I do disagree that you need to have 'killed it' as a personal trainer first at a big box gym. I was an average trainer at my gym but mainly because their model was terrible. Point is if you're passionate, talented, organized and risk tolerant, you can make it.
I’ve ran a smallish studio gym in UK for over 6 years, it’s been engaging but very tough! Listening to this was so relatable, thanks. Got young kids & just started UA-cam channel to diversify before they hit school ages.
@@brendanhorsman7680 I wish I’d made all my mistakes within the first 6 months rather than being more cautious and dragging them out over a few years. I could have found out what works and done what works a lot earlier if I was more willing to fail (learn) faster.
I’m an insurance broker during the week and waiter on the weekends. The point about making your money somewhere else is the most important thing you guys said. If your back is against the wall financially it’s so tough stay afloat with a gym
Mind PUMP should have their own public gym in California I think alot of people would go there especially if you allow UA-camrs to go there....I'm from the Caribbean lol would love to visit when I'm in Cal
I work in a small boutique local gym the last 4-5 years. If fitness is your passion I would not recommend it as a career path . It kills your passion. One word is sales. Getting rejected time after time when trying to close is super stressful. If you love fitness I would recommend just a regular 9-5 the consistency is so much better for your own fitness.
Ownership isn't for you then my friend. I've owned a gym for 12 years and sales is literally the easiest part. Your boutique gym probably has bad systems tbh.
Currently living in Thailand, I want to open a 24 hour gym since there aren’t many. I 100% know it’s not going to be profitable but I still want it lol
Don't believe it. You should go for it. Is it easy in the beginning? No. But I started with literally $1000 and we are doing very well. I have a full staff of trainers so I never have to be there. You will have to work a lot in the beginning. but you need to go for it.
@@GymOwnerJon how did you get the ball rolling? Did you pull out a loan? I’m thinking about going for it. I’ve got the brand figured out, I’m thinking about scouting for a building and then pulling out a loan for equipment and startup costs
@@GymOwnerJon this is literally the only relevant comment I've read so far. I'm a student gymnastic and I wanted to open my gym in my hometown where there are no gyms at all. Any advice for me GymOwnerGuy? Perhaps if I can get your email or WhatsApp number.
I think people make the mistake of doing the traditional gym rather than a CrossFit style type gym it’s so much equipment to spend money on and way more people who want to be healthy rather than bodybuilding

Calling it "a UFC MMA type gym" shows you have no idea about mixed martial arts. There is no money in combat sports gyms outside of the already established mega gyms. Coaches in smaller gyms are generally retired fighters themselves and more often than not do coaching as a side hustle and work regular jobs
@@hafsah6823 do you really think that would be good ? Like I have a feeling women wouldn’t want that. Don’t women go to the gym to sometimes meet male friends ? Obviously to workout but also networking ?
@@mando2.049 it would be a great idea. If they want to network they can stay at their current gym. Muslim women would also benefit greatly in a women only gym.

Sell juice in the bathroom and you’ll cover your costs.

I love the sales portion. If you have faith in your product then it comes pretty easy.

Which is more profitable in 2022: Gym Box or Studio ?!
Get a home gym and start small like a investment account. Slap the “private studio” title on it and boom! Lift with your buddies
Agreed and then expand when the doors are blown off.

Great chat fellas
big gyms aren't making money either. charging people ten bucks a month is ridiculous.
A big box gym would be rough from my perspective, but a bootcamp, or a 'well-run' crossfit, would be fine.
@@GymOwnerJon agree "well-run" is the key. gyms that i have gone to are run by people who could care less. very sad
Shared resource businesses are difficult in general.
