Wisecrack Doesn't Understand The Grinch (A Response Video)

- I was sent this recently by a fan on discord. I know it's past Christmas...and this was released a week ago. But I could not overlook this stupid. Wisecrack proves once again that they are nothing more than politically pandering morons who have about as much intellectual integrity as a spoon, and half as much intelligence. This so called philosopher who believes wars are a recent phenomena caused by the rise of nationalism, that One Piece's primary theme is our ability to alter our entire ideological outlook as needed to excuse our activism goals, and who argues that The Communist Manifesto is not a good source to research Communism, now argues that the Grinch was actually right, and that Consumerism is the meaning of Christmas because The Who's in the 2000 movie were super consumerist, and no one can offer an alternative on what Christmas is in the movie. He's actually so blind to the true meaning of Christmas, he challenges the audience to present a DIFFERENT movie that does have characters express it, and even asks his audience how the movie should have ended to be MORE anti-consumer and anti-capitalist.
If that doesn't prove the true intentions of this idiot, then I don't know what else will.
What saddens me more is that the video in question currently has over 3 thousand likes and only about 120 dislikes. The comment section is filled with people who buy into this moron's rhetoric. It's sick to imagine this idiot is trying to indoctrinate people. I'm so over Wisecrack....just so over them.
Mr wisecrack is the kinda guy to smoke weed once and and think he's the next Plato.
Yeah, I miss the other guy (dude with the long hair, I forget his name) who seemed to lean left but was willing to draw more centrist conclusions. This new guy just keeps sucking off Marx in every video and seems to be a straight up commie. It's why I unsubbed.
The type of guy to drink poison and think he's the next Socrates.
@@BlackMantisRed the kind of guy who reads a few pages on the Communist Manifesto and suddenly believes they are the ultimate expert in economics
I never wanted to back hand someone so much before…wise crack is ether trying so desperately to get people to think his way of politics or life that hearing him just hurts, and you cutting in is like a life line of logical and actually understanding.
Also does anyone else like to imagine raven knight pacing back and forth explaining to a group of audience using his halberd as a walking stick? Waving his hands around as he teaches us? No? Just me?…hope y’all had a merry Christmas!
I imagined it, you are not the only one.
Since the Mayor said the car he was offering was paid for by the tax payers, this goes beyond consumerism. The offer of the car was a sign of corruption from elected officials, who become rich by giving other people's money away generously.
"You are a philosopher as hitler is a humanitarian."
This had me cracking up. Love the vids Raven. Also.
"Do you even Christmas Movie"
Only thing to take from the Jim Carey Grinch movie is Jim Carey's hilarious acting and Cindy's/the end credit song (and that's coming from someone who grew up on it).
I’m now going to make an analytical essay on this movie just to spite Wisecrack now.
I believe sophist is the word for this wisecrack hack.
The type of person that actual philosophers hated.
The most commendable thing about this response video is that Raven was able to sit through this guy talking unnecessary bs constantly, sit down and make a solid counter argument, and then sit down again to edit it into a video.
Wisecrack reeeeeaaaally doesn't seem to be able to shut up.
Must have taken a lot of patience
Frustrated me a lot. Like, please wait until the scene is over to talk, or at least pause it to do so instead of talking over it.
Raven Knight you are my favorite internet historian. Its refreshing when someone uses their brain. also Miracle on 34th street is my new favorite chirstmas movie.
I enjoyed the Original Grinch. But I also enjoyed the Jim Carry Grinch. Sure the Jim Carry movie had some flaws but the message is still there. I enjoyed them both.
Let's agree that the Illumination Grinch was worse. -_-
Agreed. He's too NICE in that one!
@@magmos6346 yeah. Not to mention they made a rap version of "Your a Mean One." Which does not work. You can't just turn every song into a rap song.
@@magmos6346 Nice is not the same as good; though, in all honesty, I can take a nice Grinch who doesn't understand the holiday because of the Christmas clutter hiding it's heart, over an evil Grinch that was bullied on a holiday that's meant to share kindness to others, which the townsfolk failed to prove a point about the holiday... Yeah, it's a hard pill to swallow that I am giving a hard disagreement on Jim Carrey's version, but I just see the Live-Action film as Non-Canon to the original message of the book, because at least Illumination knows that the Grinch doesn't hate Christmas, but rather the Christmas Clutter, and people don't celebrate the holiday just on material position alone!
The crazy thing about even the live action Grinch that he's using to bash the meaning of Christmas is that it STILL has the main meaning of the story that Christmas isnt about just the presents or the activities or even the food, it's about charity, love, kindness, family, and all around the genoristy of good will towards man... or Whos, in this case. Otherwise the Live Action Grinch wouldnt realize that "maybe Christmas doesnt come from a store... Christmas, maybe, means something more."
As for my own opinion on the Live action Grinch, I thoroughly enjoy it as a film in and of itself... but I UTERRLY DESPISE IT as an adaptation.
As an adaptation, what are your thoughts on the Illumination adaptation? In my opinion, Illumination's adaptation did better at handling the moral, because the Grinch was more upset about the material posession, moreso than what the Whos *really* celebrate Christmas for.
Wisecrack: I’m a philosopher.
Me: ha, and I’m Socrates the father of philosophy.
Anyone else feel like they're listening to someone so preoccupied with being smart, they miss what's right Infront of them?
Definitely.
You're talking about Wisecrack, right?
@@almondjoy4938 yes
Okay, I have no idea how this guy not understand a 25 page children book? Like, did he only see the Jim Carrey movie adaptation? It's like with Cinemasins every time they are saying that the "Books Don't Matter" when in fact it's DOES matter a lot because without it, there wouldn't be the movie!
I don't know about that. Any story is that story in a vacuum. Lots of people will talk about how great Blade Runner is, but far fewer people talk about the book. That said, both are different enough to warrant two distinct analyses.
if he is jsut gonna ignroe the book atlest look at the chuck jone's animated version.
@@megamike15 Exactly!

Why read it? It doesn't fit his politics and isn't Harry Potter.
Maybe it takes Vin Diesel appearing on the screen to clue in Wisecrack that it's about family.

If that guy is a "philosopher", I am Aristotle reborn.
The number of times I flinched in pain. I swear this dude will give me an aneurysm.
The original cartoon Grinch will always be my favorite.
Kinda surprised you didn't bring up What a Wonderful Life when talking about Christmas Movies that have nothing to do with consumerism, and instead focus on the impact we as individuals have on one another, our family, our friends, our jobs, our communities, adaptations do this pretty darn well too, the VeggieTales adaptation carrying its own weight as well.
This so called "philosopher's" PhD must've come from a participation trophy.
Well said Raven, Bravo. Continue to speak the truth
why is his background more colorful than this mans expression

Wisecrack should retitled a communist struggling to understand.
I'm honestly wondering why people are referring to Wisecrack as a single individual, it's a whole group of people.
Great video and I had a great Christmas. Also, I do like both How the Grinch Stole Christmas live action and animated. Also wise crack showing Jingle all the way as a example for the store plot but in the end the kid gives the toy away to the guy and what he really wanted was his dad.
I see this response as a late Christmas gift.
Before I even watch I'm going to assume that he's saying the Grinch was a metaphor for indoctrination of nomads into warmongering and nationalism or something.
He probably studied philosophy from some online course
Probably skillshare!
The Jim Carrey version might've been a horrible adaptation of the original work of Dr.suess, it's still fun to watch.
Him commenting on the movie clips reminds me of reactionary content creators. No, not the ones who have something interesting/entertaining to say that adds additional value to the watched video.
FFS, ALL the problems the Wisecrack guy is complaining about are caused by corporatism and bad government policies, and the issues with Christmas being too consumerist is something that's pushed in defiance of and as a rejection of the Religious tradition of Christmas that's being complained about.
It's literally a person who's abusing the system complaining about the problems they're creating by abusing the system.
Here is another example scooby doo haunted hoilday
I had to watch one video of this guy in English class and the amount of wrong things said and just how he acts, ugh immediatly pissed me off.

Raven is saving the grinch now? Is there nothing he won’t correct people on?
Your text over his talking was hilarious. I wish he would shut up so people could hear the clip as well.
Imagine you and him were both watching a movie and he kept talking and talking and talking! Like shut the f*ck up Wisecrack!
Oi! Did he just call Die Hard a bad Christmas movie?!
I did not.
You know, for a group that doesnt like it when you call literal communism ideology communism because "its socialism". They really do like to call things what they are objectively not.
Going out of your way to give someone a gift? No thats not selflessness, its consumerism!
Why? Because muh bajillionare corporation was given money, and that means its consumerism!

I disagree with the argument that taking religion out of Christmas can lead to bad things. One good example I can think of where a story has Christmas but no mention of Christ or it’s origins is the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & the Wardrobe. Not once do any of the characters talk about Christmas in a consumeristic way. They actually celebrate Christmas in a meaningful way. Togetherness, happiness and hopefulness. Not once do they mention the important of materialism. In fact, you could say that Jadis the White Witch is destroying the meaning by taking everything that is dear to Christmas via the eternal winter she brings.
Anyway, my point is, it’s funny how Wisecrack didn’t use that as an example that contradicts their argument, but then again, this is Wisecrack.
Umm...you do realize that The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe the story drips with religion right? Thr entire book series is one big religious tract. So much that even the movie has religious elements no matter how subdued. Aslan is Jesus. The original cartoon and the books talk about Sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve. It was written by a devoted Christian that admitted he wrote it as allegory to interest children and engage them. Narnia is the worst example as Christmas without Jesus.
39:16 might be one of my favorite totally frustrated mentally taxed rants I've heard on the Internet. The pacing as which Raven ramps up with his energy levels is just chef kiss...and the choice of words also helped me enjoy the take down.
Wisecrack doesn't even hide his political bias, and can be demeaning towards the people that don't align with him, and it's very interesting that he considers himself an atheist and also a philosopher.
Rewatching this again made me think about Violent Night. I don’t know if many people saw it but despite the violence and crassness, I very much see it as a true Christmas movie.
Glad you had a good Christmas.
This Wise Crack guy is acting like he's a reaction channel
A particularly lousy one, at that.
Wisecrack is brian griffin of youtube
That makes so much sense…
24:38, honestly I can live with that scene.
I know the live action Grinch doesn't follow the Whos' knowing of Christmas' true meaning, but I say the story is told in a different way that is a different path to the same destination. And in fact the live action Grinch is my favorite version of the story.
It is still the Christmas season, as it continues on to the Epiphany at least. Remember that you can lead a progressive to facts, but you can't make them think.
Always funny and sad that communists struggle so much to understand basic decency and compassion. Only an "intellectual" would be stupid enough to be confused that the Grinch returns the stolen gifts. He is not joining as a mindless consumer, he is realizing it wasn't mindless. He sits there on the mountain and realizes the giant heap of stuff he stole wasn't the point. "I thought Christmas wasn't about presents!" It's not about the presents, but it is about gifts. They get their value from being gifts. So naturally, with his new understanding he looks back at his sleigh and sees how much he has to give back.
"What could he have done to see it all through?" The Grinch doesn't abandon the lesson of his own story to go fit in, he fulfills it by re-entering society and apologizing and loving and caring for every Who he meets. And they love him back. Why, they even let him cut the roast beast.
yup and failing that more highminded aspect purley plot wise he doesn't break consistancy
"maybe christmas is alittle bit more" is him saying maybe I was wrong

Basically, what the Grinch is saying, that to these infidels, materialism is the most important thing on Christmas, but in the end, their gifts will end up in the Who-Dump, which is at Mount Crumpit; the Grinch is so peeved, he had suicidal thoughts over it, especially when they're acting like a bunch of baby boomers, and that the Holiday feels nothing more than a terrible clusterfest, which is completely and utterly dumb.
You're welcome Raven, and all who read this.
Let me tell you what Christmas means to me. Several years ago I came into some money, how much doesn't matter, but it was enough that I could have bought christmas with a fraction of it then myself a bunch of crap. My mother's health has been extremely poor so I spent it all on a vacation me and her to Disneyworld in Florida. I've always loved theme parks and she once lived in Florida, always wanted to go back. In one of the parks is a camel that spits like the one off joke in Aladdin and I positioned her to get wet.
We were laughing about it, she felt better than she had for years because the climate helped her health issues, and I was able to take her somewhere cool. We still laugh about it, and I like buying her the shampoo and lotion that was in our hotel room.
Yes, it was expensive, but the expense wasn't the gift, the expense wasn't Christmas. The gift was us being able to play together, to have a memory for us to share, the time we were able to spend together, and yes, laughing at the animatronic spitting camel years after the trip was over. Christmas isn't quanitity and things, it's quality time with family. That's the little bit more Wisecrack lost out on.
15:54, it wasn’t a bad movie. It had some flaws as an adaptation but nonetheless it wasn’t a bad movie
I don't want to be be mean, but the Bruce Rittenhouse looks exactly what I assumed based on the shit he writes...
The only good thing the live action Grinch gave us is Taylor Momsen.

I mean technically taking christianity out of Christmas is not harming the holiday since the holiday itself was never about jesus or christianity in the first place.
Except that Christmas is “Christ’s Mass.” and is directly tied to celebrating the birth of Christ.
@@RavenKnightYT no historical texts or even the bible itself references the exact date of jesus's birth.
Although the bible does state that during this time the shepherds were herding their sheep, so unless the shepherd wanted his sheep to die it was likely spring not winter that jesus was born.
Originally the date of Christmas was a pagan holiday celebrating the winter solstice before the Roman's (specifically Pope julius l) declared it a Christian holiday.
So really Christmas was just another holiday that the Roman church converted and twisted into their own holiday to spread christianity.
Love your vids and im not trying to attack your beliefs or anything. Just wanted to point out that Christmas wasn't always about jesus.
No offense taken. However the "Christmas was pagan," myth has been debunked before.

ua-cam.com/video/DfcvJWPTY64/v-deo.html
@@RavenKnightYT I wasn't even aware of the Christmas tree being a pagan tradition thing.
While I'm not religious myself I did believe that December 25 was a pagan holiday that Christians stole, however after watching the two videos I see now that's it's more complicated than that.
The date did seem to be celebrated at this time but neither party seems to have proof that their side celebrated the date first, so I'll give you that much.
However one thing that those videos skimmed over was the birth of jesus is not known and seems that it was merely guessed by the church. Which is still not proof that December 25th is a celebration of the birth of christ.
However whether you believe Christmas is a Christian holiday, a consumer holiday or a holiday to celebrate the winter solstice, I'm just glad to have it since its its obviously the best holiday.
First
But seriously, I haven’t listened to Wisecrack but I can already tell it’s a shell for pushing ideals, am I correct?
It feels like the point of your video is to convince the viewer by repetition that Wisecrack doesn't know anything, while breaking up the sequence of their analysis too much for their main points to show through. For example, Wisecrack never said that the Who's were showing a correct version of Christmas. They were just following the movie's flow and connecting it to the points made by the writers they thought fit. Claiming a correct version of Christmas would be a weird thing for a philosophy channel to do anyway, since that'd be more of a religious or historical take. It also wouldn't fit with the piece, since How the Grinch Stole Christmas was mainly Dr. Seuss working through his own feelings about Christmas at the time. (In case you didn't know, the Grinch was supposed to be Dr. Seuss himself)
At 7:58 Wisecrack straight up says: "But does the Grinch offer us some type of non-religious account of Christmas that includes a critique of consumerism..." He wants the Grinch to be a critique of consumerism and chastizes the Whos for their consumerist attitude, while also comparing it to modern day and real world consumerist practices around Christmas time.
His goal was to use the Grinch in this video to critique consumerism, to point out that the Grinch was anti-capitalist, and that he should have thrown away the presence instead of returning it to them because it defeats the purpose of the message that he does.
I think their agenda was pretty clear.
You complain about everything.
Okay. Was I wrong though?
Criticism of how someone's argument is terrible is considered complaining?
