It's so crazy to see some of the terrible mods people pay glorified novices hundreds of dollars to do to their $3-500 knives, then turn around and try to immediately sell their highly personalized knife at a profit, when it's more of a 2+2=1.5 scenario.
I was anxious for this video to see the closeup views of the made over pen and it is a stunning pen for sure and can see how it would be a preferred one on looks alone❣️
“Bedazzler”: what figure of speech is that? Understatement? Your delivery of that line is spot on. I am, however, dazzled by your pen, by the care and the details that went in to giving it that new skin. The colours and gradations are very much in accord with my own preferred palettes, so I’m probably a little biased. The “high-quality rendering” makes me wonder if I missed y calling. I was surprised that it didn’t cost an awful lot more to get that art applied to your pen. I am so very happy that you have such a thing of joy to keep company with your hand. It’s nothing less than wonderful.
I think it was after your review of the Ebonite Sailor KoP that I realized I had to have that pen. I got it with gold trim primarily because I wanted the two-tone 21k nib. The impeccable finish of the ebonite is black-hole deep infinity; and,mine will stay that way. As sometimes happens there is a problem;mine had flow issues with the very wet,broad nib. Mark,The Nib Grinder,fixed it perfectly. Thank you for the review of this spectacular pen and the urushi artist's services. Happy for you that it rurned out even better than you expected!
Hi David, great video, some tasty nuggets of information! Just an addition of interest, the shells colour is very much dependant on the diet of the mollusc! As for the 3776 century, the clip can be removed, but it requires breaking the seal, which like with the vanishing point can be risky.
While it's not something I'm into, (or would probably never even be able to pay for) 500 $ for that is actually a great price, like placing miniscule piece of an organic material slowly over course of two month ? That's a lot of meticulous work
500 dollars as a wage is a pittance for 2 months of work. You need to be completing a number of pens to be able to live! So yes, it’s a lot of work for not much in return!
O have the same Long of Pen model. While I love the simplicity of the design, this raden treatment is quite nice. It is certainly worth the time and cost for such a pen. Treatment aside, the King of Pen is glorious. Writing with this nib is outstanding. I did have the nib tuned by Sailor's nib meister when he toured the US years ago. Adding a raden or Urushi touch to the body would be wonderful.
The Pen is beautiful, but you knew that. I would have liked to hear what more of the differences were in weight and feel from the original to the raden version.
@@FigbootonPens That is interesting. I thought the extra coating would throw off the posting but I suspect the tapering barrel takes care of that so it would post slightly higher. The main reason is I, like you, would not want to risk damaging that amazing artwork.

I discussed the feel...but the weight is only slightly more. Not anything I really noticed.

I'm curious. How did the dimensions/weight of the pen change?
Having a relatively extensive urushi collection, I can tell you that there won’t be any discernible difference in dimensions or weight.
I guess you have to select a pen that you are happy to use unposted.
It actually still posts well, but this is a large pen which I typically wouldn't post anyways.
