Ok there doesn’t seem to be “deeper” breakdowns so here goes as usual. In the story of this game, Overwatch was a group of peacekeepers from all over the world who were hailed as heroes. Similar concept as Team Rainbow. In the past, before the game starts, there was the Omnic Crisis in which sentient robots waged war on humanity. The humans won and that’s why you see in Hero that there’s a bit of racism against the ones that were peaceful. That’s where Bastion from the Last Bastion fits in. He was an Omnic created specifically for war. The rest is self explanatory. Hero is the story of Soldier: 76, who as a player of the game, you know is a man named Jack Morrison, aka the former commander of Overwatch. Now Overwatch was hailed as a group of peacekeepers but had an undercover wing called Blackwatch, which didn’t do things so... Humanely. The former leader of Overwatch was instead placed as the leader of the Blackwatch division and eventually the two men clashed and the headquarters were destroyed and it all became international news as a huge scandal. Seeing 76 say “Old habits die hard” makes sense in that Morrison is, at heart, a lawful good man living life as a chaotic good vigilante. He says he’s not a hero anymore because he believes he failed humanity and must now keep the peace from the shadows. You can actually see Morrison in the Los Protectores poster and later in the next video. He’s the barrel chested blonde guy in blue. The former leader of Blackwatch, Gabriel Reyes, known in game as Reaper, later joins a terrorist organization known as Talon and they’re the current villains of the game along with a second Omnic Crisis brewing. He’s the guy in the skull mask. In the fight he had against Morrison, he died and was brought back thanks to the scientists over at Talon and was given extra abilities like the ability to turn corporeal, teleport short distances, and fly. The game doesn’t just entail people from these different factions, though. Some of these characters are literally just people who are affected by the world and are in the game because... I guess cause they’re relevant? Winston, as you can see, was an experiment run by Overwatch as part of their vision for space exploration. He’s genetically enhanced and was used in tests to see how he would react to prolonged life in space. They had other experiments but they all went berserk and ended up killing the scientists who created them. All except for Winston who escaped his base on the moon and came to earth and joined Overwatch as a scientist. Oh btw, McCree was recruited by Blackwatch when they did a sting on Ashe’s gang.

Hey Hannah, thanks for watching these. I haven't played Overwatch in years and I'd forgotten how good these shorts are, especially the first one you watched (the PTSD robot). Bastion is something of an anomaly in that it's not suppose to think or feel and yet clearly seems to have some kind of "awakening" in the woods. The more human robot you see later being beaten up in the alley is an "Omnic" (think Sonny from "I, Robot", mechanical but with thoughts and emotions) but Bastion is only supposed to be a simple robot (like a car production line machine). Blizzard are really good at engaging, emotional cinematic shorts (they did the Diablo one you watched, where they summon Lilith). If you see Blizzard on a short it's a stamp of quality! 👍 (Hope your back is feeling better)

I really love your reactions. I prefer watching reactions where its mostly facial expressions with some talking. I am enjoying you watch these overwatch cinematics
One thing that’s cool the flying robot the cowboy saved in one of the first videos you watched is Athena, his computer system that talks to him here. He created a body for her to help them fight.
Damn, I'm so glad you came back to Overwatch :) Can't wait for the next episode ;) Oh and don't worry about the video being just you watching the entire thing, not saying anything. On the contrary, that's the proof you really are into the story and you don't just over-react about everything you see. UA-camrs who act like that are mostly fake and do it for views. UA-camrs like you do it for the sake of the quiality of the videos and that's what Overwatch audience loves ;)
Glad I found your channel. I dont play Overwatch, but I support the community and animations. The short films are so good, I wish they could make movies or a limited show
Glad you're finally doing all of these, makes me happy. The most popular of all the shorts I believe is still "Dragons" (which I think you will include in your next reaction video). As for the previous Overwatch trailer you watched, I believe it is included in this chronological video mashup. I hope you don't edit out your second reaction to it as I want to see it now that you have some context to the world you've been presented so far. Thanks for this!
@@HannaHsOverInvested dang, oh well can't fault you for it. Still glad you're going thru this. When you finally have space on that game trailers list of yours please add Team Fortress 2, all the trailers and game itself were pretty much an inspiration for Overwatch.
Some added context from an avid Overwatch player: The bird’s name is Ganymede and many of Bastion’s skins in game feature it with him. And yes, they are considered best friends. And yes, Bastion’s machine gun in game is that deadly if he’s left uncontested. As for the “Hero” short, the thugs who beat up the omnic robot are a part of a gang called Los Muertos (Alejandra mentioned them briefly at the end), which are a band of dissidents against the government and its policies. The area this short took place in is called Dorado, a prominent Mexican city and one of the maps Overwatch is played on. You also see Soldier: 76 use his Tactical Visor against the thugs, which is his ultimate ability in game. For the “Recall” short, Athena is the game’s announcer for important information (kill streaks, time left on the clock, what map is being played, etc.). The electric gun that Winston uses is his main weapon in the game and the shield he used for testing is his main source of protection. The area this one takes place in is called Gibraltar, another map that is played on. And yes, he isn’t a monkey, he’s actually a gorilla (and a VERY intelligent scientist, like a modern Albert Einstein).
All these shorts are amazing. As for books, if you enjoy fantasy I recommend the Mistborn novels, and if modern/fantasy is your jam, the Dresden Files are enjoyable as well.
You probably had so many comments about this over the last few months, but these are character/lore building videos as the game has no story mode, it's purely PVP. So they build the characters and world through these shorts. The second game they announced on the other hand is supposed to have story, but we'll have to see. But as a long time gamer, and someone who loved the world of Overwatch more than the gameplay, it's really fun to see them through your eyes (in a way), it puts a new light on these videos.
In the game you can play as a variety of heroes, these trailers are showing some backstory to them. For example bastion is the robot with "ptsd" and you can play as him, the same goes for the soldier with the number 76 on his back and the scientist monkey lol. In essence these shorts are just providing a little bit of character and story to the heroes in the game itself.
They were really fun! I The scientist is maybe my favorite. Peanut butter + bananas, he’s a genius. I kinda like how his computer’s name is Athena; and that he uses it to send the ‘call to adventure’ like her namesake would to old Greek heroes.
They got this order wrong. Recall happens BEFORE Are You With Me? Edit: At least I'm sure of it. Unless Winston prerecorded his Are You With Me message to send out if he ever activates the recall protocol. But he's inspired to recall all agents after being attacked and his whole speech about "But look around, someone has to do something!" seems like he'd day that after an event happens to himself as well. He seemed far more passionate about it than if he prerecorded the message.
"How is this to do with the game at all?" All of the 'shooting powers' exhibited by Soldier76 are available in the game. For example, the tri-missile shot he uses. After that when his visor shows that auto-targeting feature allowing him to shot those 3 guys. In all of these videos the featured character uses their in-game abilities.
There was a war between omnics and humans. The french girl and shadow guy (Widowmaker and Reaper) are the bad side. Bastion was a common battle droid, he scanned the memory files from the dead bot in the fields and he now realize his original program and purpose; destroy. But the cutie ganymede open his eyes. Sorry, EYE :D :D
So the Overwatch Shorts are basically to tell you stories of the game's character. To give personality and share the lore of these unique game characters and their world.
Cause in a nutshell, Overwatch the game is just a shooty shoot game. Not much there. BUT. Each character in the game has there own uniqueness to them. A background, a story. Even the places where you shooty shoot has stories in it. Like why am I shooty shooting in this place? Who is this guy that I'm shooty shooting as? What is happening here as I'm shooty shooting? So the short just helps to easily tell people the why and make the character feel more alive and relatable.
Subscribed and making my way through your videos. Love the reactions and commentary. Blizzard has some great cinematics. I wish they would make some full fledged movies out of some of their stories in the pure CGI they use to make these. Overwatch would be a great super-hero flick.
guess poeple already said this but.. Bastion, the robot, was part of the omnic forces, a terrorist organisation of robots that wanted to rules the woeld. Overawtch faught them. But bastion shut down before his attack on the german city eichenwalde which was the town where Reinhardt (the german night character) operated before joining overwatch. Somehow bastion he woke up from his shut down and became nice because of a bird. Later in the story, Torbjörn, one of the original members of overwatch takes care of bastion and gives him a hat, which is why he wares a hat in overwatch 2. soldier 76 is the previous leader of overwatch and he name is Jack Morrisson and he is homosexual which is nice. just like tracer. He's sceptical to the return of overwatch and wants to work alone though. Winston was a member who join a little bit later than the origian cast. But he's the most passionate about getting everyone back together. bastion, reinhardt, torbjörn , soldier 76 and winston are just a few of the 35 playable charcters in overwatch. all these cinematics have atleast one playable character in them, and its usually the main character of the cinematic.
Blizzard brainstorming room be like: "OK so, how about we add a robot right? It can turn into a turret and shoot" "hmm, but it's lacking in story though.." "hmm.." "hmm.." "how about we give it ptsd." "S U R E"
It's a very well executed PR campaign for the game. Most of the first animated shorts were shown before the release of the game to hype it up. The concept is simple yet very efficient. They basically make you learn and care about the different characters you'll be able to play in the game so as to create a connection where there would be none normally. Basically when you get into the game, you have a connection with most of the heroes already and thus you are invested in the game in a way you would not normally be for this kind of game. People normally choose characters based on their abilities and cool factor in typical game of this sort, but here Blizzard created something special. They made people care and bond with characters that would mean nothing in any other game. Even some of the quotes they say in game are tied to their story. And some character interaction are even tied to their relationship in those stories. The power of storytelling is powerful indeed, and Blizzard knew how to get people into this game.
Hannah your so adoreable man 😂😂 *bird pokes screen* Hannah: " are you poking at me 😂😂 Bastion walks off Hannah: " I'm so confused" Bird: " bitch my home is on your shoulder where you going" I've seen these trailers so many times but the amazing thing is through your reactions it was as if the first time. My heart was racing 😂😂 Keep being you Hannah ;* BTW you not talking isn't boring, just seeing your reactions are so adoreable and refreshing for us gamers. Besides, talking through it allows you to miss things and your thoughts shift.
It is a multiplayer game that you play with and against other players. There are many characters you can choose to play and each have unique personalities. The game itself doesn't have a story but the characters you play as are given characterisation through these animated shorts.
Oh yeah, these shorts are more lore-based, but they do incorporate some elements of the heroes' gameplay into them (like Soldier:76's Helix Rifle and Tactical Visor, and Winston's Shield Generator and Primal Rage). The Meet the Team trailers for TF2 were kinda similar, actually, though not quite as lore-based.
There IS a story - Main plot have been told in last peace that you saw in this video above. The thing about these videos is - almost each concentrated on personality of some actual or ex- agent of Overwatch. (Some just disapeared, some been in custody since they are "criminals", Some actually turned criminals... and one way or another they meet once again.) Each video tells either a story about the character himself (how he became who he is), or outlines a situation in which some character can introduce himself and show-off a bit of stuff he's capable (some, be it Mexican Hacker girl, or the Swedish armor-tech girl added some time after the release first game). Basically - the game itself is a confrontation between two teams consisting of these same heroes. Different combinations (and, as a result, abilities) give different results. In the second game, which is due to be released at some point in future (kinda soon), they promised to put more emphasis on PvE content (that is - move actual story (a new war with Omnics (self-conscious robots struggling with people) and Criminal organizations) forward.
@@HannaHsOverInvested We all want :( Blizzard has excellent art specialists... This company is literally famous for it. However, for some reason they do not make any emphasis on it...
A bit of context.....In religion Lilith appears in Hazbin Hotel she is the wife of Lucifer the queen of hell. so Blizzard has adapted that for the game that's about the eternal struggle between angels and demons.
2:26 omg why does everyone who reacts thinks he might kill Ganymede I don't remember the thought of Ganymede dying never crossed my mind for more than a second, and that was when they showed the feather next to the nest (though it looked more like he ran outta fear than died) omg I guess on this nth watch he looks at his gun hand last before looking at Gany 7:09 deciding between your home and your old objective
eventhough you're not gonna guess that was a good guess. all of their short stories for their games are mindblowing great to the point where im questioning how blizzard entertainment is JUST a game company?! they should also be in the movie business with their own cinematic universe. the BCU has a nice ring to it.
The animated shorts are just presenting some new characters or expanding the lore behind the game, that's why all the animated shorts are so differents :)
it's a multiplayer game with ~30 characters to choose from and those videos are backstories of each of them for the most part and/or backstory or the world they evolve in but in the game it's basically 2 teams shooting at each other
I read some comments and seen that no one really said anything about the trailers the trailers are about each of the heros and there background storys they don't have anything to do with game but its a small glimpse in to each heros lifes
The game itself is just a bunch of people playing against each other with no story elements in it. The trailers, and even some comics that can be found on Blizzard's website, are all we got for the story. A lot of the trailers themselves are about where characters are after the Overwatch team disbanded and some provide backstory for certain characters. Some trailers were used to introduce new characters that were added to the game later on.
If you didn't get the message of the first one with the robot (bastion) and the bird. It represents how one can have a past that might be haunting and traumatizing. But Anyone can change and look to the future. The nest represents him building a new life in the forest with the bird. The ptsd the robot still had caused him to destroy what he newly built, almost destroying a new healthy relationship along with it. As he walked toward the city, toward the end of the vid, accepting that he is bad and was built for war, the bird who represents the character who is wholesome and genuine, comes along once again to help him realize he can start again (bringing a new twig for a new nest) he makes the right choice and decides to start again and make a new life with the bird. Your past doesn't fine you, nor should you give up and accept what you used to be and believe that's what you are if you fail. We are all worthy of a new start and change 😁

I am so impressed at how they convey such emotion in such a short period of time.
This is my favourite game, and i love watching people reacting to the trailers
Damn, im jealous. I want to go back in time before i myself saw all these videos and had my first reaction. But im happy that you make it fresh. Really fresh, coming from someone whos not yet one with the g community. Looking forward to future reactions!
Thank you! And I totally understand that feeling. I have it with so many things.
I remember watching the bastion short live, when it aired. I don't remember crying this much over my favourite hero.
Oh cool!!!!
Thank youuuu!!!
Yes, it kind of doesn't.
Just as it is with Siege cinematic, it's just cool shorts adding some life to a shooter game.
They are such good story tellers in these shorts.
😬😬😬 Don't hate me, I did skip through that one a bit because I really wanted to know what happened next in the story.
@@HannaHsOverInvested dang, oh well can't fault you for it. Still glad you're going thru this. When you finally have space on that game trailers list of yours please add Team Fortress 2, all the trailers and game itself were pretty much an inspiration for Overwatch.
Some added context from an avid Overwatch player:
The bird’s name is Ganymede and many of Bastion’s skins in game feature it with him.
I think the Dresden files is going to have to be on the list because its the one most mentioned. I will look into Mistborn too!!
I really like the short lived 'Dresden Files' TV show.
The Mistborn books are excellent
every game and charcter has its own beautiful stories even after all this time gets me everytime
It's funny you mentioned Pixar, in the Overwatch community people have been wishing Blizzard would partner with Pixar for a movie
They totally should!!!
Okay cool thanks!!!
So well done these animated shorts!!
Agreed!
Bad Robot: Yeaaaaaa, that's too far anyways.
Good Robot: BUILD A NEST!
Love how that pne guy made the smart call and let go of the rope.
They were really fun! I The scientist is maybe my favorite. Peanut butter + bananas, he’s a genius.
I kinda like how his computer’s name is Athena; and that he uses it to send the ‘call to adventure’ like her namesake would to old Greek heroes.
I am a big Winston fan.
Once again you watched them all! Awesome reactions Hannah :)
Thank you!!
Seeing you falling in love with Winston made me say: "Omg, and she hasnt seen him as a baby yet. She's gonna cry". It made me giggle.
The sad thing is this game has no campaign meaning there’s only Player versus player
I honestly cant wait for the others lol
I'm thinking every other week, alternating with other game trailers. Next week will be Assassins creed cause it won in the poll. What do you think?
@@HannaHsOverInvested Sounds good I think you'll like the assassins creed trailers especially if you like history
I don't play the game, but I always enjoy their videos.
Cause they are amazing!!
@@HannaHsOverInvested Same people that do the World of Warcraft videos. 😃
Can't wait for World of Warcraft Cinematics, they are also emotional and you can watch them like an epic movie!
They are on my list! Assassins Creed won in the poll tho 😬😬😬
Subscribed and making my way through your videos. Love the reactions and commentary. Blizzard has some great cinematics. I wish they would make some full fledged movies out of some of their stories in the pure CGI they use to make these. Overwatch would be a great super-hero flick.
I wish they would too!
Man, even after the TF2 community convinced me overwatch sucked (after being an overwatch player), I still cry watching bastions video.
guess poeple already said this but..
It can turn into a turret and shoot"
"hmm, but it's lacking in story though.."
"hmm.."
"hmm.."
"how about we give it ptsd."
"S U R E"
I want to be in the movie. I dont know who I want to be.... but I know there should be a movie, and I want to be in it.
@@HannaHsOverInvested Don't we all ;)
Hannah your so adoreable man 😂😂
*bird pokes screen*
Hannah: " are you poking at me 😂😂
Bastion walks off
Hannah: " I'm so confused"
Bird: " bitch my home is on your shoulder where you going"
I've seen these trailers so many times but the amazing thing is through your reactions it was as if the first time. My heart was racing 😂😂
Keep being you Hannah ;*
BTW you not talking isn't boring, just seeing your reactions are so adoreable and refreshing for us gamers. Besides, talking through it allows you to miss things and your thoughts shift.
hahaha thank you.
The reason these tie into the game is the fact that they kinda express the characters backstory's
It is a multiplayer game that you play with and against other players. There are many characters you can choose to play and each have unique personalities. The game itself doesn't have a story but the characters you play as are given characterisation through these animated shorts.
Oh okay! Thanks.
At 'Hero', you asked how it game works. Soldier 76's ultimate ability is an auto-target :D His wide red scan can target all enemies of your sight.
The cinemtaics kind of show off all the characters abilities and personality
When you didn’t understand the bastion animation it made me sad, it’s my fav!
Did understand? I understood the story I think...
Ive played OW for years and never watched some of these. I need a tissue lol
Just so you know, The reason why bastion shot at the trees is because the wood pecking reminded him of gunshots from a distance.
PTSD bot
4:25 That just made me crack up XD
Awwwww but he's so damaged. That's sad!
These are stories of some of the characters in the game to show you who they are in this world.
I do not wear glasses so that I may see. I wear glasses so that I may see...more. - Chiun - Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985)
Robot: Oops, I did it again.
There IS a story - Main plot have been told in last peace that you saw in this video above.
The thing about these videos is - almost each concentrated on personality of some actual or ex- agent of Overwatch.
(Some just disapeared, some been in custody since they are "criminals", Some actually turned criminals... and one way or another they meet once again.)
Each video tells either a story about the character himself (how he became who he is), or outlines a situation in which some character can introduce himself and show-off a bit of stuff he's capable (some, be it Mexican Hacker girl, or the Swedish armor-tech girl added some time after the release first game).
I want a movie of this...
2:26 omg why does everyone who reacts thinks he might kill Ganymede
I don't remember the thought of Ganymede dying never crossed my mind for more than a second, and that was when they showed the feather next to the nest (though it looked more like he ran outta fear than died)
omg
I guess on this nth watch he looks at his gun hand last before looking at Gany
7:09 deciding between your home and your old objective
Hahah bc killing the bird would get me good. That's why I thought that hahah
eventhough you're not gonna guess that was a good guess. all of their short stories for their games are mindblowing great to the point where im questioning how blizzard entertainment is JUST a game company?! they should also be in the movie business with their own cinematic universe. the BCU has a nice ring to it.
They could def be in the movie business.
The animated shorts are just presenting some new characters or expanding the lore behind the game, that's why all the animated shorts are so differents :)
These shorts are providing world building and character development for a game that doesn't have any narrative itself.
It does a great job.
it's a multiplayer game with ~30 characters to choose from and those videos are backstories of each of them for the most part and/or backstory or the world they evolve in but in the game it's basically 2 teams shooting at each other
Okay cool! Thanks!
liked that unison headtilt
I read some comments and seen that no one really said anything about the trailers the trailers are about each of the heros and there background storys they don't have anything to do with game but its a small glimpse in to each heros lifes
The game itself is just a bunch of people playing against each other with no story elements in it. The trailers, and even some comics that can be found on Blizzard's website, are all we got for the story. A lot of the trailers themselves are about where characters are after the Overwatch team disbanded and some provide backstory for certain characters. Some trailers were used to introduce new characters that were added to the game later on.
Okay! great. Thank you for the info!!
