  • The Su-57, Russia’s ambitious fifth-generation fighter, has been a subject of both anticipation and skepticism. The Su-57 project began in 2002 and aimed to rival systems like America’s F-35. A series of test flights occurred, including deploying prototypes to Syria in 2018 and 2019.

      Yeah, but the F-35 also has now over 1,000 planes built and most of them are flying without problems. This, while several more thousands are still to be built.
      All that while, Lockheed Martin worked on eliminating the problems that existed, while also upgrading systems for it.
      On the back of it, PW and GE are working on adaptive cycle engines that would also fit the F-35.
      So, I don't know, what's worse, a few crashes over a plane that's been built, refined and improved over thousand copies or crashes on a plane that hasn't even reached IOC and where, possibly, about 20 units have been built?

      You mean the only 4.5gen NON-stealth fighter to fire at something and not miss. Seeing combat and surviving said combat does not mean the aircraft is a viable success. Claiming it to have confirmed kills also is a stretch given that the confirmed kills were against older 4th gen aircraft. That's like expecting us to be impressed if a P51 shoots down a biplane.
      The reason the F22 / F35 have no combat kills YET is the entire reason it's such a great aircraft. It's as much a deterrent as a viable strike weapon. Any nation going up against it already knows the outcome of the air battle before wheels even left the runway. That's why the F35 program has 15+ countries buying them and the SU-57 has yet to produce enough units for a squadron within it's own countries air force. The SU-57 may look good but that is the only thing going for it and the only reason it has a fan base!

      And the nations going up against the "viable strike weapons" are what, Syrian rebel groups? Iraqi militants? Taliban? Please, spare me the grief. @@sujitbala1492 I could say the same. I don't need to be an engineer (but I am)to spot the design failings of this aircraft. Turbine blades visible from the front therefore very visible to radar. A visible gap between the fuselage missile bay doors because russia has not managed to get a system of pressure regulating the missile bays during flight. (Like the F35 and F22 already have) So the missile compartment is visible to radar also. They are employing virtual reality headsets in their factries to make up for the lack of skilled engineers and a poorly qualified workforce as engineers look elsewhere for employment that have better working conditions and pay. Called brain drain look it up. I don't need to know what the aircraft might be capable of if I can point out what is it NOT capable of. Like being radar invisible and classified as a 5th gen it's 4.5 gen if you are being generous. There are barely 12 units in existence and 6 of them are prototypes pushed into service. Meanwhile 17 countries now are invested in the F35 program and more keep flooding in. Over 1000 units have been built and more well on the way.....Yes I just used a star wars reference. When a nation is stupid enough to threaten the airforce of a nation with F35 the whole world will see what a real 5th gen fighter can do. The F-35 had a huge number of delays and problems as well, and a far far far larger budget. The biggest holdup was the delay in the intended engine development, though that has since been solved. Both the Su-57 and tis intended engines are in serial production and have flown combat missions in Ukraine as confirmed by Ukraine. It also has claimed air to air kills, which neither the F-35 nor F-22 have.
    But most important, Sukoi and United Aircraft Corperation announced the termination of Su-35 production lines and transferring of all production capacity towards Su-57 production. While not guaranteed, several western sources and estimated that Russia's fleet of Su-57s will more than double in 2024.

    I'm no fan of the F-35 program for a number of reasons. But the platform has to be understood within the context of a warfighting plan. People quick to ridicule the platform clearly don't understand the plan. The way Russia is fighting the war in Ukraine shows they don't understand the plan, either. Building a stand-alone platform like the Felon or the Armata and presuming it will turn the tide of battle is naive. Properly executed, offensive combat operations are integrated, and in that plan, the F-35 is way lethal. The F-22 is unmatched in its ability to clear the skies. The only way the Felon survives that kind of combat is to stay in a bunker underground. The Russians are as primitive in their force projection as were the Persians in their conquest of Greece. The Felon might help Putin feel tough, but it will be a hole in the sky if it ever goes up against the USAF.

      @user-zm8ie4tj9j 5 місяців тому

      Correct. 5th gen implies stealth characteristics. The US spent about 55 million working on effective stealth composites for the F35 F22 respectively. More then the Russian air force budget for the Su57 in it's entirely. So F35 F22 has the right to claim to be a 5th gen weapon system. Another point being that stealth composites Can't be painted on or they don't work as stealth composites so the simple fact that the SU-57 has camouflage means it isn't stealthy at all. That's without going into all the anti stealth features of the aircraft shape itself.

    Su-57 isn't a stealth fighter. China's 610B radar killed stealth. Why build stealth when your ally built an anti-stealth radar? But, the Su-57 can Datalink with the 610 along with using all other onboard systems to detect any and all aircraft. It's a stealth hunter, but nobody actually has or had stealth anymore. F-22/35 has better evasive solutions but the Su-57 is packed with more high dynamic equipment and sensors. Unfortunately the 610B radar sent the F-22 back to 4th Gen status. And with a lesser payload haul than the F-15. It's no wonder they're in need to upgrade them to the F-15EX. They won't send them to Ukraine, that's fir sure. But they will start another conflict to draw attention away from an inevitable disaster with a fight against Russia.
