I just wrote a comment about this but I feel like it makes sense that he would be the first to join in this movie. Given how he has that whole confession after the battle, a lot of this movie is him realizing how important his family really is to him. Normally whenever something like this would happen in other versions, he would just punch or yell at them, or at the very least, be the *last* one to join. But the battle starts with him loosening up and goofing with them, and it ends with his confession.

it's funny how such a great scene comes from such a lackluster movie. the film is very fast paced and it's so cool to see it slow down for a scene and just bask in the character performance. i could go on and on, i think this scene is incredible and always puts me in a good mood.
I disagree, I didn't find it lack luster. I actually thought this film was pretty enjoyable. The action was great, the humor in moments like this with the turtles made me chuckle

You know what? I actually like this scene because, the way it all starts, everyone is just nervous. They think that they might either fail the mission and let millions of people die, or they will die themselves because they're not ready to fight Shredder. They're essentially riding the elevator up to their doom/their grave as far as they know. And for a moment, Mikey decides to break the tension by being his normal, goofy self and one by one everyone joins him. Like yeah, it ruins the seriousness of the moment, but I mean if I was one of the Turtles I'd probably do the same thing. Because I'd rather try to lighten the mood and have some fun with my brothers on the way up instead of having the rest of them charge into the battle feeling completely terrified and anxious. "Hey if we're gonna die, I still wanna have fun with my bros." At least then, theres that pumped up, excited feeling when they charge out like they feel more motivated about their chances of winning. "ALRIGHT LET'S GO!!!" Idk, that's just me.
I noticed that Raphael who is always fighting with his temper and really hard on Mikey is first to join his tomfoolery. Despite his rage-prone personality he is first to admit being wrong or someone else having a good idea and Mikey's idea to release tension was brilliant. Great display of personality from emotional half of Turtles.

But here he's the first one to join in. And in this movie, I think it actually works and makes sense that he would do this, because from what I remember (i hsvent seen the full movie in a while) Raph had one of the bigger focus's in the movie and with his emotional confession after the battle, he pretty much went through the movie realizing just how much his family means to him. He charges out to go and rescue his brothers, and when he gets them back, I feel like him opening up about how much he believes in and loves his brothers starts in the elevator, becuase like he says, normally he would bully or push then away, surely whenever they did stuff like this. But now he's like, *I almost lost you guys and you're STILL acting like.......Ahh what the heck? (Beatboxing)*

Bro that's it you're in so right. The very first TMNT movie established in act 2 they could die. Splinter was captured and Raph almost died after getting beat into a coma. This was just a live action 90 min cartoon good in bits but not what was needed
People complain that this moment is out of place and kind of ruins the tension but given that this is a Michael Bay movie, you gotta appreciate whatever faithful character moments you can find. That's just my philosophy with movies like this, if it feels misplaced but also feels accurate to the original material, then it's a 50/50 win.
