  • We love our Pleasure-way Ascent but these are things we would like to see changed.
    Update: Pleasure-way now has a faucet with a pullout and they have a new table design.

    After two years of your inspiring videos, that lead me to getting my own PW Ascent last year, I never tire of watching you and Neil of ultra mobility. After a full year with my Ascent, I noticed that things you bring up in this vudeo, they actually changed in the Pw. Thank you for all your amazing educational videos, I frequently view them again and again as unlearn so much. I'm sure your new van will be lovely when its complete.

      Yes, PW has changed a number of things for the better, and a few that aren't so good. But overall, I still think they are the best mass produced van on the market.

      +Ultramobility Thanks Neil. I am the one who asked you to do the video on emptying your tanks way back in your early days. Wow has your channel exploded. I used a different user name. And I am in contact with MCD regarding the shades, hoping to get that sorted out.

    This was the best video of recommendations for an RV I watched. I can only hope that Pleasure-way takes theses recommendations you made. A women's input designing RV's would be the invaluable to all of us.
    I view many RV that are manufactured in Europe or Asia and they are designed so much nicer than in what we sell in US.
    Thank you for doing video.

    I found your advice useful. I saw an Ascent pass me by on the high way one morning as I was going to work. I sped up to see the manufacturer and looked it up that afternoon. I’ve been watching videos and taking notes. I, too, like the Ascent, though 7 years to retirement, it’s never too early to collect information, especially as the years seem to come and go faster as I age. May be by 2025 when I’m ready to buy one, all the issues you pointed out are rectified. Thanks for the post.

      @FromShetoMe  5 років тому +1

      In fact, PW has already rectified a few things. They now have pull out faucet and a different table. I sometimes think we waited too long. I enjoy driving it to the beach or a park to do computer work without interruptions. But then again, half the fun is the search.

    Just found your videos! Thank you for your thoughts! We just ordered a 2019 Plateau XLTS from Pleasureway and are very excited to learn as much as we can before it comes in. We were steered to PleasureWay by Neil too and I love his channel. It was great to find your videos and I hope you continue to make them. Our experience was much like yours--very hard to find a Pleasure Way but there was one dealer near our town who carries a couple and we were able to see some before purchase. I test drove a Plateau (but not a widebody) and loved it!

    FYI, there is a recall on some Mercedes Sprinters for corrections on their Cross wind Technology. You might want to check for your RV. I have a 2019 Winnebago Era on 2017 sprinter chassis. On our last trip, there was a lot of cross wind that was pushing on the RV and it made us very nervous. Now that I have the recall work done, I hope the technology will help steady the van.

    Enjoyed watching this review. We bought a 2020 Accent during the lock down time this winter with almost no research but ended up with the best choice for us. Needed to be able to travel from our Winter home in in AZ back to Ma in these unsettling times with our dogs.Local dealer had one in stock and bought before sales went crazy,dumb luck. Someone must have listened to you since the new 2019 Sprinter has fixed most of your issues and PW changed the table. We have done a few trips to visit family and camp and will travel back in the fall to AZ. I am a avid cyclist and love taking PW to bike rides . Plug in at night to cool fridge and and take a quick shower before driving home . Thinking of doing the Agile RIP upgrade you did. We will not be doing much off road ( except dirt roads to daughters house). In your experience did it help the swaying on road and also going into driveways. Look forward to seeing more of your videos . Larry

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Larry. Yes, PW continues to make improvements and I think they make a great product. Hope you get a lot of use out of yours. As far as the Agile upgrades, we think the RIP kit has been one of the best, whether you go off road or not, the ride is much better. These rigs are pushing the max as far as load capacity and the RIP kit takes care of that problem as well. From the first time we drove it, we noticed a big difference. Hope that helps.

By then, I'll have him hooked on a B camper-van (he says he won't go smaller than a B+). The thing that will stop us from buying a Pleasure Way is the bathroom. There is no need for pretty cabinets in the bathroom . Great video and summary. Our 'hold-downs' on our '18 Ascent are of different design and work well. I'm wondering if you can go back to your dealer and PW and have them modify your hold-downs. They clearly had an issue and made changes in later year productions. Maybe they have a fix for you. We totally agree with the lack of cupholders in the rear. We found this out this past weekend when one of us was working in the back while underway. We are hoping to find one that is weighted down with small bean bags or similar so that we can place a cuppa tea on the table while underway.
    In preparation/planning for your Alaska trip, we highly recommend Traveler's Guide to Alaskan Camping: Alaska and Yukon Camping with RV Or Tent, Sixth Edition by Mike and Terri Church. Great travel ideas/itineraries from former Alaskans. You will also want to purchase the Milepost. The Milepost provides you details of literally every mile of the Alaskan highways. We traveled to Alaska in 2015. Wonderful trip!

Not sure if you were referring to the bed boards behind the driver's side and the "latch" system. I'm going to mention that next time I'm at the dealer. We got ours quite early in the season and they may have changed the design.

    I didn't catch your name, but I just subscribed to your channel and will be perusing your other videos. I also watch Neil's videos, but you are much more detailed/critical than is he. . . . and as a current Class B shopper/new retiree, I really appreciate that. (1) First question I have is did you look at/or compare the Leisure TVs to the PWs? Your comment about how noisy is the ceiling mounted AC really got my attention. My wife requires a very quiet room in which to sleep, so she would not be able to put up with alot of noise. I have to be cool, so running the AC in hot/humid weather would be a must for me. The LTV vans I have seen on youtube reviews have ducted AC systems which they claim is silent. The LTVs also have the cell phone booster standard equipment. As for the quirky Mercedes electronics, I own German autos (VW, Porche and Audi) and especially on the highest dollar vehicles (such as my Porche Panamera) I still can't figure out how to use the built in GPS (I just bring my trusty Garmin along on trips, and stick it on the windshield with the suction cup . . . very sophisticated, eh?) Same goes for the door locks on the Porche. It took me a while to figure out how to unlock the passenger side door with the center console mounted button. I think these quirks are just German issues that American drivers are not used to. Your horn problem sounds like a defective low tone horn. These German cars come with a high and low tone horn, that work simultaneously. The low tone is notorious for going out. It should be under warranty. (2) You said you did not care about an indoor shower. I'm curious as to why? A dry shower is very important to me and my wife (hence we are looking at the PW B+ XLMD, and the LTV B+ Wonder MB.) (3) Third, it sounds like your husband is tall like me (6'3".) Why does he not care that his feet hang over the end of the bed? The LTV Wonder MB sports an 80" long mattress, and the people I have talked to who are tall, say the 74" mattress is a deal breaker. (4) Finally, can you expand on why you are so against 3-way fridge, but are in favor of a compressor model. I have no experience with RV fridges, but I have slept in a Holiday Inn Express (little fridge.) Thanks for a wonder review. Keep up the good work.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 років тому +2

      Hi Philip. My name is Debbie and my husband John is 6'5 (he's shrunk an inch). Thanks for the low down on the quirks of German engineering. I'll try to hit all your questions.
      We did not look at the Leisure brand because they don't make a 20' RV. That was probably our highest priority for several reasons. We live in congested Southern California and wanted something we would be comfortable driving amongst the masses and parking in any standard parking stall. There are even some National Parks that restrict vehicle length to 24 feet. While we really liked the PW Lexor, my husband didn't fit behind the wheel.
      Air conditioning isn't important to us in part because we live at the beach but also because it can only be used while running the generator or attached to shore power. We prefer not to stay in campgrounds with hookups but in a more primitive setting. You may want to watch the video done by "The Fit RV" because they switched out their air conditioner for something else and I know that Advanced RV claims they have a much quieter unit. But again, I believe they are also constrained by the requirement for the generator or shore power. Probably the most important question for you to ask of any potential vehicle is what the decibel is.
      Having the cell phone booster already installed would have been wonderful. We will most likely get ours installed but I'm still trying to figure out where I want to put it.
      As for showers, you just can't fit a dry shower in a 20' rig and not have something else suffer greatly. We find showers at most campgrounds and also have a Planet Fitness membership and take advantage of that. I don't think we have ever had to go more than a few days without a shower. But also, I was a backpacker all my life and don't mind roughing it. If I am desperate, I can put my bathing suit on and take a shower outdoors or put up my shower curtain.
      As to my husband hanging over the bed, he has done that all his life as we sleep on a queen size bed. Our bed may be short but the cushions are really comfortable so make sure whatever you settle on is comfortable. We met a couple on the road who had a Winnebago RV and hated the bed.
      All propane refrigerators are problematic. They chill a certain number of degrees below the outside ambient temperature. They also need to be close to level to operate. From what I understand, the best refrigerators are the one's used in the marine industry. I keep mixing up my terminology condenser/compressor but a compressor fridge that runs on 12 volt rather than 110 is going to be much more energy efficient. Roadtrek has switched to a compressor fridge from a 2/3 way. They are more similar to your household fridge and runs on 12 volt which can be powered by a solar/lithium battery bank (and doesn't care if the unit is level). We have solar (and I wouldn't get a rig without solar). You don't want a fridge that runs on 110 because you'd have to be on shore power or keep your inverter on and that would drain your batteries. Good luck with your search; take your time. Feel free to contact me at my email if I can be of any more help: energymaven@gmail.com

    We have a 2019 Ascent and found the bathroom area is a great area to hang clothes after an expandable rod is used. Also our packing system involves using different sized mesh zippered packing bags for the back cupboards and then having a couple of collapsible duffle bags if needed to quickly move your clothes out for a stay at a facility. Also the area behind the drivers seat is space that can be utilized for a 8ft collapsible ladder to access the roof if needed. The area under the passenger side lounge seat we use to store the manuals. In our 2019 version there is a space if you remove the third kitchen drawer for a few things that might need to be hidden. Anyway we love our new Ascent and appreciate your videos. Keep them coming!

      +Gary Wernick Have you been reading my mind? Just yesterday I was thinking about the space under that drawer and wondering if it might work for hiding laptops. When I stuck my camera in to take a look it seemed there was a lot of “plumbing.” Do you use it anyway?
      We also put our manuals under the seat. And what a great idea for storing a ladder. Just before we left on this trip I expressed to John the desire to carry one.
      Happy travels. Thanks for watching and for all your ideas.

    If your table post (leg) is metal, perhaps you can have a fabrication shop torch cut and weld back a piece to offset the sofa bed cushion. I’m sure there are some places in SoCal that can do that affordably. Also, do ask the shop grind off any sharp edges and corners for safety, please! Powder coating the new table leg would be a bonus.
    Your comments on the cup holders and phone charging spots: 100% on point!!!!! Seems trivial, but that’s an every day annoyance that shouldn’t exist on a premium coach. Who needs a cigarette lighter anymore? Zero people who purchase a Pleasure Way.

      I have seen 2020 models but not 2021. After the pandemic I can certainly do that and include a few more things that would be nice to have. However, the only place to see them is at a trade show. Dealers just don't keep them in stock. Many of the shortcomings have been fixed on both the PW side and the Mercedes side. But both companies have also deleted a few things that are not making customers happy. So it's a mixed bag and I would love to address all of them in a future video.

    Thanks for your review! I hope both Mercedes and Pleasure Way get your message too. I will tell you that BMW has the same problem as the Mercedes. Apparently, vehicles designed and made I'm Europe don't much care what we Americans think about cup holders. They seem to think we should not be drinking in the vehicles. I would have thought that Pleasure Way would have wanted to add those though since it is a vehicle meant to eat/drink in them. (My grandchildren's carseats have drink holders.). I really appreciate your honesty about the vehicle.

      Hi Kay - Most cars made for the European market have plenty of cupholders - in BMW's case its probably yet another extra you can add on when you buy new. I wondered if it was a german thing, but VW and AUdi both have good cupholders, so not so sure what the issue is.

    You really hit the nail on the head with your 'like to sees". My wife and I rented a 2017 Ascent for a 2 week eclipse trip last summer and had the exact same annoyances that you outlined. Overall we really loved the Ascent and while haven't made a final decision are leaning towards purchasing one. You mentioned the bed slats and bedding suggestions which to us was probably the biggest hassle with the Ascent. Those slats never stowed properly and our bedding bunched up every night. Would be nice if they could figure a way to make slide out slats to form the platform. Also, we liked your bedding suggestions in a previous video but 100% agree with you that a PW solution to form fitted bedding that makes up quickly and stays in place would probably be the biggest improvement they could make in the Ascent. (ARE YOU LISTENING PLEASURE-WAY).

      We’ve had a Roadtrek CS Adventurous for about 6 months and it has that same bed arrangement. (Though it is long enough that my 6’3” husband doesn’t hang over the edge.) We prefer sleeping in the twin configuration for easier getting up at night. Here’s my bedding solution so far. We have self-inflating twin mattresses. They roll up and store in the cabinet across the back. To cover the mattresses I have sewn sheets to make huge cases for them - like pillow cases but open at both ends. I leave those on the mattresses until wash day. At night I can then just roll them out and tuck the top sheet and blanket under the mattress. This seems to be working pretty well. The only downside is that it’s a bit of a pain rolling them up in the morning, though it has gotten easier with practice.

    I found you comments on the Mercedes portion to be very interesting and consistent with my experience. Mercedes makes great cars from a mechanical standpoint, but when it comes to operator interface they seem to be clueless. I like Mercedes and have owned two, but they are way too complicated and very unintuitive. When the start date of Daylight Savings Time was changed locally, I got a letter from the dealer saying to bring the car in so they could reset the clock. I thought, no way, I can reset the clock myself. I did eventually, but pushing buttons and going through menus in the dashboard controls where the clock was located did not work. I had to read the poorly written manual to figure out that you adjust the dashboard clock by using the menus located by the radio controls. I kid you not! Be forewarned.

    Greetings. Thanks for the worthwhile comments and raise some really valid points. Question regarding the microwave... Did you try/consider a convection oven? Don't they draw less energy? Regarding the cupholder quandary you could probably make your own using kydex or get one you like that could be modified (with kydex?) to meet your needs. Just a suggestion. Your voice echoes many many others as to the poor quality/high $$$ of the RV Industry in general and Class B upfitters specifically. On the bright side, their failures are sprouting a cottage industry of small mom & pop converters producing far superior vehicles for less $$. An option worthy of consideration. Thanks for sharing. Good luck and safe travels.

      For me, the 2 big reasons are the ability to operate on uneven surfaces and cooler, more consistent temperatures. But we would probably need another battery added to our system. You can check out a pro/con chart here: www.portablefridgesonline.com.au/compressor-vs-3-way-comparison-guide

    Oh thank you so much for this video. We took delivery of our 2018 PW Ascent in March and absolutely love it, EXCEPT for several little things you have also been unhappy with. For the most part, we are disappointed with the MB side of things more so than the PW side. And, I laughed, cuz we have the very same complaints that you do.
    The horn (really?) and the door locks! I can't tell you how many times I have ended up on the passenger side and was locked out. And then, "which button unlocks the **** doors???" And, getting into the passenger side- where is the handle?? I still reach up to where I think there should be one and shake my head. And I think it only took us about 5 miles to look at each other and say "we should have played the stereo before we bought it". We love music and podcasts and couldn't believe the cheap radio in the thing. We put in a new system, dropping some serious money for a new head unit, power amp, new speakers, Sirius XM capability, etc. BTW- we put in a Kenwood too. They put the power amp and subwoofer under the passenger seat. Very happy! We also think the cup holder pull out thing is useless.
    And the key fob, ?? (I can't see it either). It should have a keyless entry/start, for sure. My motorcycle is keyless! This is something I may add.
    On the PW side- the shades are held in place with velcro?? As soon as the rig warms up, the glue softens and they let go. I woke up the other morning with one of my shades up.
    And the corner of the compartment over the sink is very painful. We have both had to step back and re-orient ourselves after smashing into it.
    And we can't figure out why there is a light INSIDE the AC unit. And the all other LED lights can be annoying to us as well. So far the frig has been great. But we also bring a cooler for ice and beer.
    I will say we de-badged it soon after we took delivery. Not one PW sticker on it. Not that we are not proud of the work they put into it, but we kinda like being anonymous.
    Thanks and sorry for rambling, but it was great finding like-minded folks with the same exact van and the same complaints.
    All this said, we still think we have the best camper van out there! Wouldn't trade it for the world...happy trails!

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 років тому +1

      +d phinn LOL. Yes! Why is there a light in the AC! I have thought about debadging but I have met some knowledgeable people so I’ll keep it on and take one for the PW tribe so we can solve these irksome issues. I think I will put glow in the dark paint on the unlock button and maybe curse less.

      Hi d phinn, just saw your comment about Velcro on the window shades. The Velcro is only meant to hold the bottom of the shade against the window frame; the shade should stay down by itself. But in any case, I just gave Debbie a summary of how I swapped out the Velcro for magnets in our 2016 Ascent. Or, if you would like details, I can give them to you in an email. It's a pretty simple DIY and looks and works really great. skipsteller@cox.net

    Based on Pleasure way’s new announcements for 2019, it looks like they actually listened to your suggestions! Am thinking of buying an Ascent too. Would you ever buy an RV from an RV show? Any regrets getting the smaller Sprinter? Did you custom order you van? Do you have any issues finding a diesel gas station while traveling? Thanks in advance! Love your videos.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 років тому

      Thanks. Always happy to help answer questions. We have no regrets getting the Ascent. I would say it is suited to those who are minimalists. If you travel by air with a carry-on, then you should be fine. If you are more the "check a bag" type, then you might want to opt for the longer rig. We like that we can fit into most parking spaces. We have not had any issues finding Diesel either. That's where the GasBuddy app will be your friend. The tank is a good size and so we can go roughly 450 miles on a tank.
      Nice to see PW address so many of the issues I raised. I have thought about taking down that video because I don't want to mislead anyone. I think PW is a pretty solid company. We did not pre-order our vehicle but just happened to be very lucky with the timing. The dealer near us was getting one in and offered the same price that we would have gotten at an RV show. Moreover, service can be an issue if you buy it from someone who is not also going to service your vehicle. There is a shortage of technicians and so dealers will give priority to their customers.
      One thing to be aware of though. A 2019 PW may be built on a Mercedes chassis that is a year or 2 older than 2019. They may take in a shipment of vehicles and then not complete the build for 12+ months. Our 2018 is on a 2016 Mercedes Chassis.

    After watching the RAGBRAI video and seeing how flexible the threaded faucet and Gardena attachments can be, do you still wish for a pull-out faucet? Have you selected the faucet for the new Transit?
    We don't particularly like the Moen Method pull-out faucet in our Hymer Aktiv - too low, and the retraction hose tends to catch when you pull it. I just discovered your channel. WONDERFULLY informative video, thank you very much. I have considered a PW Ascent too, GREAT built quality but I am not a fan of diesel, though I did have a 2001 Sprinter DIY coach and we loved it. Excellent Mercedes points. And great PW points too. Some of these issues are nonsensical from the manufacturers. Do they actually use their own rigs? I think not. I do really love the COMFY bed. AND the best bug screens of any RV. For the cost of the PW I am considering other coaches, but your right about the poor build quality out there.

      A lot of my comments regarding Pleasureway have been addressed in the new models and even Mercedes may have some improvements on their end so best to get to a trade show and check them all out. Pay particular attention to the workmanship. PW’s build quality is very good. Neil at Ultramobility is a good UA-cam resource. Discounts are dependent on demand and right now pleasureway is in high demand. I think you would be lucky to get 1o% on a model based on the Mercedes chassis because Amazon purchased 20,000 which has crimped the upfitters abilities to get stock.

      Thanks James. I didn't see the 2019 on the PW website. Yes, we did look at the Roadtrek and they make a nice rig. But I didn't care for the finish on the cabinets or the layout with the bathroom on the opposite side obstructing the view for the driver. What I do like about the Roadtrek is the spare tire.. The PW refrigerator is up higher as is the microwave which I think is more convenient. Roadtrek also uses a macerator pump in their black water system whereas PW has the black tank located just above the dump area which only requires gravity. I've read that the macerator can be an issue but I certainly don't have any first hand knowledge and I would hate to speak out of turn. Depending on where you live, the PW dealer may be less convenient and that should be a factor in your decision. You want a dealer you can rely on that isn't too far away. New rigs have issues and you should expect to be there several times in your first year as you figure things out. No matter which one you get, you'll fall in love with it and probably not look back.

      Interesting question. Now that John is retired, we spend a great deal of time on the road. Before that, I was taking it out a week here or there by myself. We have a six week trip planned the end of September. And our son and his family live 500 miles away so it is wonderful that we can take 2 days to get to their place instead of one dreadfully long day. We also sleep in it on their driveway rather than disrupt their whole household. I'm thinking our son will want to use it as well with his 2 boys. Hi, I too am looking at a Sportsmobile and a Pleasure Way. I think I've decided to go with the Sportsmobile though. Just curious why didn't you go with the a Sportsmobile? In watching some of your videos, we have similar lifestyles. We are an active couple that live in Southern California, and recently retired. Seems like the Sportsmobile is a better fit. We drove the Pleasure Way today and loved it but in some ways it seemed too luxurious. Didn't seem like the perfect choice for hiking, biking, surfing, and camping. What are your thoughts? Keep up the great videos! Well done!

    • @FromShetoMe

      Thanks for the question. A couple of reasons we didn't go with the Sportsmobile. We got the impression they don't do dedicated bathrooms, or if they do, it's rare. They more often will include a cassette toilet and that wasn't going to fly with us. The more I know about composting toilets, the more I would have leaned in that direction. We had considered trying to get a 4x4 but now we realize that this vehicle is so top heavy that it is not going to see many dirt roads. Just going over a rolled curb can be a bit rough. The 4x4 would have been nice for additional clearance and snow/rain but not so much to wait the additional time we were quoted waiting for a 4x4. And the price was a bit higher for the Sportsmobile. But do check them out if you are near one of their facilities.

    Where did you have your radio replaced? We agree that the radio/nav system is awful. Also, you mentioned in another video about problems with the fridge. We are having a problem with it staying cold when using electrical hook-ups. How did you resolve this?

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 років тому

      Beach Auto Sound on Beach Blvd. in Huntington Beach.
      With regards to the fridge, it has been an ongoing saga. Just before leaving on this trip we took it in and they replaced a solenoid on the propane line. We haven't had any issues with it keeping things cool on electric since then, but rather, now I smell propane when it is on propane. As soon as we get home it is going back to the shop. We have had to stay at more hookups on this trip because of that. We can go one night on batteries but two in a row and we have completely drained the batteries (200 amp hours). Since starting this channel I have learned a lot about the cons of the absorption type fridge and will definitely be looking into a compressor style RV fridge replacement. One viewer recommended "Truck Fridge." As soon as it is resolved, I will do a video update because there seem to be lots of folks struggling with their fridges and all with different symptoms. Hello! I'm a new subscriber to your channel and just viewed this video. We too, are looking for an RV in anticipation of retirement in a year or two. Did you look at small travel trailers as well as vans? We like both the van idea (Pleasureway) and small teardrop (Looking at T@B400 and Airstream Sport) and are having a hard time deciding which way to go. How did you decide?

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 років тому

      Welcome. Yes, we did consider small trailers and were intrigued by many of them. Much of our decision had to do with storage and ease of use. The trailer would have to fit in our garage because of HOA rules and when you store an RV, the frequency of use goes down. Also, the small trailers are really difficult for someone as tall as John (6'5"). I think our travel style is for long journeys as opposed to spend a week or two in the mountains at a single site. We also would have needed to purchase a tow vehicle and would that fit in our garage. Granted, the Class B doesn't fit, but our HOA allows us to park it on our driveway. With a van, you don't have to leave the vehicle to access the living quarters. There really is no perfect RV. You might consider renting a trailer and a campervan to see which suits you. For our needs and our travel style, the ease of use makes the campervan ideal. Many people say that your first RV will not be your last. Go to as many trade shows as you can, examine the build quality carefully, and then go for it. Good luck with your decision. BTW, Pleasureway has already addressed many of the issues that I raised in this video. But the demand for them is high and about the only place you can actually see one is at a show.

    I didn’t realize how sensitive 3way Rv fridges are to movement, and the need to be run flat. Do you need to level your van with jacks each time you set up camp? Is Pleasure Way responsible for the repair/replacement through the warranty? seems like a long time to be without a reliable refrigerator .

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 років тому

      Yes, PW warrants for 5 years on most items. The blinds though are only covered for 1 year. Important to read and understand before you purchase. Absorption refrigerators need to be fairly level to operate properly. We have a small stack of the yellow "lego" blocks when needed. But we would level no matter because it is tough to sleep otherwise. (Most campsites only need a small amount of jiggering). I've been doing a lot of research on both styles of refrigerators. Will probably post an update and a few things I've learned in a few weeks. My next video, though, which I hope will be out by Sunday, is on a windshield replacement that should be happening within a few hours. I'm hoping the installer lets me video tape him/her.

My husband is 6'3" tall and, while we love the flexibility of the Ascent's shorter size, we were convinced that it was just too short for him to sleep. My husband and I just had a good laugh over your question. He says that hanging over the end of a bed is a way of life for tall people. We have always slept on a Queen size bed so I guess he's used to it. And the Ascent feels luxurious to us because it is the width of a King. So I think it is all about relative deprivation. And of course, it is quite a step up from sleeping on the ground. I think the only way you will know for sure is if you can rent one.

    • @TessaHill22
      @TessaHill22 5 років тому

      Thanks so much for replying! Great idea to just rent one. Do you think the shorter length of the Ascent makes a big difference compared to the 23' of a Plateau? The Plateau has the longer bed, of course, but we are downsizing from a 26.5' class C for the entire reason that a shorter rig is just easier to drive, park, maneuver, etc in every way. Tough decisions! I appreciate your feedback more than you can imagine! :)

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 років тому

      Happy to help. Another thing to consider is whether you will be using it as a second car. Are there places around your community you might take it that a larger rig would be limited? One of the shortcomings of the Ascent is that you can't turn the driver's chair all the way around. We also leave the rear table of the Ascent at home because it gets in the way. The Plateau has a table up front which would be nice to have. And the bathroom size is much more of an issue with a tall guy. My husband only uses it if he has to.

    i'm looking to buy the PW Lexor TS. I noticed too the lack of cup holders in the back and found that I could install the fold down cup holder found in Marine Supply places. I have gone from diesel to gas from research learning there are about a half dozen states that do not offer the grade of diesel fuel that qualifies under the warranty and I don't want to have to cross a state without buying fuel and when I do it breaks the warranty. Also, the bathroom was important to me, and the bathroom in the PW Lexor TS is larger. The kitchen sink is a joke, and I agree, if the faucet was offered with a sprayer, it could reach outside giving more options. I would be utilizing the bed configuration as twins, and the only thing that comes to mind to be efficient is sleeping bags because I can't see where regular linens will work. with a small compressor, you can put large items and clothing you don't wear often in a plastic bag and compress them to save storage space. It appears that most people who work on the road and depend upon wifi, use added on adapters, and it's a shame that PW doesn't see the market with so many YT or even travelers who simply want to be better connected. UltraMobility has been a blessing. ONLY PW owners shown are in a closed group and It is hard to find a PW owner like you who is open on YT about the lifestyle in a PW. THANK YOU FOR SHARING.....

      Thanks for the tip, I will check out a Marine Supply for cup holders. The boat industry certainly has better fridge options. I really liked the Lexor floor plan, especially the larger bathroom--if only the hubby fit behind the wheel. And I agree about the diesel being a potential problem. At the Glacier event we went to in June, I spoke with a RoadTrek engineer and he said not to worry about the B-20 used occasionally. I would love to find a true expert I could interview. I've done quite a bit of research and you get lots of opinions out there. One thing we did sort out after research and speaking to several mechanics, change the oil at 10,000 miles, not 20,000 as Mercedes says. We are doing that on Friday but not at the Mercedes dealership. Our local mechanic will probably do it for half what they charge.
