh? Imagine us as we are b4 hollow & espada... & failed religion?
“Goku has never beaten Vegeta” is what should’ve been said. All of their fights were inconclusive no matter who had the advantage near the end.
In my way I which that grimmjow gets a second sword release
All he wanted was company but when he had company (aizens group) he stayed alone, wut?
Sounds kinda crazy, but that damn halibel; impregnated first aroncar and soul reaper offspring. On part with ichigo by all means. Sexy ass, loyal ass, spirit. On me she would have been smash
They weren't both calories one of them was a coward and the other one was a Savage😂 only one of their heads show cowardice throughout and only and the time of death to both show fear and it's a different type of fear from each when is blatantly being a coward and calling for eizen the other one is telling that had to shut up and cursing his situation and cursing rukia like A LOT
I think barragan because he has his own kingdom and before he die he can't even touch aizen poor barragan
I think ulquiorra will be the strongest cause he had a 2nd form.
Barragan should have been the Primera. As old as he was and how broken his ability, he should have been on Yamamoto's level.
Yeah but hes sucks and could be one shooted by pink haired santa
Barragan the goat 🥶🥶
I like stark but I don’t think he strongest I have barigan and ulqiora above him
Stark is the strongest but he holds back very much. He isn't pure evil like noitora and szae. The reason why stark and shunsuis battles was not that intense and epic and destructive and boring because stark was holing back. He only used 50% of his power. Honestly Barrigan is the strongest of the Espada, and 100% was made 2nd by Aizen to purely spite him. As his decaying/aging aura is extremely OP, and imo he would be stronger than Stark if they were to fight.
