Wow NIce job, clean and clear good tempo great for Canadian step dancers Native and metis , ,hats off to the beutiful lady.Should come out to Jigfeast in Ontario on White Fish Bay First Nation.Thats one of the old time tunes we dance too.First nation/Metis fiddle music is like no other in the world.Cheers good ol tune
Really love watching you play, you make it look so easy.I've always enjoyed fiddle music, and enjoy it so much more when it's done in the atmosphere of your mama's house. Growing up we use to have these types of get togethers during the long winter months, you've brought back a lot of good memories.
finally someone that gets it! Metis is not about a static rhythm but instead playing like you were singing a tune . .. (for the inside) to let the natural rhythm of the music drive the (changing) beat not be a slave to the beat of the supposed back up instruments ,,,,, it is a hard tune to "right" and you play this tune very well ... thank you for the post
Awesome job!!! To the guy that said your pretty but a hack,,,,,,No, YOU are very beautiful,,,and a hack--Nope! Just beautiful and loves good music,,,and he is the hack... My dad was an amazing fiddler in Ontario in the Ottawa Valley in the 50's and 60's,,,,and when I was born in the late 60's,,,,as a kid I fell in love with his playing and learned the guitar to accompany him. Keep it up, and would love to see you play somewhere ?
You are so good! I have always loved watching a pretty young lady play some mean fiddle. Plus this is one of my favorite tunes, and you do it very well. Thanks for putting this up!
@airborneassasin Thanks so much! That's really sweet of you. Hopefully I can get some new videos up soon. These ones are getting to be a few years old! Thanks for watching. :)
The Metis people jig to lots of songs that aren't jigs at all. The Red River Jig is one of our main jigging songs when technically it isn't a jig at all. More of a reel. I know it probably sounds strange but just check out some metis square dance videos on here and it'll be easier to understand. :)
WHY AREN'T YOU FAMOUS YET ?.. I swear I'd rather listen to you than Ashley or Natalie any day. Clean , crisp defined notes awesome bow action..and ..well not hard to look at either. Awesome playing.. now lets get you a contract young lady !
@ stgoddardmusic:Yes, I should post a video sometime. In the meantime, check out Bodhran Expert on youtube. The teacher is Michelle Stewart from Nova Scotia and she is great.
I've been watching different versions of this on UA-cam trying to study up on it and giving myself a headache... I presume you're playing a Metis version of this tune. Maybe I'm tired and inundated with too much information, but apart from speed, how does it differ from the Irish version?
Not much difference to be honest. If anything, the metis version is just more about rhythm then precision of notes. The bow ends up being more bouncy. You are correct that some versions of Big John are played faster than others. :)
