For all the guys saying he sucks, you clearly have not been down Lower A-Z. It’s steep and very technical. I was lapping up there today with a level 3 instructor/guide and we dropped Gutterball, which has a very similar drop in. he side slipped down the rocks, just like this guy, and he’s an awesome skier. This terrain is no joke.
Clearly all of the commenters would have triple back flipped in I mean look at the person as soon as they are in a place that’s not terrible coverage, they are clearly a very good skier lol
The hike and runs are so sketchy. I did 1st fork with the guide u skied little couloir with. It had snowed a lot, and there was better snow on three forks than anywhere else. The person still told me “don’t even turn, just slip the top.” Tells you how sketchy these runs are.
If the rocks were not so damn sharp in Big Sky he could have made a few turns at the top, but you don't want to screw up getting in, so good job on taken it easy and living to ski another day. The actual skiing he did was good those chutes are steep, fast and narrow.
Hello, To the person who filmed this video (FrontRow Steve). You dont have to convince me, the camera never does justice to a super steep ski slope. Awesome photography and even better skiing. The person skiing was just being tactical in the first 50 seconds of the video, nothing wrong with that. I think he nailed after that, again great job. By the way, Jimmydeez is spot on with his assertions.
I am going to defend the guy again saying am very certain none of the people writing negative comments have actual footage of themselves on double black . A- Z chutes is an actual double black with rough rocky faces. The internet is too fearless behind their computer screens.
I was in a road band and we played at Big Sky Resort. They gave us free ski rentals and lift tickets. I hit an icy spot at the top of a chute called "Little Tree". The edges on the skis were not sharp and I skidded about 1/4 mile all the way to the bottom and hurt my knee. The ski patrol was at the bottom when I came to a stop. He said, "You sure put on a go show". lol I managed to keep my skis below me but couldn't even see where I was going cause the snow and ice came up over my skis and obscured my view down hill. We played music at Whiskey Jacks and I had to sit on a chair to play my guitar cause my knee hurt so much. :)
Actually, he was getting into the appropriate position, which is the mark of an expert, not an amateur. An amateur would have dropped off of the rocks and crashed. You have to have a plan to ski a steep chute like that. If you fuck it up off of the bat, you rag doll the rest of the way down. Then you are at the mercy of whatever you run into.
One could argue the title is misleading but there's no conceivable way to enter this faster so I don't know how people are giving the skier any flak. There's a ton of exposure on this line and it's undoubtedly a no-fall zone. The entry is well-executed, interesting, and entertaining to watch. If you disagree, you're not into this type of skiing and just not the target audience for this video.
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The A-Z chutes are crazy. It is the camera angle that is throwing you off. These chutes are some of the steepest in-bounds skiing in the US.
Ok when you get to Big Sky I can take you up there and we will see. Its about 65 degrees at the top and jagged rocks that are barely covered up. You guys can huck it from the top and we will call the ski patrol to come clean you up.
Good vid, and good skiing. Anybody talking smack here obviously hasn't sat at the top of the chutes. I live in Big Sky now, and trust me, the A-Z's and Headwaters are no freaking joke. I'd love to see a proper video response filmed there from any of the posers talking trash.
Exactly lol. This is steeper and more importantly, narrower than it looks on the wide angle camera. BTW how is the big couloir? Seems like on a powder day it'd be relatively low risk. Otherwise I'm not sure I'd do it, even on a snowboard.
It's basically a vert drop entry and you have to shoot the rocks during the drop. If your not comfortable dropping in very for 15 feet then taking sharp turns it's treacherous. Looks like a fun place to ski. When in doubt, chicken out ski again tomorrow 😅😅😄
I think it is stupid that the internet giving the skier crap about this tough run (steep with sharp rocks). What is even more ridiculous is the fact that most of the people posting negative comment have video posted on green runs (more pointless videos).
hey idk why people are saying mean things. i really enjoyed ur video!!! thats looks super hard! i ski Bridger B. so i havent gotten a chance to see these shoots yet. but i have kinda explored most of BB so i think i might come here and try some skiing! looks sweet! you guys look like a good group of skiers id love to ski with u guys!
I agree this video could have been edited to one minute or less. As far as the difficulty of the line though, based on all the gopro skiing I've done (this looks like a gopro vid ya?), and the video I watched of these chutes from the normal perspective, they look like pretty full commitment "no fall" type chutes. Also, it looks like there could be some shark fins lurking in that first area of snow he steps down into which would make dropping into it a potentially really bad call. Nicely skied a
This reminds me of surfing some days. You could wait and paddle around for 3 hours and all your rides might total maybe 120 seconds. Well worth the tradeoff though
like he's not a bad skier, but i think the reason why ppl gave so many dislikes is because the title said "crazy skier" and the first 10 seconds made you believe that he's gonna bomb down the whole thing in lightning speed. But then, he didn't, so we were all disappointed. And ruining his skis in the process didn't help either, i mean, there's only about 1.5 meters of rocks, and it's all gravy underneath...
Good for your effort. As a former ski instructor I recommend building up to more challenging terrain, so you can learn at a level that isn't too challenging - adrenaline pumping. Brave to show your efforts. Keep it up and consider a few lessons - it will make skiing even more fun.😅
Ohhh God do I hate that feeling but love the reward! Nice turns on the way down! Don't listen to any haters that was fully legit albeit hard to watch (never is easy).
when i film, i flatten the horizon. It is certain that the slope is really huge n this place but the way of filming gives distorted images compared to reality. Which remains enormous, that's without any doubt. It's a really crazy place here.
yeah man - respect - I'll never do that. Even if I got good enough and thought I could pull it off. Just seems too risky - something goes wrong something goes REALLY wrong.
because its easier to go straight off the traverse than to pull a jump turn after climbing down the rocks. You'd be surprised how easy it is to mess up on stuff like that.
I get it took a long time but a to z chutes are steep as shit and you cant just bomb it right away. you have to get past the rocks at the top and then it is good
I have to admit - thought he was hesitating because he was a scared amateur in over his head trying to prove something...then at the very end of the video he put that thought to rest! Well done - impressive!
The conditions look great, I am guessing from the way he is standing up that the chute is around 50 degrees, maybe a degree or two less than that. It looks like the guy has the run totally figured out except the drop in seems pretty vile with what are probably a bunch of semi submerged rocks. Do these ever get packed in by skiers?
I’ll add, notwithstanding complaints but it is definitely worth showing the entire entry stepping down anchored by holding the ski patrol rope which I’m sure you edited cause it was all of 4 mins, but actual process probably longer but it’s very informative and honest. This crap of people editing videos and showing all these high speed descents is not credible as they edit out the ‘hard parts’ where they stopped, walked, side-stepped, slid on their arses etc. Excellent video, thanks .
Dont listen to these guys, I can tell that is a very steep line, he did the right thing and took his time , you can tell he is not only strong but smart. thanks for the post
Jeez, these comments are toxic. They just wanted to ski a extremely challenging run! And to add on, they didn’t change their mind at the top! They went in. I admit, yes, there should be editing, but still.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt, that sun-facing slope always is variable and could have bony, flesh tearing volcanic rock for the first 20 feet of that chute up to the constriction and being the first one of the day/season is always nerve racking. Most of you idiots commenting are gapers, tram downloaders and poseurs. If you would like to see for yourself, come hike with me on the other side of that ridge (the Headwaters) I'll be glad to show you around. (for a large fee).
Well I can safely say that I would be dead trying to go down that. Then again I live in Iowa and haven't been anywhere but Iowa or WI skiing. Hopefully that will change next season.
why don't you show everyone how you do it? That rope is there for a reason - you do not want to make mistake and tumble - this is not about impressing anyone but about having fun - once he cleared the rocks he did great
Not saying I wouldn't have chosen to take a different approach but its easy for all you to talk shit on this guy when the closest you've ever been to a "no fall" zone is UA-cam . A-Z is no joke in boney conditions like this but all of you CO front rangers and east coast weekend warriors wouldn't know bc you'll never make the trek
Was just there! Worth taking the chair that goes to the team for lookout… shit gives me chills… all the beacon, shovel, etc warnings - “expert terrain” danger signs. I’m decent on a board, fuck that 😂
oh wow double blacks that's intense!!!!! While obviously it would be steeper in real life, he did make it a lot harder than it needed to be. However, it's all good because he made it down in one piece and thats all that matters. As for the hate, you can't past a video on youtube without expecting some degree of hate.
All you "haters"? We're not hating really - just annoyed that someone lied to us in the title of the post. If the poster calld "My friend facing his fears going down a steep run" we would just thumb it down and call it boring. Better people than me should brag - "phenoms", not fourteen year-old intermediates.
Almost n turning skills seem needed - one could point and go fast and run it out? This just does not seem gnarly, unless you are an intermediate skier or an advanced skier who does not have the experience to realize this is within his capability. Is there some 65 degree drop or is it narrower than it looks, or what?
Where I agree he was a little timid at the top ( to say the least) and he probably didnt need a line either, Big Sky is a really exposed mountain where the conditions are super variable with hidden jagged rocks.. Ah yes, the infamous arm chair skiers... "Some say, that they can ski the highest gas peaks on Jupiter without any oxygen at all. All we know is they are called (insert name here).
Why didn't he just commit, drop from the lip, shoot the gap between the stones, pull a hard right stop-turn to slow down/stop (*if he felt the need*), and then continue carving or maybe doing jump turns? I don't know, if this is supposedly some gnarly chute, my perspective must be off.
Yo I ski, but the hardest thing I’ve ever done was a black, and it was almost as steep as a double black, but I’ve only been skiing one year, and I’m 13 so I think that’s pretty good, but props to this dude, I couldn’t do that
everybody can do blacks. Sometimes head first. The problem I have is doing them while staying in full control instead of a sort of panicked semi-fall :)
why so many dislikes: - boring - who want's to see so much waiting - it's not steep but sharky - jump over it! - there is an easy exit! - do you think if you sit down you won't slide down?! Ski edges are musch stable!
Hmm...you have a point about the over-dramatic title. "In too deep" - would have been better. But the kid did it anyway...and it is so much harder than 99.9% of the skiing population will ever drop. Why not just encourage the little grom?
This guy obiviously can't execute a jump turn, otherwise he would have been able to actually ski this chute. He climbed up there and got scared of the tightness and rocks. Pansy!!!
"drop in" is used very loosely here
Tucker Brown more like on rappel
Like you could “drop in” on this
Lol
Yeah I lost interest waiting
The guy's a definite Gak just drop and for Christ's sake

Cool man 👍
True. Many times I have not looked to smooth, yet I am a pretty good skier (ex instructor.) I take on challenging terrain.

I'm sure the camera angles make it look mellower than it really is. I imagine most of the people talking shit would be gripped in there.
yes they would
It looks mellow at first until he takes off, then it’s obvious how step it is with how fast he picks up speed.
If the rocks were not so damn sharp in Big Sky he could have made a few turns at the top, but you don't want to screw up getting in, so good job on taken it easy and living to ski another day. The actual skiing he did was good those chutes are steep, fast and narrow.
Taking it…
a to z chutes are no joke, my bro lived at big sky in 2000 and we shredded these ,and yes they are steep !! love big sky !!

if you turn your head about 45 degrees to the left you get an idea how steep it is.... cool the rudeness, kids.... please

You're welcome :-)

I don’t understand it. He took his time and executed it perfectly. 😂

cliffhanger :D

Wow, nice turns. He did a great job with his control in the fast paced zone.
You know you can ski right past those rocks :)
You do it big guy

Jerry did just about everything *except* dropping in.
What rope handle was he using to drop in over the cornice?
Did they bring their own rappel rope or is that fixed up there?
best thing I have seen today

You must be the gnarliest guy on youtube
I couldn't watch to the end. Does he slide the rest of the way down?
Oh and Mr. Nash, there are runs in VT that are steeper than A to Z. But none the less they are knarly
yeah man - respect - I'll never do that. Even if I got good enough and thought I could pull it off. Just seems too risky - something goes wrong something goes REALLY wrong.
I witnessed a fall from this area last March. The skier had to be sledded out.
Some say hes still sidestepping over rocks to this day
LMAO
We'll never know
because its easier to go straight off the traverse than to pull a jump turn after climbing down the rocks. You'd be surprised how easy it is to mess up on stuff like that.
Trying to get up the courage to board the A-Z chutes. Thanks for the video!
I never finished the video. Did he fall into it or did they have to pull him back up?
Sucks to be you. Watch the video you crybaby.
@@chrisallen2005 nah, it’s way to boring. I’m busy actually skiing. .
There's four minutes I will never get back!
Fast froward to 3:30!!! Trust me!!!
Amazing… I love to ski.. but couldn’t do that. High respect for yall
Well done - impressive!
he's moving very deliberately. definitely experienced.
Great skiing but is it worth ruining your skis for that?
would it be worse to ruin your life and maybe never touch a pair of skis again? absolutely fucking not
I hope his skis were brand new... I woulda just hopped lifted the skis and hoped that the core shots weren't too bad...
It's the Better Off Dead "K12," but steeper & with more rocks.
Nice man! Only one problem. It's way more than 45 degrees. =)
Skip to 3:30 for an anticlimactic finish. Never looks the same on video as being there. That much I can tell ya.
Once you are strapped in its really not that bad, its the hike in boots that will get to you
RIP to those skis when does he drop in
Is it too steep to hike down and clip in after that 1st set of rocks?
Far too steep to even entertain that
I’ll add, notwithstanding complaints but it is definitely worth showing the entire entry stepping down anchored by holding the ski patrol rope which I’m sure you edited cause it was all of 4 mins, but actual process probably longer but it’s very informative and honest. This crap of people editing videos and showing all these high speed descents is not credible as they edit out the ‘hard parts’ where they stopped, walked, side-stepped, slid on their arses etc. Excellent video, thanks .
Give the guy a break... it takes huge balls that most of you dont have to do that.
Anybody else think it looks a hell of alot longer then is acually was! But mad props to that dude.
Dont listen to these guys, I can tell that is a very steep line, he did the right thing and took his time , you can tell he is not only strong but smart. thanks for the post

Exactly. Why did I need three posts to say that? I was just puzzled by the title I was figuring I must be missing something.
No hate, but why didn't he drop in from the top?
Thought he was going to side slip the whole thing after 3 minutes of crawling out on to the slope
Well I can safely say that I would be dead trying to go down that. Then again I live in Iowa and haven't been anywhere but Iowa or WI skiing. Hopefully that will change next season.
This was the most painfully slow drop in give yer balls a tug
why don't you show everyone how you do it? That rope is there for a reason - you do not want to make mistake and tumble - this is not about impressing anyone but about having fun - once he cleared the rocks he did great
All you haters have posted videos of you doing it in those kind of boney conditions of course.....
Hold your screen diagonally, so the people standing appear vertical, as they should. Then you see how steep this really is.
I think i got worse at skiing by watching this. Now i have to ski brown shorts at revy fast tomorrow to make up for it.
We will be skiing there in Feb. No way in Hell would I try that. Kudos!
This is insane. Def would not ever fuck with that lol
Almost n turning skills seem needed - one could point and go fast and run it out? Where I agree he was a little timid at the top ( to say the least) and he probably didnt need a line either, Big Sky is a really exposed mountain where the conditions are super variable with hidden jagged rocks.. Ah yes, the infamous arm chair skiers... "Some say, that they can ski the highest gas peaks on Jupiter without any oxygen at all. All we know is they are called (insert name here).
That's the thing with the A-Z chutes, you only get it wrong once!!
When your buddy finds out you borrowed his skis that day.
Why did you film it for 4min? Nothing is there until the end!
after watching more of it he actually did pretty good
all that skiing skills but he had to do all that bullshit on the first 10 feet??? Just go bro! You got it!

Start easy and build confidence. If you stay in control your can ski until your 90s.
everybody can do blacks. Sometimes head first. The problem I have is doing them while staying in full control instead of a sort of panicked semi-fall :)
Dude: Bring your rock skis!
why so many dislikes:
- boring - who want's to see so much waiting
- it's not steep but sharky - jump over it! - there is an easy exit!
- do you think if you sit down you won't slide down?! Ski edges are musch stable!
thats actually really steep. the gopro makes everything look kinda flat
i enjoyed it.
What'd the prob? Looks like a chute barely making 40 degrees or so. Pretty weak.
Pansy!!!
Thrilling performance, please take care 👍
Good job or ruining the base of your skis.
still like the vid though. gotta be careful on the steep stuff. i was wondering how they were gong to navigate through that upper rocky part...

OK, any time you can see the curvature of earth from the top of your run, you may have gone too far.
Heck ya... that's bad ass...
