Great video. My brother's tip is to use an LED battery-powered lamp to shine along a wall for painting or papering. It shows any bumps or where you've missed pasting, painting or whatever. Room lighting is seldom good enough to see what you are doing.

Furthermore, the days of mixing the adhesive and working the pasting table would be lost on a lot of the so call deccies today. Glad I learned the old way.

Spachuler an snap of Stanley blades on cutting in to ceilings, bottoms and corners all the way better than scissors 👌

Hi Phil, I've noted that 'mil / half mil' shrinkage more since the wider introduction of 'paste the wall' wallcoverings. It's as though they've attempted to make paperhanging easier for your average DIYer. Dunno? Another thing, when I was an apprentice 82-85 they used to make papers with a dark backing close to the primary dark colour of the face. That was a great help for tear joints etc. All best mate, Phil

Ive never seen that, but what a great idea, it must jave been handy.
I have hung a Swedish paste the wall paper that had a printed grid on the back which made cutting dry lengths a bit easier...that was about 25 years ago, never seem it since.

Albany reinforced paste the wall liner you can't beat it! IMO i always use yellow top as well.

Hi Phil, great video, thanks. What "paste on wall" paper would you recommend simply to cover a plastered wall and paint in a solid neutral colour? i can't seem to find a plain (white/cream) paper to hang vertically - or to know what thickness.
Would the Albany 140 lining paper you mention do the job?
    Thanks.

      Why does it need Lining?
      Can it not be painted?

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator son has first house, 80s build, took out the electric fire and mantle surround to find a big badly knocked out hole where the original inset gas fire was. Walls are already lined and painted, plasterer says he can't fill the hole and render whilst the paper is still on. Started to strip the wall and it's bare plaster in places, and old yellow (not that the colour matters 🙂) paint in many patches. Son is broke, can't afford to render the whole wall, so was looking to repaper and paint. Just to add, he only got the keys last Friday. Thanks.

I'm looking for a video on uneven walls, but every video uses perfect newly built walls and there is nothing about a wall where you put metre rule on it, and there's a 5mm gap either end and the paper then won't paste to the wall without a crease.
Please do a video on uneven walls because it would be the only one on here !

I've photos on Instagram and Facebook with walls internal and external that are way out.
Have you watched my other videos of wallpapering into internal corners... Using a laser liner?

year ago BeeLine did lovely ones, with a nice pointed end, really sharp too.. (I still have some, but they have worn) Now they're notthe same. :(
You do get use to them,
I'm currently using FatHog shears, but they too don't seen avaliable.
I like the slender pointed shears, light weight and easy to handle.
I know there's the Axus ones about now but in comparision they do feel more like a Tailor's set od shears than a decorator's.. as they do feel quite chunky.
So I'm a bit on the fence.
