Being a S1 fanboy for more than a decade, the best thing about the 6.6 "new virtual instrument" deception by FenderSonus, is that it caused me to finally look closely at other DAWs . I've had more fun with Ableton Live 12 in the last week than I've had with Studio One in the last 5 years. I just wish I had done it years ago. S1 has its place on my utility desk, just not in my creative studio. Thanks FenderSonus.
Whoever thought it would be smart to charge customers for a version upgrade and then not include what we paid to develop within the upgrade is slimy af. Do I care about this synth over the other billion I have that are better? No. But this is the first slimy move, I guess you guys didn’t see Bitwig screw up in a similar way, they heard community feedback and outrage and reversed this kind of decision, hope presonus do too, sets a horrendous precedent and makes me unsure about this DAW iv loved so much for years now.
As a perpetual V6 Pro license holder, I can't get this VI, but that doesn't bother me, as I have many 3rd party synths that cover similar ground. Also, I don't begrudge PreSonus the option of making the subscription more attractive by making some content exclusive. I would have been upset if they had done that with the recent Vocoder and improved EQ, but not enough to dump Studio One, as others feel compelled to do, on principle that PreSonus betrayed them. The point for me is that all of the perpetual gets new core features (i.e., not plugins and sample content, etc.) for an optional $150 for the upgrade every few years or so vs. $180 every year for the subscription. I own Apple Logic with its free updates, but I prefer S1 enough to pay for the upgrades.
I understood this was included for both S1+ subscribers and Studio One Pro Users...??? (I've been with S1 since version 3 as a pro user). I don't need this synth, but I'm amazed that I don't have it after updating to 6.6. Presonus are starting to bite the hand that feeds, perhaps, just like Waves... leaves a bitter taste for me. oh well, maybe back to Cubase...
@@citipunk7840 Yeah, you're probably right. I can't run Cubase beyond v11 anyway cos my mac is a 2010! I think Cubase still beats S1 slightly when it comes to midi editing, working with velocity boundaries etc...
Damn. Just when I got so comfortable with S6. I need to learn Ableton now. The upgrade to 12 was amazing and remained customer focused. It’s difficult to keep supporting a company that is trying really hard to push everyone towards subscription. So now if I pay for a year under the Hybrid plan, I will receive a perpetual license? And it’s slightly cheaper than the usual plan. What gives?
You got comfortable with Studio One but you need to learn Ableton... because Studio One offers additional (optional) new services?! I don't understand.
@@studioonetutorialsSorry that was just a spew of words from the top of my mind, in the moment. What I meant was, DAW upgrades are important to paying customers, perpetual licenses and subscriptions. We all pay knowing that we’re in that version’s ecosystem duration. Subscriptions work a little differently though in that you just keep paying and you just keep using. Having an upgrade tied to just subscriptions, while still being a version upgrade which all perpetual license owners paid for when we bought version 6 is not a good thing or a precedent. Which means, do I want to keep supporting a company that does something like this? Or should I move towards Ableton, where it’s more customer centric. What is Presonus doing? Now they have a new subscription tier. The Hybrid tier, where you pay annually and own a perpetual license. Just like buying a perpetual license outright but it’s called a subscription because you get everything else as well within the entire ecosystem. Is this a good thing? Yes. But they should have done this when version 7 comes out and not now. Would any perpetual license owners want to get this now? No. IMHO. But the way they are paving the future of the company seems a little rushed and not very organized.

I dont see/hear anything that would justify a subscription. Perhaps for people who otherwise have no virtual instruments at all?! But does this audience exist?
The fact that this isn't offered to owners of a perpetual license is a bad move on Presonus part. I will never pay a subscription price for software so maybe it's time to start looking for a new company to support. 10 years down the drain.

Damn and I thought I was an angry person. Listen, this is just basic economics. I understand the 'sense of betrayal', if you will, but reality does have to take hold here. A company needs to generate funds to keep running especially if it is to keep producing. Companies are not 'greedy' though there are certainly people in every industry who are only concerned with the bottom line. If you want them to keep producing new content, features, updates, etc., than they need to be able to keep the lights on. Regardless of your feelings about subscription-based services, it is a growing method for companies to continue to generate revenue. Perfect? Far from it but it's more sustainable than producing goods and services at no further charge....ever.
I think the problem with Presonus' subscriptions isn't the subscriptions themselves, but that they are a terrible value. I've payed nearly $1000 on Presonus Sphere, the only part of it I use is Studio One, and after 4 years of paying I still don't own Studio One. When Sphere came out they were talking about making all these deals with 3rd party developers to add value to the subscription. Instead they've added essentially zero value to the subscription over the years. Meanwhile I purchased Cubase on sale for $150 and I own it forever.
It's not even that great of a synth for those complaining about Presonus and their business model. There's plenty of VSTs out there, I'm on S1 Artist it does what I need it to do If I want plugins there's tons out there.
Is it a good thing, that this sounds pretty mediocre? You are not giving it your users, only to subscribers, and subscriptions are a cancer and absolutely unacceptable. So yeah. Why PreSonus creates such shity and cheap sounding virtual instruments instead of focusing on developing Mai Tai for example? Mai Tai has a huge potential and they could constantly updating the engine with new features and modules.
