In 2007, Rylee Preston's family friend, SPC Justin Rollins, was killed in Iraq while serving our country. Inspired by Justin's Story Rylee began writing the lyrics to what would become, "Soldier's Light".
In Justin's memory, and the many Americans like him who gave their lives for our freedom, Rylee wants to build a memorial that will incorporate a light "forever lit" to remember the fallen and to honor all who have served. Dedicated to all our armed forces, all who have served.

Rylee, Although it looks like this has been out for a while, I just found it and wanted to say thank you, it touched me deeply and this Veterans day I will make sure it is part of my annual salute to my friends and those who served. But more importantly, those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you, ot was amazing.
Thank you for your service Bob and thank you for your kind words.
Damn right brutha

This is beautiful Rylee...
Sarge wow
They say Marines don't cry. But coming from a Marine who misses his wife and daughter your song bought a tear to my eye.
From a soldier to a Marine thank you safe guarding the U.S.
❤️🫂🥲🍻 We'll Cry Together
Marines feel like crying sometimes, I know I do.
Just cuz you're a marine doesn't mean you don't have any feelings, and sometimes play come out whether you want them to or not.
Thank you for keeping us safe! We appreciate all of our military members!
Awhile back UA-cam chose to include my video in one of their mixes. I am humbled, and grateful. I consider this "an amazing compliment" to the heart and hard work that went in to 'Soldier's Light' and as an unknown artist. Although this "thank you" may never reach them, I still want to express my gratitude and what this has meant to me. Being included with the amazing songs, and artists, in this mix is again truly humbling. Thank you UA-cam and G+ :) Rylee.
Rylee Preston if you don't mind me asking was Justin Rollins related to you

No thank you if you hadn't done what you did we would never have seen you there and UA-cam would never have included you so it takes two to tango and you're one of the two Tango partners, I hope this makes sense to you I'm using voice to text my hands do not work, not well at least, you are truly amazing.
Bravo, young lady. You've got this old Veteran in tears. Wonderful song and a beautiful voice.
thank you for serving our country
Thank you for supporting Veterans. ❤️
Thank you for your service.
Jerek S Thank you for your support. This means a lot to me.
Me too and I have only cried twice since I came home from Vietnam
I'm an Iraq War Veteran. I wanted to say Thank You Rylee for being an inspiration.

Steve Salinas thank you for your service! ❤
I'm a British veteran but the story, heartbreak and sentiment is the same. Great Song young lady. Thank you for sharing it with us grizzly old vets, who lucky enough, came home.
I want to join the army iv just gone Into year eleven and went to qpd army barracks for my work experience and I hope I can do vets like u proud and lead the legacy of vets with the new generation
Today is the 1st time I've heard this song. Rylee you have moved me to tears, it blows me away a young lady your age has this kind of compassion for our troops and the brothers we lost. While bringing back some pretty painful memories it is comforting knowing we are not forgotten. Many of us live everyday with much pain long after the battle field has fallen silent. There are not words to express my feelings of appreciation for your compassion. Thank you very much.
+Warren Chambers Thank you for your service and sacrifices and thank you for such kind words :)
I'm a daughter of a Vet, I hear him pace a lot and cry. I love him to death. my brothers are all deployed and I listen to this song a lot because it give me comfort. Thank you so very much for your service.
Hi Warren Chambers, my name is Kyndal. I am a big fan and a big supporter and prayer warrior of the troops!! Hey Warren, hope you won't mind if I tell you this, I would just like to tell you "Thank You" for your wonderful service to our country, your service to our country is very much appreciated.
Grace Cooper hope they come home safe
I stand for the flag, I kneel for the cross
and cover your heart with your hand, for both.
And I served in the Marines during Vietnam so you can kneel for the cross and stand for the flag. I also served so those who kneel at the flag, have the right to peacefully protest even if it offends people.
I hear you I do the same. I am a Marine I fought for the flag and I do kneel at the cross. USA.. SEMPERFI

Can you imagine if every 15 yr old had this much respect for our military and all they do for us? This world would be in much better hands. Thank you. I have a son in the military and cannot wait to send this to him.
The only ones who do have family who are military. They know the pain of the wait.
I'm 15 an since I was 7 I always respected our soldiers more then my self I don't have a single family member who was a soldier but right as I have nothing to lose I'll join the military

I sure do
I am a veteran who served between 2014 -2018 and I found this creed called the veterans creed.......
The Veterans Creed
I am a veteran
I have seen and done things that many will not understand
I am a warrior
A member of a team spanning the world.
I have served my country and now stand by to serve my brothers and sisters in arms
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit

Thank you for your service, I ended up getting out of the military 100% disabled after 3 years of serving so I can raise our daughter while my husband serves, he’s been in for almost 8 years and he sacrifices so much for us to be able to provide for us. It’s definitely hard some days but I’m grateful for the military service members that have served and are currently serving.

I came across this song today and it brings me to tears. It reminds me of my Marines friend/brother Cpl Rodd who passed away July 30, 2020 during a training exercise when the amphibious vehicle sank with him and 6 other Marines and 1 Sailor still inside. My Marine son called to let me know he was okay, Incase I had heard about the accident. I could hear in his voice that something was wrong. He proceeded to tell me about the accident and that one of his good friends was one of the Marines who went down with the amphibious vehicle. My heart broke for all the families who got that dreaded knock on the door that every military family fears. But it broke my heart even more when my Marine told me Cpl Rodd had a newborn son that will never know his daddy. I wanted to bust out in tears but I knew I had to be strong for my son who was hurting. As a mom you want to take that pain away but you learn being a military mom especially a Marine mom that all you can do is listen and be there for them day or night. There’s not a day that goes by that my Marine doesn’t think about his friend, his friends newborn son and the brothers he lost that day.
Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice Rest In Peace Marines and Sailor 🇺🇸

“Every soldier served not for fame
He served for his country
But most importantly his friends and loved ones”

NateTheGamer Bomb Semper Fj
NateTheGamer Bomb amen brother. Thank you for understanding. I’m a Marine and I’ve seen many fathers and mothers who have died
I would re-evaluate their reasoning for doing so.
You say they gave so much for us and what we do, could you be a little more specific? Don't soldiers just follow the orders they are given, doesn't matter what country or theatre of operations they are in. You are not given the reason for your service, you are just told it is for the protection of your freedom. How do you think our freedom was threatened by the war in Viet Nam? Now that we are out of there, their country has prospered and is even now a tourist attraction. Was that what we were fighting for there? To keep that from happening, as we are not profiteering from the result? Do you even know what that war was about? You may call the dislikes a disgrace, I call it being rational. You need to get the big picture, and quit believing everything you are fed by your government. They are mostly liars and pompous politicians who vote on their own pay raises while watching sons, fathers sisters, mothers, aunts, uncles, march off to do their bidding while they sit back and rake in all the money war generates. They could give a crap about who does it as long as it isn't them. It's Semper DIE, not Semper Fi...
@@mrx1278 actually the Vietnam war was not initiated by the US. North Vietnam, a communist government declared war against south Vietnam a democratic republic. The US was in Vietnam to provide support to the South and ultimately lost the war. You're right soldiers do follow orders but if it were not for those soldiers following orders, there would be nothing in the way of another country declaring war against us and winning. That country would likely impose on the freedoms we have today. Did you know that in most communist countries, you can be executed simply for speaking I'll of the government?
Sorry, I'll stand behind the United States military and government long before I'll put my life and liberty in the hands of a foreign communist nation.
@@TheOGAZDev Yes Josiah, I understand your point of democracy. That is not the issue here though. What is the issue are the 47000 sons daughters husbands and wives that were killed because of religious differences in a country half a world away from our democracy. Catholicism, vs.Confucianism. That was the issue and has been for thousands of years in that country. How is it that our political leaders thought we have any business in the religious wars of other countries to start with? How is that relevant to OUR democracy? I say fix what we have here, and we do have our own problems democracy or not, before we go out and try to solve 30,000 year old problems in other countries. When we are actually attacked by another country, and are put into the position of having to defend what is OURS, then I would be willing to fight, but not for some religious differences which are pure crap anyway. We are not Romans, and should not be trying to manipulate the world to our points of view, or conquer more territories for our exploitation. I say leave others to their tribal wars, stop providing weapons to others that eventually will be turned on us while in these countries. Most of all give the world its right to their own religious freedoms like you enjoy here. Or just be hypocritical, and feed the worlds manic war machine....

one of the hardest thing i have ever done in my life , was to kiss my wife and kids goodbye . the tears in the there eyes and the sounds of them crying as i walked away. god bless this young lady, thank you
My fiance is a Seargent major in the army and he gets a tattoo with the name and the rank of men that he has lost when he get front deployment he needs to have five to his sleeve in honors of his brothers and sister he had losr
What's going to happen when his arms are no longer available because they're too full up, I'm just asking because I know somebody who had them on his back, he was afraid he wouldn't have enough room on his arms. When I met that soldier and we got to talking I remember asking him and please bear in mind this is more than 30 plus years ago are you going home when you finish your tour of duty and he said he wasn't certain, he told me rather quietly he didn't want to leave anyone behind, at first I was confused because at the time I always thought that leaving somebody behind was if they were wounded or something I didn't quite understand what he was getting that until he explained it to me that he didn't want to leave the rest of the soldiers in his group I say group because right now I don't have the proper words I'm handicapped I have a little brain damage which means I'm losing and losing ways of expressing myself and because my hands don't work I use voice to text and it doesn't always right things the way I would like it. After we finish talking and I told him I would keep him in my thoughts and prayers I remember thinking that I hope they all go home and not in a body bag I hope they all go home so he doesn't have to put any more names on his body. I never saw the soldier again, like I said it's been over 30 years I hope you made it home safe and I hope the guys in his unit made it home safe too, by the way that was the first Gulf War... I have lived through two Wars and now a third one I watched a lot of Americans go home the first Gulf War and the second one too, watched a lot of Israelis leave as well in fact it was a joke about that just remember to turn off the lights if you're the last one out of Ben gurion, Ben Gurion is the name of the airport not sure it got the name right or I can't tell if it's writing this at all right but never mind. Is that I've been here a long time and going back is not an option anymore too many accidents that have paralyzed me and I can no longer fly because of it I'm technically a quadriplegic an incomplete quadriplegic so I hope your fiance doesn't have to put any more names on his arm. My wish for him and for all those like him is that there will be truly piece on this world and those who are violent and caused all this strife will just disappear, so soldiers can go home so the meaning of the sentence they will beat their swords into plowshares as the translation to english will be just that no more wars or conflicts or anything else that somebody has to take up arms in order to defend.
@@safiremorningstar thank you so much he had five to add when he gets home from this deployment

they are commies or stupid socialist that haven't lived in countries that support their policies
@@nowool1 Sure, like me who has lived in England with an NHS because free healthcare is communism but free police is a right? Like I said, there are many left leaning soldiers and many right leaning soldiers, all of them love their country and all would die for it if necessary. Far left and far right are both idiots, Biden and his lack of support in Afgan is disgusting, so is Trumps with the Kurds and the build up that lead to this disaster. If you would like a civilised debate on the subject with a moderate centre left Englishman, I'd happily oblige, but do not reduce yourself to insults with words you don't understand. The EU, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand's most right politicians are still left of the average Democrat, but we are barely the USSR, PRC, or DPRK. Have you ever lived in a country with any of these policies? I'm not saying of course that all left wing policies are right but some might be. Further people supported a literal attempted lynching on the VP for executing his constitutional function, that sounds quite unpatriotic. As an outsider I find the same for the CSA battle flag, like they literally fought the union but still. For the record I love my country and the greatest respect for anyone who serves for her or any of her allies. Doesn't mean I can't want to improve it as well.
A soldier doesn't fight because he hates the people he's killing. He fights because he loves the people he's protecting.
I've never heard that before it is a nice way to see it.

There aren't too many things in this world that can move me to tears. The birth of my daughter definite tear jerker moment. Burying soldiers I served with. I can watch soldier family reunions all day long and be reduced to just an emotional pile skin. From the bottom of this old Army dogs heart and soul Rylee, absolutely beautiful song. I would give it all up right now to have just one of my brothers back. Keep that daughters love and patriotism burning brightly. I'm honored to have been able to hear this.
Thank you for your service, RESPECT! and thank you for the kind words. :)
Anthony Gore Truly beautiful words. Its nice to see a man can talk about real emotions. Thank you for your past service. Sorry you lost some of your fellow soldiers
Laura Armand A song like this brings the emotions and memories rushing to the front of your brain like a bullet train no matter how hard you try block it. For a long period of time I refused to talk about things because if I didn't talk about it then I could pretend things didn't happen, if that makes any sense to you. It wasn't until a buddy of mine killed himself and I was tooling around UA-cam for a song to dedicate at his memorial and I stumbled across this song. I just couldn't stop the tears.
If you don't like this then you missed the point. Can you imagine that the one person who means more to you than life itself will never come home again? Probably not because it's clear that the one person is yourself! I lost two friends a long time ago in a place called DaNang due to a 122 millimeter rocket getting a little to close, I will carry their memory with me to the grave.
I've lost platoon members also, but it doesn't make me thing it was for freedom. Nope it was because our leadership lied about the actual causes for their arrogance. I live with the memories also, but I have put it into perspective and stripped the curtain of fighting for freedom away from the actual causation of war.
Well young lady you have made a decorated veteran from across the pond weep. You are a real ray of sunshine and I thank you for your lovely tribute. We will remember them. 😢
All 1 thousand of you who disliked this haven't felt the pain of losing someone in the military

This is so true. God bless. My papa died from cancer after the Vietnam war. He got gassed with agent orange. I went to the hospital that he was in and watched him dying in pain. He did 5 days before Christmas.😭😭😭
Truth... I lost my dad in the army 3 days ago

An amazing tribute to all Veterans. One Veteran to all Veterans....Thank you all for your Service
That piano nearly killed me in the beginning. So many of us gave up so much. Not all those we left behind supported us. The pain I speak of is on another level no soldier deserves... but many know it anyway.
You leave that light on, we carry your torch with us. Thank you ma'am.
God bless each and everyone of them
Thank you for all your sacrifices! We support all of you, thank you so much!
Rylee thank you so much for this song. Every time I hear it I think of my son. he died in an I.E.D. explosion in Afghanistan two weeks after I retired. I keep a light burning 24/7 for him.
+Chris Madden So sorry for your loss, never forgotten.
Ps I love your voice
+Rylee Preston any chance we could get the lyrics
I just cried when i saw this comment. I am so sorry xx Prayers for u and your family
+Rochelle X cry only tears of joy. I spent the weekend with three of his buddies and found out he saved thirty five people the day he died. he's more of a hero and man than I will ever be
As an Infantry NCO with 3 deployments I'm reluctant to admit this, but this damn amazing tribute brings me a little tear every time. I'm thankful for the reminder that my brothers & sisters can have life & love waiting for them back in the world!
Hey winter its okay to admit that. You don't have to be tough every single day. Its okay to show tenderness and emotion. After all you are human. Thank you personally for all you do to keep me safe and free. Your my hero always
Welcome home.
I spent 8 years in the 82 airborne the world has gotten to be a ugly place 8 years not worrying about what color a man was we were brothers no matter what
@@groverjackson8017 Thanks Airborne! I was with 1-505th, 82nd abn from 2006-2010. Best years of my 6 total service time!
KNOX is a proud military name. From Maj. General Henry Knox to my Dad and brothers, we all served as a family. Dad (28 yrs), Jon (30+ years) and my other brother each did tours and out. We were all Special Ops (I was Special Forces-Green Beret). My Oldest brother SOF had 3.5 tours in Viet Nam, 16 years in combat zones, and 26/30 years in SOF. We have come to the end of the male bloodline. We may be old now, but we still can fight. God Bless our new generation of warriors. May you have the strength to carry the torch, and the intelligence to do it with common sense. Amen.
You think you can give some examples of what freedoms you and your family have brought to the world? You use that term rather loosely and it kind of sounds like you swallowed the propaganda that most soldiers swallow before laying their lives down for the financial gain of major corporations that run the USA. I almost feel sorry for you mate.....
@@mrx1278 Don't feel sorry for me because of your failures. I stopped the man beating his wife. We stopped many groups who had explosives in their backpacks who were intent on blowing up malls and churches. I pulled a 17-year-old girl out of an abusive home where her value was based on her sexual performance and slave labor. So Mr x, you need to ask yourself why you have not gotten involved? What have you done to help your fellow countrymen, wherever that is. It's time to man-up and be a real good person and not a keyboard phantom.
@@BunsAndGunsCalendars You know me not. I tend to help those around me who cannot help themselves, the poor, the unfortunate, the sick, the dying, those in my OWN country, not the lands of others. I do this without having to claim the false honour of murder. I have given everything I have to those around me who are more in need than I am, without fighting them. I find this process is not only more exemplary, but self fulfilling as part of the human race If I see a problem I use rational thought to deal with it, not violence like most governments do to prove their superiority, to prove that by using violence others will be so afraid they will not dare to disobey even the most ridiculous whims, and therefore gain power over their populations Providing cannon fodder to face the opposing governments is one of the most insane things a human can do, but it is accepted as somehow those who are used think they are solving a problem for their masters. I say nay, there is no fruit harvested by warfare. It is a fools dream to think so.
@@mrx1278 Regardless of your efforts, which are respectable, many peoples use terror, rape, murder, and robbery to control people. They don't respect you or your way of life and they won't hesitate to break your knees to make an example of you to control others. Then what will you do? Whatever your response it will be too little too late. Charity to others starts when my family is safe, fed, and secure.
I've had the thousand mile stare look back at me in the mirror, I will spend the rest of my life working to never let my loved ones meet the guy I sometimes still see in that mirror, and making there lives the ones I fought to preserve! I will never be the kid I was, but I refuse to be less than the Man they deserve, My Country required my service, my Family deserves my future! Thanks be to God for the opportunity!
Thank you AND your family for your service and their service. It’s not easy. I’ve had many family members serve and it’s so hard.
That's my biggest fear that my family sees the man I was the man I see in the mirror.....
I hear you, Brother. Amen.
Its a thousand yard stare but can feel like miles and God Bless anyone who has served for their country. Please speak to someone about the guy in the mirror you do not want your family to meet. It's OK to need help and support. Take care.
I lost my Hero and Nephew in 2015 in Al Rhamadi Iraq... He paid the Ultimate Sacrifice to save his crew... ASP. RANDY STEVENS, I LOVE YOU ! STILL MY HERO!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID... YOU'RE NEVER FORGOTTEN!,
I'VE GOT MY "LIGHTS ON FOR YOU"
I very much respect the military and love all the men and women who serve. Not only do I thank the brave men and women who protect my country, my family, and rights, but I thank their family's as well for their sacrifice of days, weeks, and months, apart from their loved ones. Thank you so much.
Thank you that was beautiful brought tears to my eyes as a mother of 3 soldiers and wife of a soldier and a veteran myself it’s a hard job
My husband is veteran his mom is evilness of destroying our family happy loving home my health risk my heart and our daughter her health have anemia and my husband health from work lose more of brother's in fighting in war front his face lose his nephew than evil mother destroying him more putting me twice in jail his mother is killing me and her dad her real suffering our health problems
May God bless & watch over all of your family. Thanks to all of you for your unselfish love & service of our country.
It's not very often that you see younger kids take a moment to reach out and actually show that they care about stuff like this other than just tv, or themselves
Agreed, but Young Children are more Savey on the Internet.
Why would people dislike this? Even if you're not a fan of the tune, at least someone cares enough to write a song honoring our soldiers. That's a quality that's really lacking these days.
There just low life kids in there moms basement there under a rock they don't understand what they do for our country
Probably non Americans who see tributes just for American soldiers Rude and disrespectful, every country has men dying in war for their country, not just americans
I would lay awake in Afghanistan when the medevac helicopters would bring in the soldiers. There was one sound that I dreaded hearing...TAPS. They would play it if a soul was lost and I knew somewhere a family was going to get the worst news possible. A wife, parents, child’s life is forever going to change. Being so close to that lost soul I would pray they found eternal peace! Beautiful tribute and wonderful voice!
Mike Wells u forgot siblings, they matter to
Danielle Copeland yes they do, often forgotten in these matters...appologies
Mike Wells thank u for ur service 👌💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
As a Detachment Cmdr I hear you Mike Wells, I felt the same way. Even more when I heard it was a 18 - 21 yr old; they just started living. The true heroes, are the warriors who gave all, but will never be forgotten. When I salute O'Glory, I think of them; from all era's. It reminds me to be greatful, for living another day to honor them & proud to say I'm a veteran.
And you do know that is the same sentiment shared by the opposing forces for their families don't you?
751 people have no heart!
When she mentions missing the first step it really hits hard. I have three daughters and I am not in any of their first step videos and only one of their first birthday videos. I almost got booted because of the fight I caused because my phone lost signal when my third one started walking. Ha i actually started a riot.
Tears literally rolling down my face...absolutely beautiful...Praying for our Military & their families...and for the fallen and their families...Thank You all for the sacrifices you make and for Your service...May the Lord be with you all and keep you in His care always...In the name of Jesus...Amen
I was a Soldier and I have PTSD and for the first time in a long time I CRIED, you made me feel your pain I know your daddy loves you forever X please give your mum a hug from a lost sole
My dad served in the British Army vs IRA, my grandfather and other families have fought other wars like WW2 and WW1. I might not be in the army myself but I’m proud to be their daughter, granddaughter etc. They served our country proud. Too bad the country isn’t doing good now.

I have 2 boys serving now. 5th generation to serve. Both are married and out of the house and I still leave the porch light on when they are deployed.
What a touching beautiful song!
As an EX Soldier I totally respect her, I left my wife to bring our children up on her own, for this I am sorry, but for your country, you have to sacrifice
I know how you feel. I’m leaving my pregnant wife and probably missing our child’s birth. She doesn’t under stand why I have to be gone but someone has to make the sacrifice for this country.

Been a member of the GRU since 1986, currently doing a few more missions and will be resigning soon. I am getting old and just can't do it anymore, but there is always the next generation that will sadly have to take your place. Good luck to all of you joining the Military and especially to those who already have.

You know that 1.2 K dislikes must be people that aren't in the US and never served or never had a family member to serve cuz that is just wrong your song is Beautiful and it hits the spot in everybody's heart I'm guessing those people just don't have a heart or if they do have a heart It's Made of Stone

@Daniel Rodriguez Yep
Nine years in the Army. PTSD and a few other acronyms. I sit here teetering everyday. It's pretty rough. My daughter is the only reason I haven't checked out yet. And then I see this. Now, again, I am thinking of how many other daughters grow up with this truth. I think of how many other soldiers didn't have a choice to stay. This hurts so deep.
Take it from a vet and a Christian who was in it more than 50 years ago - you can slog through! Believe in your kid and believe in yourself. Nobody says it's easy, but it's worth it!
Thank you for your service and your sacrifices. God bless you and keep you safe.
Hang in there my friend. I'm not as bad as you but I struggle with some of those alphabets myself and my kids and especially my wife are my rocks. I've had PTSD since the early 80's. It's a hard rode we travel but you can get through it. You are not alone. I'm here for you.
I'm using my son's account. My dad never made it home. I can never ever hug him again.. Every time I hear the pledge of allegiance or sing an anthem or see a picture of him no matter how many years have gone by do I not think about him. Even though I was 4 when he died not a time goes by that I don't remember the steps I took going to his funeral in the mountains and the things I saw and heard are as clear today as they were back in the 60's. When people die it is not just them that dies...it's their wife, kids, parents tears never dry up hurt never goes away. Please let my dad rest on your shoulders and let him help to keep you strong so that you will never do anything to yourself to not be there for others. Because you will always be a soldier that is still there to help your kid and other kids and the people your kids can help because you made it. STAY STRONG AND BRAVE DEAR SOLDIER. I'm glad you got to stay.

My first daughter was born while I was serving in Saudi Arabia Golf War 90-91. And when I return back home, my children didn’t even know who I was and I finally got to meet my six month old daughter.
Feel you brother. Met my first-borne son when he was 5 months old after a WESTPAC float. Makes you want to make up for lost time in their infancy.
Thank you for Fighting for our Freedom True Hero! Blessings to and your family! I can understand that heartache!
I haven’t been brought to tears in a long time. I currently on my fourth deployment. From 2006-2009 in the Marines now Army currently. But this is the first with a family and I miss them dearly. Your song has made me remember why I do what I do now. Which is for them and many other families I don’t even know. Semper Fi
Son, I'm a much older combat veteran...Be safe, young man. Keep your brothers close. Never forget your family back home. Do all you can to stay in touch. Don't be afraid, or ashamed to reach out to someone if you start having odd thoughts or feelings. It's not weakness, it's combat scars. Semper Fi, little brother.

You missed my first step,
My first words, Dad.
This house is filled with pictures of someone I never had.
I know I've known your voice.
I think I know your smile.
Mommy says your clothes haven't smelled like your clothes in awhile.
I know I've read all your letters that say how you're doin' it for me.
And Mommy says how you're keepin' us safe even though it might not be easy to see.
We'll leave the light on until Daddy comes home.
We'll leave the light on for our soldier.
To remember all the fallen, fought, and all of those who served.
The soldiers that were beaten, and forever burn.
We'll leave the light on!
Late at night, when Mommy thinks she's all alone
I hear pray to God
"Lord, I don't know how much longer I can hold us together.
Alone, it's becoming so hard."
I know I've read all your letters that say how you do it for me.
And Mommy says how you're keepin' us safe
Even though it might not be easy to see.
Mommy, we'll leave the light on until Daddy comes home.
We'll leave the light on for our soldier.
To remember all the fallen, fought, and those who served.
Soldiers that were beaten and forever burn.
We'll leave the light on.

We'll leave the light on until Daddy comes home.
We'll leave the light on for our soldier.
To remember all the fallen, all those who served.
The soldiers that feel it and forever burn.
Let's leave the light on.

I grew up an Army Brat, both parents served and retired from the Army. They missed many things I did through out my High School years. I went into the Army 2 days after High school graduation. I missed both parents passing on and only made it back to my Dad's funeral. My sweetheart broke-up with me because I entered into the Army. I don't regret serving 35 years as an enlisted and officer.
