    Every time I have an asthma attack it triggers my anxiety causing duel attack. It's terrifying because it feels like I am going to die.

    I am a firefighter EMT and over the past year I've been sent home because I was unable to complete some of the difficult training. One of the obstacles is having to crawl through a box that is too small for a human to fit through so you get trapped and still have to fight your way through. That was the first one I failed. With tremendous shame and the fear of losing my job I was sent home. I secretly thought I was having "panic attacks" there was no way I was going to share that information. Now after being sick several times this year my doctor said he thinks I have asthma. he said we will be doing some breathing test soon. As bad as it sounds I really hope it's asthma cuz my career and my reputation are almost destroyed. "Stress induced asthma" I think it is a thing. Symptoms severe muscle pain in back and chest and very short breaths

      If the treatment for asthma does not help you, then consider seeing a therapist for anxiety.

      It's been just over two years this is the update
      1. the training personnel that were trying to destroy my career are no longer working at our department.
      2. I still get anxious even though the new trainers have showed no sign of narcissistic behavior.
      3. Looking back over my life I have always been a top performer at the things I applied myself to, yet I have always had anxiety and fear when being tested in front of my peers.
      4. I put myself in the gym on a regular basis and built my cardio and my lung capacity to the point while being tested by the specialists they said I have 130% lung volume.
      5. The past 5 years life has been so demanding working two full-time jobs and raising four children. That I have reached for every over the counter energy drink or stimulus I could find to get me through another day. I'm sure this has been a chemical source of anxiety.
      6. My level of sensitivity to smells and airborne irritants must be many times greater than those around me.
      My coworkers friends and family would all just look at me like I was loosing it when I complained about the air quality in our house , at the fire hall, in the garage, and shop area. Thankfully I was able to purchase a gas displacement monitor off of Amazon. My home had a propane leak, the fire hall had a sewer gas backdraft, the Bay area was contaminated with both sewer gases and a leaking fuel tank, and the shop had a natural gas leak.
      A coal miner's "canary" am I.
      7. Over the years my doctors have had me on a combination cocktail of antidepressants my new doctor changing the main one eliminating the others. Dr. beliefs it is contributing to anxiety and blood pressure.
      My wife just finished college starting her new career.
      I still love my job as a firefighter.
      Still suffer from sinus headaches migraines and occasional silent panic attack.

    I agree with everything except, please be aware that excess use of your inhaler can raise your heartbeat and if you take any medication that can cause higher heart rate you could have a disastrous situation. No one ever talks about how bad albuterol can be.

    Is it unusual for an anxiety attack to go for longer than 10minutes ? I went to the hospital yesterday as I was short of breath doctor listened to my lungs and she didn’t believe it was asthma even though my local doctor prescribed me with an inhaler the day before. Best to note that when I was short of breath the inhaler did nothing for me, and I’m not sure if it was because I was home alone for the first time after having a virus that I began to panic ?

    Other times when i presume they were Asphma attacks i couldant walk to the kitchen 6 feet away without getting really badly out of breath.
    I was working as a groundsman at a park when they started.

    • @AnxietyBoss
      @AnxietyBoss  Рік тому +1

      It's possible that the shortness of breath you experienced during those episodes was related to asthma. Asthma can cause difficulty breathing and shortness of breath, especially when triggered by factors such as exercise or exposure to allergens or irritants. As a groundsman, you may have been exposed to allergens or irritants such as pollen, mold, or dust that could have triggered your asthma symptoms.
      If you are concerned that your symptoms may be related to asthma, it would be a good idea to speak with a healthcare professional. They can evaluate your symptoms, medical history, and perform any necessary tests to provide an accurate diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment. In the meantime, it may be helpful to identify any triggers that seem to worsen your symptoms and take steps to avoid them as much as possible.

  • @70sstreetracer

    Ive been having panic attacks for ten years- first one i didant know what it was- i got sent for chest xray then to heart and lung section at Hospital then a day stay with stuff feeded into my arm to make my heart race- they couldant find anything wrong and asked me if i had been having anxiety latly (i said yes as my mum and dad had been very ill.
    I didant have another panic attack to nearly 3 years ago when i had lots at work.I was put on medication and later diognosed with Generlised Anxiety- things were better then to last year when i got sent home from work 6 times in a year and been off weeks in total.I was put on differant medication- everything was ok for 7 weeks to i had a massive attack that wouldant go away like you say a panic attack does- this wouldant stop even sitting down so i got taken in on blues and twos - spent 9 hours being treated in A n E then stayed in for 6 days in Hospital- this time they said it was Asthma and was serious.
    So i think looking back all the others were panic Attacks as went off within say half how.They later said i may have Panic disorder.So do you recon its stress induiced Athma?

    • @AnxietyBoss
      @AnxietyBoss  Рік тому +1

      It is possible that stress-induced asthma could be a contributing factor to your symptoms. Asthma is a respiratory condition that can cause breathing difficulties, coughing, and wheezing. Stress and anxiety can trigger asthma symptoms or exacerbate existing asthma.
      However, it is important to note that panic attacks and asthma are two distinct medical conditions with different causes and symptoms. Panic attacks are often characterized by intense fear and physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, sweating, and shaking, while asthma symptoms include wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath.
      It may be helpful for you to discuss your symptoms and concerns with a healthcare professional who can evaluate your medical history, perform a physical examination, and order any necessary tests to provide a more accurate diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment.

    Sometimes if my inhaler isn't in my pocket when I'm out or like available if I need it I'll constantly think about where it is and I'll get asthma, but for me it's actual asthma and I'll have to go home or wherever and get my inhaler sometimes.

    I have both panic attacks and asthma and it’s so hard to tell when I’m having one or the other. I don’t want to overuse my Albuterol but I also want to use it and see if it’s asthma or panic. Sometimes however if I wait out what feels like an asthma attack it can go away and then I know it was a panic attack. I have a pulse oximeter I wonder if that Spo2 helps in determining if u are really having an asthma attack?

    Can an anxiety/panic attack read lower sp0 oxygen levels???? I rushed to the ER from labored breathing in my lungs and back and it read 93 and dropping. It went all the way down to 86... about 2-3 hours later it read 100-98 and was fine. I have a history of anxiety throughout this past year... so my initial question was in the heat of anxiety, can an oxymeter read lower oxygen levels?

    • @AnxietyBoss
      @AnxietyBoss  2 роки тому

      It makes sense- when you have a panic attack, you are breathing rapidly, and the faster you breathe, the more shallow your breathing becomes, and hence less oxygen in the lungs.

So in the 7th grade we had to run for PE and i ran out of breath immediately after a minute, I didn’t want to fail PE so I kept running but after 5 minutes of running I suddenly couldn’t breathe anymore so I panicked and that’s how it started, since then i had it difficult with breathing. Actually when I started 7th grade my school was 3 km away so i had to bicycle everyday to there, but i kept breathing while bicycling from my mouth because I didn’t get enough air from my nose, but since i started breathing from my mouth i also had short breathing so basically since i started bicycling i had panick attacks or asthma attacks and i don’t know wich one it is, can someone help me?
