  • How to Use a Circuit Breaker Finder
Also called a Circuit Breaker Detective
If you are replacing a light, an outlet, a light switch or anything else electrical, you will need to turn the power off at the breaker Panel.
If you don't know which circuit something is on, this is a very useful tool.
If you don't feel comfortable touching the electrical panel, there is no shame in that. :0)

Advice from an Electrician: I didn't hear Dad mention it, but also be very careful of that white wire ( Neutral) because it could be back fed from the panel and also be live if the circuit was not wired correctly. Treat ALL wires as if they're Live! Electricity is no joke!

    • @elix901
      @elix901 3 роки тому +12

Yep like in my grandparents house the neutral was hot and the hot was neutral.

Other than very basic stuff, I don’t like to mess with electricity for this reason. The fear of electrocution will be the reason I’m calling an electrician.

    • @vader7288

@@cameronphillips789 Always better to call an Electrician if you're unsure. However, you should also try to educate yourself on some electrical because some Electricians will charge you an arm and a leg just for simple fixes!

Great advice. In my country some people wire the coloring wrong, so we treat all wire as if people are color blind. Most of the time the coloring work out, but not always.

My dad was killed 3 years ago. I had to contact my uncle Jim, my Mothers brother to tell me how to adjust the rusty wheels on my lawnmower. I had to heat the bolts with a blow torch. But man , did I ever get a kick out of the whole process. I can do anything around my home if I research first, but I really want my dad to show me the things the text cannot, wisdom & experiemce. We bond. Cherished that.

These videos are amazing. Even though I haven't learned anything new I fully support you with a sub and views. One thing I think you should add that might help ya keep this going are affiliate links to Amazon. If you are using a tool on a video, leave your affiliate link in the description so that the young ones when new apartments or homes will know exactly which tool you are using so they don't get lost in a sea of it all at a Lowe's or Harbor Freight.

I am fortunate enough to have grown up with both my parents, but my dad lost his dad when he was 11. Growing up I was able to tell he originally struggled being a dad because he didn’t know how, but I never held that against him. What you’re doing is amazing, for anyone who lost their parent or someone like my dad to help raise his kids. At this point in time, I truly don’t need to learn how to fix a circuit board but I appreciate your channel so much and love what you’re doing so I make sure to watch as many as I can, watch all the through and like the video because you deserve the success from this channel more than anyone out there

So cool! Thank you so much! I remember redoing a light fixture years ago. A friend and i would go to old homes in Seattle to get old stuff before they tore them down...bathtubs, fixtures, and light covers, glass, etc., ...they were so ornate. We would clean years of paint off light fixtures, for example, and underneath was this gorgeous brass. So i was trading our dumb ceiling light fixture for this one. It was on a double light switch. I switched on the hall switch which was next to the dining room switch. I assumed they were on the same circuit, and popped it . I traded out the light, rewiring it, too. One of the kids then turned it on, and it was lovely! But this cold chill went threw me as i realized it should not have turned on! The switches were on separate circuits! God has been so good to me...fools and little children! I have lost count of how many times He spared my life, for real! He must have laughed a bit, too, when i begged Him not, too! Well, i am sure He hurt for me too. But looking back, i laugh. One very, very sad time i tried to hold my breath until i died😂😂😂 cannot even believe i thought i could do that. I think we all have a time or two of extreme heartbreak when it seems too painful to go on, yet, with God's help, we do. We are in His palm saved for the right day to go Home the right way, His way, His time. I am grateful it was not that day. I had lots of kids that needed me. But it is good to look forward, too. Heb12:2b❤ Thank you for showing this! Love it.

Neat device. If your next video isn't for a sponsor, I think you should make a video giving advice on what to do if you break down on the side of the road. For example, tell kids that there is a Roadside Assistance phone # on the back of their driver's license. Tell them where and how far to pull their vehicle off the road and how to exit safely without losing the door! On a weekday, a mechanic might be open that you can have your truck towed to, but they need to know that on weekends they can locate a mechanic, have the truck dropped off at the shop, leave a message on the answering machine about who it belongs to and why it's there. College kids away from home especially need to know this stuff. I know I did! Keep on doing great things, Dad!

Scaring me here Dad. Just an experienced tip from someone who’s been bit by a little electricity, turn the switch off at the wall and wear some gloves with a little rubber protective coating while taking the caps off and hooking up the detector. Then turn it on and check it. That’s a useful tool. I could have used when replacing some ballasts. Thanks!!

That's fascinating! I could totally rename my parent's house's circuit breaker just in case because they've never done any big home renovations.

This is awesome. My dad is a handyman but I watch your videos because he gets a temper when I don't do things correctly. I dont think that he even knows about this tool.

This is super cool! I can’t tell you how many flights of stairs I’ve run by turning off the wrong breaker, and realizing my light is still on. I used to plug in a radio if it was a regular outlet so I could hear when the music stopped, but this will be much easier. :-). Many thanks for your very useful content.

I never knew this existed! This is sooo helpful, especially when we were changing out all of our outlets and switches with an unlabeled circuit board. We ended up using the yelling technique with lots of trial and error lol! 😂

I am from Russia, and I want to say that in our country everyone who knows about you is respected, there are no people who do not love you . They say something like this about you: "This guy deserves 100 million subscribers!", "I don't know English very well, but I still watch it", please never leave UA-cam, you mean a lot to your subscribers .
(I do not know English well, so there may be mistakes , sorry)
