After 15 years of heavy drinking and heavy smoking...i quit both, cold turkey, the day i found out my wife was pregnant. That was 5 years ago.
Yeah, it's been a long 5 years...but definitely worth it.

I ended up in Urgent Care on a nebulizer because I had a bronchial spasm from smoking one day at work (had been smoking for 6 or 7 years at that point). My grandmother was also dying of emphysema. I ended up spending a year with at nicotine patch on me to keep from withdrawing (I was a chain smoker). It was fucking brutal. A lot of why I smoked was because I was addicted to alcohol, had PTSD and generally treated my body like shit.
Lost 60lbs. Been sober for like 5 years, smoke free for about 10 years. Did bodybuilding, raced ironman, ultramarathons, competed as a weightlifter, traveling, etc.
Life is better when your not a slave to any substances.

I quit smoking in March of 1996 and never looked back. I was heavily addicted also. A pack a day easy. I was that guy that if he ran out of smokes after store hours, was fishing through the ash tray looking for unfinished butts. NASTY. I was in my 20's. I tried patches and gum but they didn't work. What worked for me was a trick of my mindset. Thinking of NEVER smoking again was WAY too overwhelming for my addicted brain. So I literally took it one hour at a time. I said to myself in the morning - "I'm not going to smoke until lunch time today" and I did that. Then the next day I said "OK, today I'm not going to light up until after dinner". Then I finally made it to "I'm not smoking until tomorrow. I'm not saying I won't EVER smoke again but just today I'm not." By doing that , days turned into weeks then months and it became a competitive game with myself, a challenge. I said to myself, "Wow I haven't smoked in 24 hours, lets see if I can do 48. All the while telling myself I'm not committing to NEVER smoking again. I also had a goal of lifting weights to get to, which I felt like the biggest hypocrite for exercising as a smoker. Great video man! Congrats!

Video lecture version on YT as well.
    My own way:
    1. Get an ecig
    2. Then only snus
    3. Use snus for a few mins & take it out
    4. Use for a few mins every 1/2 hour
    5. Use for a few mins every hour
    6. Use for a few mins every 2-3 hours
    7. Stretch it out to once a day
    8. Every other day...& so forth
    9. Walking is the #1 anxiety remedy
For the transition AVOID these high risk triggers!!!
    1. Caffeine - will cause anxiety asf
    2. Alcohol - erodes all resolution
    3. Arguments - leaves you ungrounded
Avoid for 3 days minimum to 1-3 weeks while complete detoxing.

      The Buon Life
Portioned chewing tobacco in mini "tea-bags" placed under a lip, processed so there's no need to spit.
Popular & originated in Sweden, out for some time, kept in a mini fridge, available @ most Chevrons & Shells. Many major US brands offer them too, such as Camel & Copenhagen.

I switched to vaping. It's better of course, but I'm still addicted to the nicotine, which is kinda sad. I will do an effort to quit soon though. First I have to pass my exams, then an effort will be made!

Cool vid bud. I quit after almost 20 years for past 5 years now, I just moved towns away from my old mates and stopped. I still miss it through, when I walk past a smoker with a lit dart all the good memories come flooding back. If the zombie apocalypse was on, with not much to lose I’d probably go back ...

I was a social smoker in my early 20s. I never became addicted, but I still enjoy the smell of tobacco. Every now and then I may enjoy rolling tobacco (Drums) or a Cuban cigar, like once a year at the most.

I think the most important thing is to ask yourself if you like to smoke, just smoke.. if you don't like it, stop it. I stopped smoking like that. I know its very easy to say.. but srsly guys try it and enjoy your life on your own rules ; )

I used to smoke in social situations, and/or if I had a drink. Did it for a couple of decades, mainly because it was part of the culture of the crowd I was hanging with (I didn't start because of peer pressure, but because I chose to). Then I faced the reality of the situation, knowing how stupid of an idea it was. I no longer hang with that crowd. Now I'm into fitness (running, weights, etc.) and health, so I'm glad I dumped cigs, and booze is not part of my life. So glad you quit. You have so much going for you to wreck your health with cigs.

Cigarettes are nasty, but I like to enjoy a cigar or a pipe occasionally. I hate how cigarette smoking has put a bad name to all smoking, because not all smoking is that bad (cigars and pipes that are not meant to be inhaled etc.). I'm not addicted to nicotine, because I can go weeks without smoking anything, but I'm definitely addicted to the habit of relaxing with a cigar or a pipe and I see nothing wrong with that.

Well, you can get mouth/gum cancer/diseases or teeth rot and halitosis from cigars and pipes. I worked for the American Cancer association for a few years. I can tell you I seen some shit! And you DO get nicotine even if you don't inhale. I suggest quitting.

15 years for me too! 2004 - was using the patch. What did it for me was a week long sailing course. I breathed in the fresh air as though I was smoking, but focused on learning.
Thereafter, I would accompany my smoking co-workers outside for a smoke break and just breathe.
I found a hard break, refocused energy, and redefining the rituals altogether made the difference.
It can be done and much respect to those that are trying!

Yes. because of the amount of oxygen your muscles need for their recovery, it is less, therefore your muscle development will be less and the recovery time will be longer and so a chain begins because, due to the lack of recovery, you decrease your ability to do exercise routines complete or well executed. and also in general the toxins of the cigarettes are an important part so that your muscular development is smaller believe me it has happened to me

I smoked for 15 years too. I decided that enough was enough so I picked a day that would be my last day of smoking. I sat in a park and smoked all the cigarettes I had left in my pack. I smoked that last one right down to the filter, stomped it under my shoe, and that was it; I quit cold turkey and haven't had a cigarette since. That was 8 years ago. The difference between you and me though is that when I smell a cigarette, it doesn't disgust me. I start salivating and crave one so badly. So for me anyway, I feel like it's once a smoker, always a smoker. I just have to force myself to never fall into temptation and do it again. I'm glad it's not that way for you.
