Always proud to see this orchestra from my hometown - not the most famous but rock solid and great recordings on UA-cam, both the music and the videography, for the world to enjoy.
I read that Franz Schubert was 17 years old when he composed this symphony. When I was 17 I was playing tenor sax playing James Brown's Cold Sweat. My Dad was at Julliard School of Music in the 1920's and I found living music from two different worlds 🤯. I didn't hear this symphony until I was 69 years old. I love it ❤
Excellent Symphony. You can definitely hear the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's influence on the young 17 yr Old Schubert, especially in the Allegro. It sounds a bit like Mozart's Symphony no. 40 in the style and in the structure. Anyway, Schubert is a GREAT composer in his own right. So unfortunate that he wasn't recognized during his lifetime outside his native Vienna.
My favourite Schubert Symphony, played by a wonderful orchestra and conductor. It is a piece of music to lift anyone's spirits, especially the allegro!
Perhaps my favorite one among Schubert s symphonies, very galant, Mozart-like, vivid and upbeat. So perfectly played by this amazing orchestra and their talented Maestro.
Shubert is a glorious composer for the symphonies he produced. The musicality and harmony of the various movements are amazing. It was among the musicians of the early phase of Romanticism that I most admire. The sensitivity of the slowest moments, the most vigorous ones, are handled in a masterful way. The orchestra and its direction are superb. This fifth Symphony has a fantastic sonority. Thanks for this magnificent recording and for the delight it provides.
This is One of The Greatest Interpretations of Schuberts 5th Symphony I Have Ever Heard !!....Schubert (The Master of Song ) Is Always " Singing" Throughout All of His Compositions !!...In Fact You Could Actually Call The Symphonies of Schubert , His Most Evolved Songs !!....Such Is Truly The Case With His 5th Symphony !!...The Melodies Are Back to Back !!...One Could Leave The Concert Hall and Go Out Whistling Anyone of the Movements !!....
The art of conducting is with the eyes. We can see how this demonstrated here and the orchestra respond. This is why the performance is as I describe it.
Stylish, fleeting and "light as a feather" is this performance of one of Schubert's most congenial symphonies, and with the loveliest of andante's. It's a delight in every way.
Excellent performance! Delicate and fine phrasing and dynamics throughout, with a healthy balance between different parts of the orchestra. The tempo in the first movement is quite swift for the piece, but still within tolerable range.
A wonderfully well controlled performance of this underplayed symphony. The orchestra perform as a unit, so important to make this symphony work. Brilliant.
Broo, the wind sections with it's tranquil sounds quickly followed by a run down the scale in the strings is just sooo majestic. It's so simple, but probably the best way to start this symphony.
The greatest composer considering all the circumstances and didn’t even have his own piano. Composed more than Mozart & Beethoven combined. He was not from this world.
This music is so impressively lovely and attractive . . . and , now , these performances are so plentiful that is difficult to combine them with other duties and responsibilities of life ! This is amazing and beautiful !
When the "other duties and responsibilities of life" rear their ugly heads, just tell them to stop ranting and enjoy this rendition themselves, and you'll have your peace again ;-)
Absolutely my favourite orchestra, I have never heard them put foot wrong. Please, please come on tour to Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart - so many beautiful venues.
One of my all time favorites, from since on time immemorial. Franz Schubert at his childlike frolicking, ebullient philosophic BEST! The second movement is like a traversal on the Royal Egyptian barge down the nostalgic ancient Hiddekel river. PWG
@@alvarito45 You are so right. I thought about saying that right after I sent in the previous comment, but I thought it was too late. It isn't too late now, though.
What is hard to understand is how Mozart was so popular in his day & poor Schubert was hardly a thought in the music world until much later, well after his death.
Some of his early published lieder like the Erlkönig were pretty quickly acknowledged as genius. His Schubertiades were incredibly popular, but you could only go if you were an acquaintance of the close social circle Schubert was associated with (Mayrhofer, Schober, Huttenbrenner, etc). Schubert was no concert performer outside of his Schubertiades, like Mozart was, which was a great reason why Mozart was so popular.
Schubert was introverted and did not search for much fame. He is presented as a reserved and quiet individual in descriptions. Additionally, Mozart toured Europe as a prodigy from his early childhood, which of course affects his relationship to publicity. Everyone knew of Mozart already before he started composing and starting his own career independent of his parents and the court.
Maybe one simple (and from today’s perspective dumb) reason was that Schubert was not a particularly strong performer, unlike Mozart who was a virtuoso for multiple instruments and Beethoven.
🤣🤣🤣 I didn't want to say, but I totally heard Mendelssohn too in this symphony especially in the woodwinds. This is of course nonsense, Mendelssohn was a baby when this was composed and would never have heard it play

Capolavoro.

By the greatest composer (my opinion) ever lived considering he had no rich nobles support and didn’t even own a piano.

2. Movement 7:25
3. Movement 17:34
4. Movement 22:53
This is the most beatiful interpretation. Beatiful orchestra sound and musicality
Oh how I love the classical era. Such great music.
I was blessed to play the Andante Con Moto movement in junior high concert band. One of the most moving performances of my lifetime!
I always bring to memory mr. Wolfgsng Amadeus Mozart, both genius, died young, austrian both in a different way, and...bittersweet amazing!!!!!
Gracias.
I would not have batted an eye had someone told me this was by Mozart. Absolutely gorgeous.
You would not have batted 2 eyes if you were told that this was Haydn , which it is!
Schubert dedicated this symphony to Mozart.
If you think this is from mozart you know nothing about schubert my friend

SCHUBERT=GENIUS !!!
One of my favorites of Schubert's! He was such an amazing composer!
One of my earliest memories of playing in an orchestra. The nostalgia hits strong. RIP Mr Gary Sanderson

Unparalleled nuance, a masterfully studied tempo, with unity excellent and delightfully established-
We need more Schubert!
The first movement is one my all time favourites. So joyful and playful. Particularly love the intro theme - just a few bars, but sublime.
Very spirited symphony by Franz Schubert! Quite moving. Beautifully conducted by Andres Orozco-Estrada and performed by the orchestra!
La Sinfónia q más adoro de schubert❤
The greatest composer considering all the circumstances and didn’t even have his own piano. Composed more than Mozart & Beethoven combined. He was not from this world.
The 2nd Movement is such a gorgeous "song" that I'm surprised someone hasn't put words to it.
Yes kinda like Mozart’s music as this symphony is intended to pay homage to Mozart’s 40th symphony since there’s no brass and timpani like the 40th.
This music is so impressively lovely and attractive . . . and , now , these performances are so plentiful that is difficult

What about Perth?
The last minute or so of the second movement is pure heaven.
One of the most charming symphonies in the basic repertoire played perfectly.

I can't fathom how one can remain in their seat when that Menuetto is in full swing.

When I was about 3 or 4, I heard the first movement which I loved but I didn't know who wrote it, so I thought it was Mozart who wrote it. XD
Somehow I always relate most to the 2nd movement of a symphony.
Me gusta Franz Schubert!
at 4:07 it's the best bars of the whole symphony

Brilliant stuff! When I need a boost I simply play this.
It seems as if Shubert were Haydn´s grandson...so delighful

Lots of mentions of Mozart´s influence in these comments. For me, it´s Haydn smiling down, especially in the second and fourth movements.

Maravilha!
first time listening to a schubert symphony!
Perfect ❤
Schubert is like if Beethoven, Mozart, and Mendelssohn had a baby
And respect too for Salieri who was the teenage Schubert's seminal mentor.
🤣🤣🤣 I didn't want to say, but I totally heard Mendelssohn too in this symphony especially in the woodwinds. This is of course nonsense, Mendelssohn was a baby when this was composed and would never have heard it play

Schubert had a knack for the ear worm hook - just a few bars that stay in your head for weeks at a time.
