That smile of the timpanist at 1:22 before the big hit! Made my day!
Fastest mute change ever at 1:29.

Good catch. He is the Hungarian born Principal Trumpet player for the Berlin Philharmonic
Rattle just has this energy and I just can't help but smile every time I watch him conduct. He is one of my favorite conductors!
Wonderful, professional musicianship. Mahler opened the new generations to the full orchestra. Bravo!
A melhor Orquestra Filarmônica do mundo.
1:29 tells you what is the best orchestra on the face of the earth

@@charleyhibschweiler4555 Hard disagree. Nothing against the CSO but Berlin has some next level of spirit and energy that I have yet to see another orchestra replicate. They're one of the only orchestras where everyone actually looks like they're having fun.
Acabo de descubrir está joya. Pelos de punta en cada segundo. Una verdadera obra maestra.
Each time I hear Mahler is like the first ... and with so great orchestra and conductor it makes all sense...
Phantastisch das Orchester, Maestro und die Symphonie von Mahler. Alles Herrlich.
1:34, the orchestra! Huge and awesome ! Thank you for this wonderful video!

BRILLANTE!!!!UN PRIVILEGIO PODER ESCUCHAR ESTA MAGNIFICA ORQUESTA EL
ARTE DE CADA
UNO EN LO SUYO Y UN SEÑOR MAESTRO DIRECTOR
They have so much amazing talent in this orchestra that it would be impossible to include all of these virtuosi in a single work!
2015 performance even better. More basses!
gotta love those high Cs in the horns
No termina de asombrarme esta orquesta!!!
Awesomeness defined.
LAS GENIALIDADES DEL CORAZÓN ROMPEN LAS BARRERAS DE LA INMAGINACION ((( sami )))☆☆
Thank you for put this video. It is of extrem importance for the studants of brass!
@richxx4 For contractual reasons, we may show the complete performances only as video streams on our own platform, the Digital Concert Hall.
Maravilhoso!
Thank you Rattle. Thank you Mahler.
I cant wait to see him and the BPO at this years BBC Proms in London - the highlight IMHO.
It was only to be expected that the tickets for the two concerts sold out within hours of appearing.
And jus think this terrific piece was neglected by the time of it's first performance.
🎧
0:20 we got mark zuckerberg on the violin here
Grandioso! This is awesome. I love it
Wow. This is an amazing performance. Especially since all of the performers look pissed of :)
BRAVÍSIMO
Qué belleza!
Wonderful !
Ja, das ist der Anfang des Finales.
Grande por siempre.
The guy you are referring to (just going off the Berlin Philharmonic's website), plays the violin.
@BBRENTTAGHAPP Yeah, I was going to ask, too...I think I've watched all of this BP clips...and there must have been a dozen concertmasters....(okay, I am exaggerating) :) In Philly, we've had the same guy for like 12 years now....
@BBRENTTAGHAPP This is a mere coincidence. Luckily, he is still with the orchestra and performs regularly.
Sometimes - depending of the repertoire and the conductor.
❤ ❤ ❤
SUBLIMELY!!!
Hi, any chance we'll be able to buy digital recordings of Mahler's symphonies conducted by Rattle? iTunes? Mahler 5 with Rattle is on iTunes.
Not in the immediate future, although we we'd love to do that.
We should sign a letter to google to buy this full concert and make it free for everyone!!!
@BBRENTTAGHAPP maybe in holiday :)
@BerlinPhil Do they switch our concertmasters for certain concerts?
where is Guy, the usual concertmaster? I haven't seen him in your recent videos :(
So little camera on Simon! Unlike the same piece conducted by Abbado in 1989, conduction itself in that piece is so enjoyable! Link to Abbado’s version: ua-cam.com/video/T4Zxjk7eYS4/v-deo.html
the very start of the 4th (last) movement.
Meu Deus 😱
Violinist...but yes! He does!
Who is the concertmaster in this video?
@briandonohue100 eh the CSO is still phenomenal. i just wish a few of their ancient brass players would retire already
1.28 BUM BUM ! :)
1:28
@DcTpet lol especially the guy on the right...hilarious.
Nossa! Mahler e suas composições dramáticas tal qual Wagner
The symphonic orchestra is the preeminent creation of European culture!
I recognize Richard Galler on principal bassoon...
The finale (4th).
Except for the timpanist at 1:20 with the boyish grin on his face lol

Those 5 strings basses..?
Yep. It allows the basses to go down to low "C" (an octave below the lowest open sting on the cello), rather than have to stop at the low "E"
Are you sure it's tuned in C? I guess it would also make sense to tune it in B, coherently to the other strings.
Daniele, it is my understanding that 4 string basses are usually (from the bottom up) E, A, D, G. Tuned in 4ths rather than 5ths (possibly reflecting their origin as "Viols", unlike violins and violas with their Arabic background as "Fiddles"). The 5th string adds the lower C a third below the E.
Fredrick Zinos, Nice, I didn't know that. Thank you.
My pleasure
which movement is this?
Who the funny which not like this video?
C’est trop normal…
Just another fancy exploitative commercial for the BP...Abusing Mahler and music lovers in equal degree. ...you have a problem with that?!
That is just a socalled trailer. Yet the title announced the Symphonie. Disappointing
Sorry ah I disliked it by complete accident T_T Don't hate me!!!! SHAKING TOO MUCH.
