Yes, it had some flaws and some weird stylistic choices, but it still makes me hopeful for something with a bigger budget and a studio behind it to come along someday. One of the problems with MK is that the story has reset itself 3 or 4 times in the games, with each time being slightly different. Thank you! It's a good feeling knowing you're not alone on your opinions. I had a debate with my friend about this cause he thought the new MK was a perfect 10/10. He defended the movie saying they were working with a limited budget but I mentioned the first original MK movie had a lesser budget & they still stayed faithful with what little they had. Heck the new movie even copy some elements of Hanzo's backstory from these videos and I say Legacy did it better. Once again thank you and I 100% agree.
Thought the new movie was ok, nice but with a lot of pacing issues, that being said, it's much better than all of these short films, the storytelling is just more refined, of a higher pedigree, better acted, better directed, just the beginning with Hanzo finding his family dead is executed much better. The new movie is a 5.0/10 for me, these shorts movies are a 2.0/10, because of how underwhelming they are, and the original 1995 is a 2.5/10, mostly because of the soundtrack. There hasn't been a good MK movie yet, the new one could have been that, everything was decent except the pacing, when it got to the second act it never stopped and rested, it didn't give enough time for the audience absorb the atmosphere, which is a shame because the production design was great.
@@Gabagu Your first sentence I disagree with only because these short films give you enough time to absorb and explain some lore/character elements to the Mortal Kombat world. This is a nitpick but just little details like Bi Han speaking full Japanese and stabbing Hanzo in the back as Hanzo mourns for his dead family then mocking Hanzo in the end was WAY MORE EFFECTIVE than the new movie where during the beginning Hanzo even said "I don't understand your words" because Bi Han was speaking Chinese and little Japanese. To the original comment's point, it says a lot when a short film that was made for dirt cheap nailed simple things like pacing, atmosphere, story/character development objectively better than a multi-millionaire movie. All I can say is the new movie has better actors, better costumes, and effects but the filming aspects in the story they were trying to tell in the script, editing, soundtrack, and camera work was weak. I believe if these short film guys were given the budget of the new movie we would've had a kickass cinematic Mortal Kombat movie.
@@waynesfiction4now How are any of these short films objectively better than the new film? They nail the atmosphere? You mean the pretentiously over digitalized image treatment and color-grading? I've played the games and THIS is not the tone or atmosphere of it, the new film goes from a serious well-crafted introduction to a consciously corny tone making good fun of its absurdities, THAT is the videogame, hell just the sound design and sound mixing prove how objectively better the new film is compared to these short films, you can just put both side by side and analyze these aspects. The new film wasn't good, at least not solid good, it was a mix for me, but it translates the game to film media far better than this.
@@Gabagu Well then we have to agree to disagree. I play the games too and while I did enjoy the blood, guts, and fatalities as a kid, I was more invested in the character's backstory and different characters endings as I grew older. I prefer MK: Legacy and the original 1995 MK more than the current movie because they objectively follow the games by having a tournament. Before you say these short films don't, MK: Legacy is a web series and there's a 2nd Season. While again it's dirt cheap, the 2nd Season still went along with having a tournament with what little budget they had. I mention tournament because that's what Mortal Kombat is all about. A tournament. Point blank period. As someone whose played the games you would know the storyline is about having a tournament to decide the fate of Earthrealm. Every Mortal Kombat game had this storyline. From the original game all the way to MK 11. The current movie, while it did acknowledge the Mortal Kombat tournament, no tournament ever took place. Which not only took me out of the movie but many others like Andre (whose comment we're replying to). And to me there's no excuse to say "well the new movie is covering up for a lack of budget" because if a dirt cheap web series like MK: Legacy was able to do a tournament along with the PG-13 MK from 1995, why not this current MK movie? Say what you will about previous MK film adaptations but there's no denying the current MK lacked a legitimate tournament, something that was crucial in the games.
This actually explained scorpion and subzero’s rivalry way better, rather than in the 2021 movie version... they were pitted against each other by non other than Quan Chi, but the movie doesn’t quite explain that....

I thought it would be cool that they made Sub-Zero the actual killer, but then they just made the blandest character possible and didn't to anything new or interesting with their rivalry A reason for Sub-Zero to have killed an entire clan, including children? Nah, he's just that much of an asshole, why bother giving him personality, cool visual effects should be enough

The kicks subzero uses @ 1:48, 1:53, 2:13 if you slow mo the vid u can simply analyze how 2 perform the move which I think the kicks are easy with progression. @2:07 if u wondered what sub0 did there how he managed 2 have scorpion in an arm lock he flips him with his legs while being grabbed by scorpion who I'm assuming tried to get him in a head lock or body slam him which failed resulting in being countered possibly by jujitsu from sub0.
Thats because they did a slight incorporation of the original game sound into it. I still think the new one looks good, but how they did the move here is 100% sick af, especially the way it was sort of a counter and he slid into it. Perfectly choreographed.
@@juanpalacio7068 You can thank Larnell Stovall for that. Dude's fight choreography is top notch. He doesn't get enough credit. All one has to do is look at his resume to see his works.
@@wilykat Going to look into that, for sure. This whole scene was impressively orchestrated, and as a HUGE scorpion fan since the original game was released when I was a kid, this scene did the character hella justice.
Nah... Theres no budget in series format to make it decently. I appreciate the spirit behind this series, but they lacked on visuals and costumes...and here we are talking about human fighters. Now, imagine Fulgore, Sabrewulf, Cinder, Glacius, Spinal, Riptor...more than half of the cast would be unaffordable with this budget.
Strange how this was better then the 2021 opener in practically every way, better casting choices, better costumes, better fight choreography then the over exaggerated stereotypical action movie fighting, better special effects despite the smaller budget, the raw emotion from the actors was enough for me especially when scorpion gets back to the village which they tackled down right perfectly and unlike the 2021 film they actually STUCK TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL.. no Cole young, kept Quan chi as the mastermind behind it all allowing for a better plot in general. This series as a whole was quite mid but the base they had made especially for the scorpion vs subzero plot was top notch and I would’ve preferred this being turned into a movie over the shit pile we got.
only problem here..... he communicates as Quan Chi as he is frozen and can hear him, but can't see him morph into Quan Chi before he's fully frozen? Damn I guess Scorpion is the pawn the games make him out to be
I always find it funny how Scorpion and Sub-Zero are from like the 14th or 15th century and yet here they are in modern day in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Do they time travel or something?
They're from the 1900's (as the tournament takes place around 1990) so it's more a case of them having a strong sense of honour and duty from the past. Which makes sense, in some regard...
Yes it makes no sense. The game sticks in martial arts mythos because it sounds cool to have ninjas, gods, sorcerers and monks. When you try and explain it in a modern setting with fleshed out backstories it's going to sound stupid.
Well Scorpion is dead, so aging is out of the question. And Sub-Zero is a half-human, half-cryomancer, who are an entirely different race from Outworld, who may not age as fast as humans do...
Actually the ending was perfect... Quan Chi actor also did a very good job for the role: acting is top-notch... sadistic notes in his voice and similar facial expressions look pretty believable... I think they should axe out 90% fighting, and make this a standalone story :)
It's actually embarrassing when you think about it. A cheap web-series nailed the story from the games better than a $55 million dollar movie that has been in production since 2015.

*If you check out the movie, Beyond the Black Rainbow, the same actor (plays the character, Barry Nyle), suits his character MUCH greater!
You need a black guy to play Quan Chi
I think to , but the voice its really good, Chin is a ... that hajaja I don’t know the word in English but the point is , for me this voice is not te be do KRATOS voice , Chi look like a really guy who just want fuck other want, he no need a strong voice, have that actitud and the body is perfect cuz is not a marvel muscular guy , it’s a MK GUY hechicero , Just evil.
same his mk 4 voice was amazing so scary his mk4 look was his best
then we can try a base sounder or what do you prefer
BRING THIS SHOW BACK!!!! ⚔️🔥💪🏻
This is better then 2021 mk movie
Its more attractive to watch than the 2021 MK
The kicks subzero uses @ 1:48, 1:53, 2:13 if you slow mo the vid u can simply analyze how 2 perform the move which I think the kicks are easy with progression. @2:07 if u wondered what sub0 did there how he managed 2 have scorpion in an arm lock he flips him with his legs while being grabbed by scorpion who I'm assuming tried to get him in a head lock or body slam him which failed resulting in being countered possibly by jujitsu from sub0.
Done right Netflix would be on to an absolute gold mine with MK
Who came here to rewatch this in 2021 after they released the Mortal Kombat trailer?
2:29 Hanzo's Kunai throw looks and sounds so much better than the upcoming movie remake version.
How about a Killer Instinct Legacy series next..
"Mace : The Dark Ages" would be cool too. 🗡 🔪 🔨
@@krishelfferich3087 I would Love To See that 🗣 ULTRA COMBO
That would be sick AF.
Imagine if other fighting games had mini live action series kinda like this?
Nah... Theres no budget in series format to make it decently. I appreciate the spirit behind this series, but they lacked on visuals and costumes...and here we are talking about human fighters. Now, imagine Fulgore, Sabrewulf, Cinder, Glacius, Spinal, Riptor...more than half of the cast would be unaffordable with this budget.
dean pelton really out here killing it as the bald demon man or whatever
Quan Chi. A sorcerer.
Imagine if just before he reached the village, a courier appears with a letter and a sum of gold. "Looks like that's it, got to go."
Absolutely beautiful, wish it was way much longer.
Sub zero is my favorite character in MK. Especially when they made him unmasked
Mine as the honoruable one Kiuai Lang not Bi Han
Ian Anthony Dale was best as Hanzo Scorpion in Mortal kombat.
It's tradition for me to comeback every year to watch this.
Scorpion be like Get over here! Come here!
Sub-zero i will freeze your soul!
it's great to see that legacy 1 has aged well.
and now on to legacy 2...
Better than the actual movie
@Makani Stuart yes
THAT WAS OFF THE FUCKING HOOK!!!!!!
Saddest scene in legacy
So MK Legends Scorpion's Revenge is coming out soon. Its good to remember this gem.
I wouldn't call this a "gem". This web-series was mediocre at best.
this made me cry! ;( 😢😢😢😢😢
He lost everything, except his honor.
Sub zero forgets Scripion has a Clan!!
I WANT MORE SCORPION!!! DAMN IT!!
Quan Chi is the Lex Luthor of MK
who's here after the new mortal kombat trailer??
Me
Me :)
Honestly, I liked the concepts in Rebirth and Legacy so much, the new trailer disappoints me...
Meeeeeeeeeeee hehe
@Fatnan Aziz Small budget, not homemade
6:20 [Inserts coins] Choose Your Fighter.........”Scorpion”
only problem here..... he communicates as Quan Chi as he is frozen and can hear him, but can't see him morph into Quan Chi before he's fully frozen? Damn I guess Scorpion is the pawn the games make him out to be
2:39 Loved this part of the scene. A great memory from my childhood!
What this really needed was for Quan-Chi to go "Uuuuuuuuuhhh"
Quan Chi: I’m about to end blu boi’s whole career
Quan Chi 2015: I’m about to bring back blu boi’s career
I always find it funny how Scorpion and Sub-Zero are from like the 14th or 15th century and yet here they are in modern day in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Do they time travel or something?
They're from the 1900's (as the tournament takes place around 1990) so it's more a case of them having a strong sense of honour and duty from the past. Which makes sense, in some regard...
They immortal lol 😂
Yes it makes no sense. The game sticks in martial arts mythos because it sounds cool to have ninjas, gods, sorcerers and monks. When you try and explain it in a modern setting with fleshed out backstories it's going to sound stupid.
Actually it might be cool. Theres some communities like scorpions and sub zeros in Asia. They re like the asian amish, rural and ancient.
Well Scorpion is dead, so aging is out of the question. And Sub-Zero is a half-human, half-cryomancer, who are an entirely different race from Outworld, who may not age as fast as humans do...
If only the movie could have had this exact segment!
It's similar though but not as in depth.
The classic spear to Down 2 combo
Actually the ending was perfect...
Quan Chi actor also did a very good job for the role: acting is top-notch... sadistic notes in his voice and similar facial expressions look pretty believable...
I think they should axe out 90% fighting, and make this a standalone story :)
Im on scorpions side for the shirai Ryu!
MovieTrailes 01 traitor the lin qui will find you
MovieTrailes 01 Scorpion for LIFE!
same here, I've always been a sub-zero fan but fuck his portrayal in this series just makes him look like a POS
You do realize the Lin Qui had nothing to do with the death of scorpions clan
Sterben1942 they actually did, quan chi made a deal with the grandmaster to wipe out the Shirai ryu
I still think this version was better than the new movie they released
I like how they design the costume different, not like the old movie
The old movie's costumes were based on the costumes from the games. They looked like how they were supposed to...for the time.
Watashinonamaeha.... SCORPION!!
Koko o norikoeru (Get Over Here)!!!
This is better than the new movie
Which is embarrassing when you think about it. A cheap web-series nailed the story from the games better than a $55 million dollar movie.
Nope
Godzilla and Mortal Kombat- The 2 movie-series they just never got right
I fucking love how he refers to sub-zero as bi han (the original sub-zero / Noob Sibot)
Why do I feel the pain for hanzo
I love this, but I feel like scorpion would have run to his family when he realized nobody was protecting the village instead of fighting Bihan.
"...Your inferior Shirai Ryu"
He sounds just like Tyr Anasazi of the Kodiak Pride, out of Victoria by Barbarossa.
1:15
3:25
At least Hanzo knows his manners
haha:D
Please bring this show back!
waaaaaaaaaaay better than the 2021 movie version.....................
It's actually embarrassing when you think about it. A cheap web-series nailed the story from the games better than a $55 million dollar movie that has been in production since 2015.
@@dondreg16 the beginning of the 2021 movie was good and so were the costumes but after that not so much. I liked some things but it just wasn't it.
That “Get over here” could’ve been better tbh
This series was fucking dope. Going to be very impressed if the upcoming movie tops it.
Well the trailer just top this can't wait for the movie
@2:34 that spear of scorpion 🔥🔥even better than the movie itself
i still love SUBZERO, far way before SKORPION.
Both of their uniforms (outfits?) are sick
1:41 I need to know this music!
This is so much better then the new movie unfortunately!
This series was amazing!
No, it really wasn't. It was mediocre at best.
So all that time scorpion was in his own hell. Holy crap
Quan Chi using transformation powers is something that is wrong here, that only can be done by Shang Tsung, the rest is wonderful done!.
Scorpion : u kill my family, now u turn
Sub Zero : damn bro.. What did i do?
quanchi will feel my wrath. he tricked scorpion. and made sub zero lool guilty of the such murder of his clan shira ryu.
Jamaal Muhammed SCORPION'S THE SHIRIRYU'S CHAMPION
OMG where have I been? Never heard of this show! Now I've got to binge watch it
I just keep living for the hope that Hollywood will finally see the great potential of making a movie about the MK lore, pls Lord dont forsake me, I hopefull have 60 years to go...and wait... xD
If you haven't heard new MK movie april16 2021... Some pics on the web and trailer soon
It's on bluray, and on steam
