One of the most underrated songs and singers in our lifetime. This live version rips at your heart. Billy's range in his voice and the emotion within the song brings up every pain and every heartbreak of every break up you've ever had.
Well.... he wrote the song, so........ Also, he tells the story of dating a woman that had told him how she had just crushed a guy she was dating before him. He wrote the first two verses, thinking how it must have made that guy feel. He couldn't come up with the finish of the song, until she crushed him the same way. Devastated he completed this masterpiece. Cheers\=/\=/
What a performance! What a song! Billy Vera had them under his full control! Great voice. Great song, super saxophones, excellent timing -- had us all on our tip toes until and beyond the end!

I'm always tickled on the inside when I hear this song. I'd wrap my conscience in it during high school break ups. I also love to see Billy V. Enjoying himself as he si gs it.
This has such a place in my heart forever....divorcing someone I still loved and this played the morning after the divorce and we were still together but I knew I had to leave.....on to a better life...but still carrying a undying love.
I know I went through the same situation. He died 2 years ago and my husband took me to see him one last time. He was in a coma never knew I was there. God bless anyone who knows how much it hurts.
it is beutiful to have a man feel this way about a woman and to put into words for the world to hear, one of the greatest love songs in my personal list
YES YES YES, they are still playing around St. Monica, Redondo Beach and Los Angeles California ... they also have CDs you can buy with all their songs! BIG in the 80's
i have a friend who's an audiologist and intends to open up a store to check hearing and sell hearing aids...he could jump start his business if these 94 people who don't like this song, could come down and have their hearing checked.
What an amazing voice its been so long since some really great vocalists have been popular- it such a shame this generation are missing out on this level of class.
A great song. The lyrics touch all who have been in love, only to see the other person walk away. The pain of doing anything to prevent the loss of that love. This song touches on all those basics and more.
I had the pleasure of seeing Billy and the Beaters live a couple of times in the 80's. Once was at the Roxy, right up close. I still play the music, it's great.
John Wrenn saw him in TX, after the song was #1 and had fallen down the charts. What a great performance it was. I remember people weren’t paying attention, much like this and when Billy sang, the entire crowd sthu.

Thank You Billy Vera & The Beaters ....
So sad to see negative comments--this guy sings with conviction and emotion. Plus you can understand every word he sings--unlike the mumble mouthed screamers of today. The current music ( ? ) cannot even come close--hip-hop-rap--pop--it's just pure BS !
bluesatbirth yes I completely agree!!! I can't stand this music today it sucks ! it's nasty & means nothing all the songs these days are about drugs half naked or fully naked women its sad this world is lost!!!

Fell in love with him before but I was the only one in my crowd who had heard him sing and I went alone. One of the very best concerts I have ever been to and I have been to many of the Top Bands. Simply beautiful, you can`t write and sing like this without going through the pain of losing someone. Hats off to you Billy V. you put into words what we all have felt at one time or another.
Back in the day, a person’s “life” was his richest and only commodity. To give twenty years from one's life tells us how much he loved a special lady; how much he was willing to bargain his own life to keep her. This song was written from raw emotions with true love in mind; when love and one's life really meant something. All the kidding around about “getting lucky” was just a ploy. I think all this guy ever wanted was “just a lasting TRUE love.” (And he can call me any time he wants to!) ;)
