@@cosmicdebris2223 Relax, please. Aviation history is full of disastrous stepping stones getting to the amazing safety we are taking for granted too often these days. Amazing adventure on the way to New Zealand. Awesome trip to another bucket list destination of mine. Thank You @noelphilips for sharing your journey. ❤
The last flight I took was in 2004 on a 737-200 that had been through the wars (not literally) in Canadian service, and it still looked about 1000 times more airworthy than that Scoot Dreamliner.
Took two flights on the scoot dreamliners recently, and both looked to be in pretty poor condition. The cabin was also very worn, and it was pretty clear that they hadn't done much to keep the planes looking nice. At least the flights were cheap I guess.

The delay and gate mix up aside, that looked quite a decent flight and a good price for Business Class too. Had it been a daytime flight then it would have been no contest, I'd take it over ANZ for half the price every time. I've done a couple of longish flights in Air Canada MAX8s, one in Business Class, YUL-YVR, and one in Economy Preference, LHR-YHZ, and both were great.

19:00 No, Noel. I would definitely NOT travel with Batik Air all the way from Perth to Auckland. It's a long flight& I'd want to travel that distance in ultimate maximum comfort. Hi Noel! I love your videos. I heard that recently SAA started their a340 flights between Perth and Johannesburg for the first time after covid. Maybe you could make a video on that? I would love to see what it is like to fly on that flight. Especially because i live in Perth!
Edelweiss sells Business upgrades during/after boarding inside the plane. Thy definitely announced it on the ground though, can't remember if people did it while still on the ground or after take-off.
Fascinating to see an airline I’ve never heard of that apparently flys over my house regularly! And according to flight radar, flew over as I watched this video!!
Talking about "freedom"... Around 16 years ago Air NZ "bullied" Kiwi Air (1 leased 757) out of the Trans Tasman market with a few of their old 737s, later upgraded to brand new A320s, painted in the livery of their creation, Freedom Air. Apart from the traditional routes between NZ and Australia, they offered Melbourne - Dunedin. The closest one can get to this timesaver these days is Melbourne - Queenstown. Hello, Air NZ, just in case you are reading this, 1 flight per week to Dunedin direct from Melbourne will be a great bonus in your network still. Noel, if ever you get to Dunedin, they've got a great train station and an even greater train trip from there. Taieri Gorge. Dunedin, worth a diversion from the traditional sightseeing in Aotearoa / New Zealand.
Work as a dispatcher for a Canadian leisure airline here and we operate a nonstop flight between Punta Cana (PUJ) and Vancouver (YVR) on a 737MAX once per week which is 8h30 Westbound and 3320nm. We will sometimes tech stop due to headwinds or if the temperatures are too high down in PUJ we will not be able to physically fit the maximum amount of fuel in the tanks...
I recall flown twice to New Zealand from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. One to Christchurch in mid-2011, and to Auckland with stopover at Gold Coast Airport in early-2019. Both onboard Airasia X Airbus A330-300 (with 9-abreast economy seat). Depart on the night before, and landed in the afternoon later. While the flights can be tiring, but i have to say that New Zealand might be the only country i would love to visit on over 10 hours flight. Perhaps Business Class on Batik Air 737 would be alright, but probably much better with economy on widebody A330 over the same seat on narrowbody 737 on that long journey.
Having traveled the world I don’t envy your travels , mine started in 1962 taking a charter flight from Belfast to Trondheim in Norway , it was for a European football game and I was only 12 at the time …From then on I never stopped travelling from working in Malaysia in 1970 and then Australia and New Zealand …Those days were totally different, innocent yet exciting …Spending most of my time now in Fuerteventura I really don’t care if I never get back on an airplane , it’s bloody stressful but you’re building a UA-cam channel so probably necessary…
I absolutely love the cheery voice over despite the tiring conditions on arrival into NZ - classic Noel Phillips. Wish I could remain so composed. Role Model - you should bring out a how to behave manual - some of us need it. The Noel Phillips meditative and cheery guide to flying for cranky pants people
Just looked at pricing for a PER-AKL next week. A no lounge-access business class seat on Batik PER-AKL is just under AUS$900. An economy ticket on AirNZ for the same day is just under AUS$800. Business class AirNZ is AUS$2000
The entire time the press is carrying on about 'all kinds of issues,' fully loaded MAX 8s are flying to-and-from Hawaii all day long, every day, without the slightest mention. I've purchased a dozen such flights in the past couple of years, and have another one coming up in June. It's such a non-issue for me.
Air NZ now use Wamos for the Perth Auckland route unfortunately until April 30. Fyi there's a shuttle bus between international and domestic in Auckland every 10 mins or so
Ataroa... 😂 Almost nailed the pronunciation there. Welcome to NZ! Would love for you to try some of our local carriers outside of Air NZ like Air Chathams or Barrier Air.
Great to see you back in New Zealand! I have been waiting for it for a long time. Every time you have come past this part of the world you have just missed us. Hope you enjoyed your time here and flying on Air New Zealand.
Great review as always, Noel. Cheers! Perth resident here with a wife from NZ. We've booked 3 flights from Perth to NZ and back with Air NZ since 2018. Only time we ever actually gotten an Air NZ airplane was the very first flight.. Return leg was with HiFly (absolute joke of a flight). Second flight we cancelled as soon as they told us the planes were not Air NZ and flew Qantas with stopovers in Sydney. Third time was Wamos Air - better than HiFly but still well below what's expected for Air NZ. I'm glad Batik is also now flying this route and giving Air NZ a deserved kick up the bum. Next time we fly to NZ we'll gladly be flying Batik, because at least we know what we'll be getting when we book our tickets, unlike Air NZ and their track record of screwing over passengers flying to or from Perth.
It was lovely to see my home town, Auckland, again. Flying into Wellington is crazy because of the winds. I'd still take the cheaper airline if I wasn't in a rush
Does Malaysia use a different alphabet and numbering system ? Reminds me of the scene in "Flying High", when the Marshall is being asked for the location of the baggage trolley and by pointing to it with his light sticks, the 747 is diverting, crashing through the glass wall into the waiting lounge.
@@thies7831 Also noticed that some airports give 2 names to each gate - the signs pointing to it in the terminal may for example say 'D60' but the sign on top of the gate's aerobridge may say '460' instead. Maybe it's for the latter's signs to be language-neutral so that its easier to read by pilots whose main language isn't English
@@lzh4950 Is that so ? I haven't noticed that before. However, it might be easier for passengers getting guided into a terminal by letter identification first, followed by the number for the airbridge. Those working at the airport are more used to which airbridges are located in which terminal, therefore an order to show up at "Four-Six-Zero" will be equivalent to them as "Bridge Six-Zero in Terminal Delta". (Which is the 4th letter in the alphabet ...) In Hotels, Room 4057 is located on the 4th floor as Room No. 57.
First thing I noticed was why I often take row two or three, as row one can have that wall in front. That not so good if tall like me. Give me the extra legroom over the seat in front being a but closer. In the older aircraft where there was no partition, the front seat used to be great.
Perth gets a lot of interesting airlines that other cities in Australia don't get. Asian airlines can fly smaller planes there, so people in Perth have a good selection of cheap flights to places like Singapore and Bali. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself in this part of the world Noel.
A month ago I stayed two nights at the President Hotel in downtown Auckland - a whole section of the dining room was cordoned off for Batik Air. A fairly budget hotel for an aircrew, but I guess this is part of the reason for the lower fares compared with the competition. As always, I enjoyed this video. Thanks.
Hi Noel...enjoyed this trip with you. I was in NZ last year, and found flying Air NZ was a great way to travel between cities. There are numerous daily flights from AKL to WLG; you needn't have worried about missing your connection. Although I don't know Air NZ's policy/fees if you did miss it. I loved NZ and would love to eeturn. Thanks again!
Seeing videos from NZ makes me nostalgic, spent my first birthday away from family in AKL during my working holiday adventure in Australia 2003. Air NZ served domestic destinations using the B737-300, Mt Cook and Queenstown are amazing places I wish to see again one day. 😊
Can’t believe you got through Auckland domestic security so quickly!!! I was commuting between Auckland and wellington for a bit, some mornings it was taking me an hour!!!
Here is my opinion on your choice of Airlines . Those seats were Premium Economy which is fine as long as you don’t think there Business, the trouble with that size airline in that physical location is you get mechanical issues replacement planes could be a lot of wasted time . I must say that Perth Lounge looked luxuriously empty and the terminal was far from busy which for me travelling NA and Europe is a forgotten luxury. Not sure I learned a lot and would you actually pick an airline based upon the Loo .
Those 2 massive eagles is from the movie "Lord of the Rings". One of those eagle should have Gandalf riding on it. The last time I was there in NZ in 2015, they also had a giant figure of Gollum from "Lord of the Rings". Love watching your videos.
During the height of the "Lord of the Rings" films, some Air NZ pilots addressed their passengers on arrival in NZ from international destinations with a mystic "Welcome to Middle Earth". The inflight safety videos by Air NZ during the "Hobbit" era are a classic and to be found here on youtube.

Great to have you in New Zealand Noel 😊 and kudos on the pronunciation attempts, pretty solid!
Batik also operates a freedom flight between Taipei and Okinawa , Japan.

@@thies7831 Yeah I remember that, and Zeal320......
you SHOULD be able to take your water now with the new MRI scanners 2:08
You can take water intoAustralia's domestic terminals but not international
CT scanners.
Only for domestic. International is still more or less the same as the rest of the world
Work as a dispatcher for a Canadian leisure airline here and we operate a nonstop flight between Punta Cana (PUJ) and Vancouver (YVR) on a 737MAX once per week which is 8h30 Westbound and 3320nm.
Noel is an aviation fanatic so he will fly on any aircraft its the whole point of his channel.
Oeh lovely, I lived in NZ for a year and it's the only place I'm homesick for. :)
Me too.
Thanks again for the video. Very good you made the connection . Rather stressful I'm sure.
I absolutely love the cheery voice over despite the tiring conditions on arrival into NZ - classic Noel Phillips. Wish I could remain so composed. Role Model - you should bring out a how to behave manual - some of us need it. The Noel Phillips meditative and cheery guide to flying for cranky pants people
It was great to hear you on BBC World Service!
“Oh spicy, quite good…” then immediately transitions to the “it’s time for the Noel Philips Loo Review” absolutely cracked me up.
Just looked at pricing for a PER-AKL next week. A no lounge-access business class seat on Batik PER-AKL is just under AUS$900. An economy ticket on AirNZ for the same day is just under AUS$800. Business class AirNZ is AUS$2000
Hmm, the MAX series is having all kinds of issues. Let's ride one for hours out across the South Pacific!

I appreciate Noel, he is a class act!
Thats a new one the plane parked in the wrong spot
(Which is the 4th letter in the alphabet ...)
In Hotels, Room 4057 is located on the 4th floor as Room No. 57.
Great to see you here in NZ Noel. I was wondering when you were coming over. We love our mount Taranaki. Enjoy your time here.
Not too many people can say they’ve flown Boutique Air and Batik Air. Thank you for sharing both!
“Ooh, that’s nice and spicy… …it’s time for the Noel Philips Loo review “ 😂 the juxtaposition was hilarious. You’re so funny…!
First thing I noticed was why I often take row two or three, as row one can have that wall in front.
That not so good if tall like me.
Give me the extra legroom over the seat in front being a but closer.
In the older aircraft where there was no partition, the front seat used to be great.
Copa Air, Panama-City (Tocumen Airport) to Buenos Aires is 7:10 hours flight with 737!
Another great video. Nothing better than CBS Sunday Morning and a new episode from Noel Phillips!
Wow, thanks!
Welcome to NZ and Wellington, hope you have a great time!
Gret video Noel as always! Hope you're family are all well? Safe journey back to the States
Is it just a coincidence that the Loo Review follows right on the tail of eating the curry? :D
Seeing videos from NZ makes me nostalgic, spent my first birthday away from family in AKL during my working holiday adventure in Australia 2003. Air NZ served domestic destinations using the B737-300, Mt Cook and Queenstown are amazing places I wish to see again one day. 😊
Lovely to have you here in New Zealand Noel, and kudos on the pronunciation attempts! Pretty good 😊
Can’t believe you got through Auckland domestic security so quickly!!! I was commuting between Auckland and wellington for a bit, some mornings it was taking me an hour!!!
10:46 i dont blame you for going straight to toilet after having some spicy food :)
Nice seeing Wellington airport and. Being my favourite airport in New Zealand
3:41 Isn't that the same Scoot Dremliner that @NonstopDanVlogs flew with? The damage to the paintwork looks identical😮
Noel...risking his life on a Boeing 737 Max so we don't have to. Thank you, Noel.
Enjoy NZ Noel it is a beautiful country. Hopefully you can make it over to the South Island if you have time. Its definitely worth the trip.
What a lovely video Noel you done it again :) loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful Batik Color Way of the Aircraft👍👍😍😍.. Stay Safe Always, Noel🙏🙏🙏..
NZ is on my short list, so I’ll be taking notes of your NZ Adventure! Safe travels! 🛩️
Did Air NZ 31 years ago. Was not bad at all London to Auckland in the day. Very good flight with an LAX stopover.

ANZ don't do that flight anymore.
that looked like a smooth landing for Welly. More often than not you hit the ground sideways.
Nice to see our mountain (Taranaki) at the start! Enjoy NZ. If you're heading our way let me know!!
seeing a dreamliner with speedtape on the nose is just wild.
