David Bowie once said that, much like with the Velvet Underground, not a lot of people bought the Pixies' albums - but everyone who did, started a band. The Pixies have been name-checked by Nirvana, Radiohead, and many more alternative bands as a key influence on their music. It would be well worth your while to check out their songs. I'd suggest Tame, Gauge Away, Hey, and Wave of Mutilation. To name but a few.
Yes, the Velvet Underground would be worth to be checked out. Not that successful back in the mid 60's, they were too much ahead of their time. But super iconic. They invented hard rock guitar as well as the entire alternative sound of the 80's and 90's.
Dang bro.. Radiohead has been my favorite band for a long time now and still is and I 've been loving Pixies too and I never knew they looked up to Pixies... That's really cool bro...
This video is from 'Trainspotting'. The video I actually associate it with is from the movie 'Fight Club' - the closing scene. Either way great song, hearing it performed live from this band was a surreal experience me.
You must also check out The Breeders - CannonBall, Lead singer is Kim Deal, who is the Bass Player for the Pixies. Her Twin sister Kelley also plays for The Breeders.
oh, hey, i didn't know that the lead singer was kim deal. and people warn me against wading through comments on youtube. pffft. i might never have known this otherwise, and i'm grateful to you for teaching me.
@@kimbunchalastnames5357 I didn't know that either! And comments on Jovaughn's videos are usually safe. Occasionally, people create drama because *gasp* Jovaughn has broad tastes in music. Aside from that...

This is one of their iconic songs, with scenes from the movie "Trainspotting" in this video. Pixies were like nothing else. A whole genre in and by themselves. The should be in all the halls of fame. Check out "Debaser" next...
The great Pixies. You are enjoying Black Francis singing, Joey Santiago is killing it on guitar, and Kim Deal is using that bass like a weapon and thats her in the background singing. check out Gigantic.
I love "Wave of Mutilation," the "Pump up the Volume" movie soundtrack version by this band. As well as "Gigantic," "Hey" & many others too. I saw them live at The Palace of Auburn Hills when they opened up for U2. Awesome show!...
Solid choice for the first Pixies song to react to, as it's one of their most popular and accessible tracks (slower tempo). Pixies has a huge discography of groundbreaking songs to choose from, but 'Here Comes Your Man' and 'Monkey Gone to Heaven' were two other more mainstream tracks (relatively speaking!) to react to before getting into their more intense stuff.
One of my favorite songs of all time ! I was so suprised and amazed when I saw Pixies live for the first time in 1988 , loved the energy and vibe of the band .
Frank Black / Black Francis / Charles Thompson is the singer and main songwriter for the Pixies. He continued to make solo music , and is very prolific and always trying new things.
I love the occasional discordance in Pixies music when they hit Hard like they do. Things don't always have to be smooth and pretty.. Pixies were AND still are huge to me!
Pixies, I've been obsessed ever since I first heard them. Some people discovered them on the Trainspotting movie soundtrack, some people discovered them on the Fight Club soundtrack. I was a little late to the game with them, but that's only because they weren't being played on the radio like they should've. My brother said, "The Pixies? You know they only have the one good song, right?" I almost disowned him for that comment.
Pixies are a favorite band for me. 'Velouria' 'Wave of Mutilation' 'Gigantic' 'Monkey Gone to Heaven' 'Hey' 'Here Comes Your Man' are all good Pixies songs. Enjoy your exploration into the best indy rock band there ever was. ✌️
Pixies arrived on the Scene just as I started university. They were my favourite band from then on. They had a massive influence on alternative and indie music. They invented a sound that was copied so much that it's easy to forget how revolutionary it was.
Trainspotting is a great movie with a fantastic soundtrack. You should check it out! I'm not sure why it's being used for this song. I don't recall it in the movie.
The whole of the album Doolittle that this track is from in just incredible. Visuals from the movie Trainspotting, a cult classic shot in Scotland with a young Ewan McGregor
Thanks so much for reacting to one of my favorite bands of all time. You could react to anything off of the Doolittle/Surfer Rosa album and have us raving. Truly one of the most unique sounds out there.
Awesome, more PIXIES! The footage is from the Train spotting movie. The guy is Ewan McGregor. Great band influenced many huge bands like REM, Kurt Cobain and David Bowie to mention a few.
Check Out Silver Bullet (Official Audio), Los Surfers Muertos (Official Audio), Plaster Of Paris (Official Audio) All I Think About Now (Official Audio) By The Pixies
That long long pause before the answer, "waaaaay out in the water, see it swimmin'" has such great tension. Love the song, the band, the reaction. Thanks!
Iconic! I always thought, these woo-oo sounds were a loop, but in live recordings you can see that bass player Kim Deal constantly makes them with her mouth. This kind of adapted 70's prog rock electric guitar sound was new to alternative music back then. Later, the entire grunge music of Nirvana et al of the 90's was based on guitar sounds like that.
Pixies were the main influence on Kurt Cobain and specifically on “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. They’re also the official bridge between 80’s alternative music into the 90’s.
Omg I love Gigantic. The bass line throughout is perfection. Discovered them at 17, in the early 00’s, bit late, but I was too small when they were big! Not listened to them in ages. Time to get back to it!
One of the most important songs ever...it was in Fight Club and Trainspotting and there is even a documentary about it, loud quier loud. It started Grunge!
there was a "Senior skip day" that, in my time (1993) the school just accepted & allowed this one day 2 weeks before graduation to "skip school" for one day, & most everyone went to Cedar Point (being from Cleveland, OH) & we just rode all the roller coasters & rides etc & it was a 90 min road trip.. we blasted THIS song as well as "Wave Of Mutilation" by the Pixies en route.. it is literally an indelible memory i cherish, so yes: thank you! also, check out "Wave Of Mutilation" by them.. cheers!
Basically, you can start with anything off of Doolittle. Everything people have listed here. They were pioneering in the a-typical song structure and use of dynamics. Their documentary was even called Loud Quiet Loud. Every rock band you love, loves them. Nirvana was starting to write a Pixies song when they wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit. That's how much the Pixies mean to rock music. Also, this song was in another iconic movie: Fight Club. When they are blowing up the banks at the end.
Great reaction! Pixies, possibly my favorite band of all time, 30 years running! Too many great songs to name! I recommend "Hey", "Velouria" or "Greens and Blues".
Huge influence on quite a number of 90´s rock bands. Others mentioned Nirvana, Blur certainly took inspiration from them as well. And while we´re at it, BLUR "Music Is My Radar". Please go with the official video.

@@wolke9270 I love their song “Pale Blue Eyes.” They’re definitely not listened to enough. Neither are the Pixies.

pretty sure he never said that, he loves the pixies though
“ when I heard the pixies for the first time , I connected with that band so heavily that I should have been in that band “ Kurt Cobain

Criminal Minds, episode where a guy is making human marionettes. This song but only in piano.
Exactly! I hear that opening and I picture the scene from Fight Club like every time.

Ah, I thought it was Trainspotting. It's been many years since I've seen that movie.
I saw them live in 2005, Weezer and Pixies this was the second closer but the first closer was Debaser great tune...
Also they played Los Angeles which is a Frank Black solo song which was pretty awesome....
A band so influential they triggered one of the biggest changes in modern music.
One of the best bands ever. Hands down.
💯
You've lost your mind.
Tru Dat!
It was music like this in the late 80s that helped create the 90s flavor.
My dad bought this record back in 1988 hé gave it too me when i was 17 i stil have it it one of my top 10 albums of all time
Great tune, great band. I'd recommend "Monkey gone to Heaven" by them.
Frankly, the entire Doolittle album.
The great Pixies. You are enjoying Black Francis singing, Joey Santiago is killing it on guitar, and Kim Deal is using that bass like a weapon and thats her in the background singing. check out Gigantic.
When Kurt Cobain wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit he said "I was basically trying to rip off The Pixies."
I love "Wave of Mutilation," the "Pump up the Volume" movie soundtrack version by this band. As well as "Gigantic," "Hey" & many others too.
I saw them live at The Palace of Auburn Hills when they opened up for U2. Awesome show!...
You have hit all my favorites from them. I kick myself every time I think of missing them in concert!
Now I want to watch Pump Up the Volume again. Such a defining movie for us alt kids at the time.
Loved the slowed down version in pump up the volume!
Good picks, I still think "Hey" is my favorite by them.
A BIG BIG LOVE!
Kind of song you want to drive late at night too, around bends in the country.
Good film too.

Greetings from South Africa! Saw them live in 2017 when they had a huge concert in Johannesburg.
I hear this song and it's a flash back to Fight Club. So good. The sound takes you away.
So much great indie and alt music from the early and mid 90s. It was a grand time. Well at least for music.
Love the pixies. Thank you.
This band has had a MASSIVE influence on music. Cannot be understated.
You should react to Violent Femmes. They’re also amazing.
Songs like Add It Up, Blister In The Sun, Kiss Off.

They used versions of it in the movie Fight Club and the series Mr. Robot.
The visuals are from the movie Trainspotting.
