An amazing experience for me. I saw this film at the movies with my older girlfriend when I was 19. We left the cinema with her in tears and me in awe (mostly of Meryl's performance). Ten years later I back packed overseas for three years and ended up in Africa for nine months. When I was in Nairobi I made the effort to visit the town of 'Karen' and saw the house she lived in. It was more romantic than seeing the film years earlier. I sat on a chair for two hours in the front of the house just reliving the movie.
oncall21 that’s so touching to know a man will thinking of his first gf in such a deep sweet way . I wish she knows it and now u have a good lovely women with u .
I first saw this movie in 1986 while stationed in Germany. I was transfixed during the entire movie. I came out of the theater and looked at the German Alps surrounding Garmisch . . . and have never been the same. Something happened to me during that experience that I have never been able to understand, yet I view my life in part to BOOA and AOOA: Before Out of Africa and After Out of Africa.
What a simply amazing story! This movie left a HUGE impact on me I've not experienced since! Incredible music and acting was Superb! The opening song to this leaves me in awe everytime I hear this music and Karen saying "I had a farm in Africa". The opening footage of this train is breathtaking and thrilling!
This film won 7 Academy Awards for Best Sound, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture.
This is only one of two musical pieces that brings tears to my eyes. ( the other is from a Mahler symphony ). this is a timeless piece and the scenery...OMG. takes my breath away. Totally gorgeous and moving.
I bought the DVD of this film with some especial features, like behind scenes and some historical details on the life of Dinesen and Finch-Hatton. It includes beautiful pics of both and from Africa. One of the best aquisitions I've made in my life.
There is a line in the movie that when Tanzania and Kenya set its border, Kenya keep all the beautiful lands, but Barkley said to Dennis Hatton -Finch, "Yes, but Tanzania kept Kilimanjaro.'
My house wasn't too far from where Karen Blixen's house, which has now been turned into a museum. I was there when the filming started and had the opportunity to meet some stars as well. But after watching this movie in the cinemas, I often visited the museum.
One of my favorite movies. Streep and Redford are perfect. John Barry's score is quite moving, especially during the plane ride. But sadly, only one black actor is named in the opening credits. Others are only listed at the end, including Iman. That wouldn't happen today.
I'm not the biggest fan of the film, but when they crank up this theme over that montage, it hints at the great movie movie experience this film was going for, and sometimes achieved. And Sydney Pollack was the definition of journeyman craftsman, who could work in multiple genres. Consider that his two films prior to this were Absence of Malice and Tootsie.
Lol My mom dragged us two boys under the age of 10 to this movie in theater. For years my brother and I could get my mom to laugh but opening with the line "I had a farm in Africa" In the most crackly voice we could muster
Truly one of the greatest movie opening scenes of all time.

I grew up next to her house, which is now a museum.
How wonderful it must have been to experience her "place..her home, her Africa"
that is fantastic!!
Excellent! Glad you got to do that 👍
I was born and grew up in Africa until i was 18 yo, i lived on a farm, this movie is PERFECTION from beginning til end !!
John Barry score. Along with the breathtaking scenery, it's just incredible beauty both watching and listening.
This music captures how being in the bush in Kenya makes me feel. The steady ecstasy when you're there, longing and loss for it when you leave...
My favorite movie of all time.
Certainly my favorite movie, no words to describe what I feel when I watch it.💚
This movie makes my tear up , I love Africa, everytime I return from Kenya, I watch this movie. Just did few weeks ago.

wow...Kenya what a beautiful place.The scenes,poetry.
Every day, when I open a packet of coffee in the morning, I move to Africa with its aroma. What a beautiful movie.

Arlene Carol - perhaps the Mahler Symphony you refer to is :
Symphony No.5 in C-sharp Minor: IV. Adagietto.
Very moving...
I saw part out of this with my mom, when I was 8-years-old. This always was a very beautiful and memorable film. :D Such good times.
How gifted was Sydney Pollack to make a film as beautiful as 'Out of Africa'!!! How powerful can cinema be, when handled by a master!
A masterpiece opening sequence from Sydney Pollack
One of the best scores ever *

🌿 WONDERFUL 🫶🏽
Timeless
I saw this picture at Alfas, which were one of the most interesting movie theatres in Lisbon.
