    TERMINOLOGIES:
Ilé: A Spiritual house or sect of Orisha community consisting of a leader, elders, and their students in Orisa tradition.
Aleyo: An uninitiated person or someone that doesn’t practice Orisa tradition. Also an uninitiated (Uncrowned) devotee of Orisa.
Aborisha: A term that usually means devotee of Orisa. Can include Aleyos that have Warrior Orishas: Esu Elegba, and Ogun, Ochosi icon. Some debate whether an Aleyo can be called Aborisa.
Egbe: Means Group. Diff from the term “Egbe Orun” which means one’s soul group or heavenly mates.
Lineage: In the Orisha communities, this means the spiritual lineage from where your own Ile of elders began. One’s spiritual Ancestry in Orisa based on who crowned the person’s Orisa.
Godparent: Your spiritual mentor in Orisa tradition. Most often it’s the person that crowded your Orisa and who you receive Orisa from, get readings and cleansings from. This applies to Ifa as well (Oluwo). “Godparent is more of a diaspora term to describe your main spiritual teacher.
Isésé: Traditional Orisa practice from Nigeria.
Diaspora: Afro Latino, Caribbean, and Afro American Orisa traditions.
Elekes: CONSECRATED Orisa beaded necklaces received in an in person ceremony for protection.
Hand of Ifa: Icofa (females), Awo Faca (males) a ceremony officiated by Ifa Priests (Iyanifas and Babalawos) that gives a person one hand of Orunmila’s mystery for destiny, protection, and devotee-ship.
Warriors: A ceremony that includes the reception of the male Orishas Esu, Ogun pot with Ochosi icon, and often Osun the Metal bird. (Not Oshun, spelled Osun I’m Yoruba.. the female Orisha.

To be honest, all this hierarchy and politics talk gets on my last nerve, 🙄but this tends to be a common question, I felt it’s best to answer in a video for better understanding. My least favorite topic to talk about on this channel.
It’s not that Orisa initiation will take 17 years like me. I actually left Orisa tradition for a few years in 2007, so that was also my delay.
BUT... build a bond with your Ancestors and prepare for when it’s meant for you. Don’t let people rush you because of the business aspect of it. When it’s time, you’ll have what and who you need to have initiation done.

ORUNMILA Aboru! Orunmila Aboye! Orunmila Abosise!! Orunmila Elerin Ipin! Beautiful video and thank you for taking the time to share your precious journey with the UA-cam Community. May Orunmila and Oshun bless you with you consistent victory that will give you the calibration that will invoke compassion, humility, respect, self love and iwe pele. Ase
Now, in Issese tradition the equivalent to the word "Crown," as use in Santeria/Lukumi tradition. The word in Yoruba is Adosu so you are Adosu Osun meaning you are fully initiated to Osun. We do not need to use lucumi terms if we are following Issese tradition with all respect. May Orunmila always bless you Ase OOo

firstly thank you for the information and help. I love watching you UA-cam and it always helps. I have been having a hard time trying to connect with my spirituality and my ancestors for a while and I have always wanted to ask them for help and guidance but whenever I reach out to someone for assistance with my spirituality I seem to run into people who use it as a weapon rather than something that is meant to help guide others. I have been told that the things that I experience and the dreams that I have or things that I hear are all just my imagination and that I am just hearing my own thought but others come to me and demand that I need to do this and that and that they have better spiritual gifts than me . spirituality isn't a competition to me it’s something that I use to better myself and to seek guidance and understanding but lately the people that I try to go to for spiritual help have become more negative and sometime I feel that they are not people I should trust. they try to make me fear the spirits and try to make me feel that bad things are always going to happen to me at first, I used to believe it, but things haven't been making since. I am an African American and I have roots in the Congo where my ancestors are from, although I don't try to make it all about race I do get a bit hurt when my friends who are white and involved in African spirituality try to make spirituality a competition and try to use it to hurt rather than to help, I just need proper guidance and I want to be closer to my ancestors and my guiding spirits but I don't want it to be tainted by people personal agendas anymore.

"It differs from tradition to tradition."
Me: "Thank you for this, because so many in the religion forget this. There are lots of differences... Regla de la Ifa, Regla de la Orisha, Santeria, Balo and these are from the Cuban versions alone... I imagine that Nigeria got even more versions."
The way I see it as, Aleyo is Pre-K. It introduces you to the world and it is very important. We are born as Aleyo. 😎That's what my Balo uncles tell me and it is from here you find out your abilities and spirits, because it is where you start. It takes me long time to go through the paths as well, even though I had been told by so many I have the abilities and gifts to be a Iyalawo. I always see myself as teacher whiling to be a student and learn more, because there is so much to learn. Balo is something practiced by both sides of the family, ancestor knowledge is very important to know which path to take and how to practice. I tend to stay away from Balo due to the blood rituals, but I acknowledge and respect it, because it is part of my ancestors'. I am glad you mention the importance of ancestors and knowing your heritages.
Thank you for your whole video really. This has helped answer so many of the questions. I'm going to bookmark this for further study.

Thank you so much truly Queen for you research and intelligence! Between helping me to understand the levels within the system of African spirituality you have also helped explain the places of fasting and prayer within the system. With those topics as well as the position of ellekes, I was told numerous contradictory things and felt discouraged of sorts from continuing to study. Thanks to you I have a better and more loving interpretation of those concepts. Thank you again!

I would love to be under you. I’m just starting out but the dreams I have. And the things Spirit tells me to do is bananas but I still want to move right. I come from childhood of Hebrew, recently from Christian, and I am a prophet in that language. Kind of my back ground and now learning about Our Spirituality

      1. I usually answer those types of questions in the private phone call appointment consultations, because honestly, it’s not really a one size fits all answer to those questions. Why?
It’s not just about finding a legitimate teacher but finding a teacher who you are COMPATIBLE with that will actually teach you make you feel included and treat you fairly.
      2. I discuss in the Patreon group. You will know by the tools they use. Also have a video here on UA-cam call the African spirituality PopQuiz in which it answers that question. ua-cam.com/video/6zH6QOP98HU/v-deo.html
3 Cost of spiritual work and ceremonies in the tradition vary from Elder to Elder kind of like going to get your hair done and everyone charges their own fees. It also depends on the ingredients and even animals that you may need and the location and how much those animals and ingredients cost to attain to do work for a person. Once again this will vary from Ilé to Ile.
      4. Absolutely
      5. Costs always vary depending on the Ilé and which Orisa is being given and how complicated that ceremony will be.
      6. Absolutely not there are many more thousands more. Need to do a video on that.
      7. Absolutely
Stay tuned and feel free to book a chat if ever needed.

Can you please share your thoughts on people initiating with a god family over seas in Cuba or Nigeria and coming back to the states to do their iyawo year and such without the presence of their god parents? Isn't the point of crowning to become a priest in training? How can you be trained when you have to take a flight to visit your elders and can hardly spend time with them?
