Dear Adam, thank you for your tutorials, they make a lot of things clearer. - A little tip from my site: if you want to delete predefined (file) names when saving, a long press on the delete key is enough (saves you having to type a lot). - A note on the songbook: I have observed that if you have saved a keyboard set in the songbook and then change the keyboard set, the same keyboard set in the songbook is not adjusted. This can have advantages and disadvantages. You just have to know it. Musical greetings from Germany from Michael
I like Adam's PA5X masterclass series. I am considering changing from an SX900 to a PA5X and it is good to know that there are these support videos to help understand the keyboard.
Great vid Adam. Just got my PA5X 88 and up to now it’s been a bit overwhelming - especially since my last keyboard was a Technics KN2000!! How things have changed!! you certainly make it seem less scary, and I’m grateful for the work you put in to making these classes. Thanks so much, Dave
Thanks Adam. Another brilliant tutorial. Learned more than i understood re Songbook, Set list which i was just doing the basic. The audio side of it intrigues me so will watch out for other videos. Just keep them coming in your easy to understand way. Cheers Arnie
A new PA5X owner here. I'm really impressed with your video that so clearly explains the capabilities of the Songbook and Set List features of the PA5X. I have two related questions about the file structure of the Songbook and how the PA5X manages the installation of new Songbook entries that one might load from external sources. I ask because this wasn't clear (at least to me) from reading the PA5X manual and I want to make sure I don't do anything wrong! First, am I correct that the PA5X - unlike past Korg arrangers like the PA4x - stores all songbook entries in a single consolidated songbook? And that in effect the new Setlist feature essentially eliminates the need to create separate songbooks to categorize and organize songbook entries? I am not criticizing this approach if that is the case. I just wanted to make sure I understand it! Second, I recently purchased and am about to install some new content for my PA5X which contains some great new keyboard sets, styles and songbook entries, all stored in a PA5X-formatted KST file. If I load all of this content (making sure not to check the REPLACE ALL box) into my PA5X will the additional songbook entries simply get incorporated and consolidated into the factory-supplied songbook? I just want to make sure what the procedure is before doing so! Any advice about this would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry I can't help you. I have a 4X and know it well. The 5X looks similar, although very different also. I am surprised the video erased the entire factory Songbook? I would think new entries could be put in the master Songbook and extracted into personal SET LISTS. I hope to get to SW to check out the OS and I will let you know.
@@solojim Thanks SoloJim. For the record, in the interim I went ahead and loaded content from that KST file I mentioned. But I took a more cautious approach, basically looking through the list of songs stored in the file and loading only those of most interest to me individually or in small groups. That approach worked fine, and actually was preferable because there were a lot of songbook entries in the KST file that were duplicates of the factory content. Based on this experience, I feel pretty confident that I could have loaded everything in the KST file without erasing any preexisting content if I was sure to first uncheck the REPLACE ALL box.
In this Master Class I missed information about what can be saved in the song book and what not. Mixer settings for sounds, mixer settings for styles, FX settings, muted style tracks, sound changes in styles, autostart behavior etc. That’s the tough stuff where the explanations in the manuals are really weak.
Hi Adam, really am enjoying your videos. I'm getting better acquainted with my Pa5X more and more. I think you may have covered it but my understanding is that a Songbook entry only applies to a single player. So if I recall a songbook entry as in your example, I have to load one entry from the songbook for player one and load in a second songbook entry for player 2 if I wanted to use the fader feature. It would be nice if a single songbook entry would be able to load both players as a single songbook entry!
@@ScanKeyboards Would it be possible to load the Player 1 and save - recall and add Player 2 and save? Perhaps that would show the new style/song with both new Players? Or, can you only save Player 1? even with my experiment.
Thank you very much for the explanations. You mentioned that you might do a video about keyboard sets in the future. In this context, could you perhaps explain whether and how you can keep the left part unchanged when changing the set from the keyboard set menu? I've read in the docs but I can't find anything about it. Thanks
Yes you need to play in the correct key, as for tempo, I've found that an MP3 generally is almost the same tempo as the corresponding style only one or two beats out.
Hi Adam so i have downloaded now OS 3.1 however my set list does not show in the matrix it shows mute on the 4th button is there another setting or is something wrong with the keyboard i have followed you're vid too the letter
Hi Adam. I've saved registrations I created in the songbook. I've backed the keyboard up. As when I add the new korg osmni download it overnights my songs. Can I import / export songbook registrations from a back up or do I need to start again.
I would load your stuff first then look in the Osimo .kst file, in the songbook folder press the drop down menu and select all and load. Untick replace all them you should have everything together...
If you are referring to genres, the songbook is a complete list that you can load as one or if you press shift you can load one entry or multiple entries as any time only by name.
I make a mistake selling my korg pax5 , now i want the keyboard back, i was thinking on buying the genos2 but i dont now , the korg in my ooinion sound better .
The KORG PA5X is a brilliant arranger. I have both Genos 2 and KORG PA5X. I had the first Genos for 6 years so the Genos 2 was familiar to me. I added the KORG mainly because of the synth sounds, different styles and because it is so well constructed. There are differences in the voices to compare. I find the strings better on KORG than Genos 2 but the brass on Genos 2 are better than KORG. That’s just my opinion on comparing. If I was given a choice of either KORG or Genos, I would stick with Genos. The registration set up is much better and easier to work around. But as I said previously, the main reason for adding the KORG PA5X to my Genos 2, was the synth sounds they are superb. I see the Genos 2 as a Workstation whereas the KORG is more of an Arranger. It really is down to personal choice. Try both keyboards out. You say you sold your Korg PA5X. How long did you have it and why did you sell it? Have you tried a Genos 1 or 2? What do you want out of your keyboard? Hope this is of some help to you. Good luck.
Good tutorial. But the song book crashes a lot. Specially when changing the setlist entries without stopping the playback engine. Also the patch changes within variations in a given track does not apply when the style added to songbook. This happened even on factory styles. It's good if you talk about these as well. The keyboard is two years old and still lot of issues. With updates more and more issues.
Just out of interest why would you want to change songbook entries without stopping playback? As each entry is tied to a style/song. If it's that you need more sounds just wait for the next video I might have found you the answer...

Thanks for this Adam. Never realised I could link my Sheet Music! Huge advantage, as I can't play by ear much. 😊
Brilliant video. Great explanations and tutorial.
Many thanks!

Another fantastic video thank you for that. I own a Pa5x, Genos2 & Ketron Event, all 3 keyboards are incredible.

Great tutorial, as always! A question, when you load and play an MP3 vocal, do you have to match the tempo and key to the song in style player A?
Yes you need to play in the correct key, as for tempo, I've found that an MP3 generally is almost the same tempo as the corresponding style only one or two beats out.
Hi Adam so i have downloaded now OS 3.1 however my set list does not show in the matrix it shows mute on the 4th button is there another setting or is something wrong with the keyboard i have followed you're vid too the letter
Press file, then menu, then factory restore, untick all and just tick settings, then restore that will fix for you.
Thanks Adam

When you load the lyrics in will the lyrics follow the song to the end
No you will need to use the arrow keys, wheel or a foot pedal. However lyrics will follow when using a midi file or CDG file.
Would it be possible to do another vid on loading lyrics to midifile then to keyboard
Thank you, helped a lot!
You're welcome!
Hola una pregunta puedo probar el tema musical con los cambios ante de meterlo en la registración
Only to play manually then if your happy save!
First Class video.Thx
You're welcome
Hola te hago otra pregunta puedo escribir los acordes que utilizo en la canción en la registración. Gracias
Create a text file and add to your songbook entry! That's what I do! Check the songbook video for how to do this...
Is there a video to show how to convert Songbook from Pa4X to Pa5X?
Million dollar question, as I have a boatload of Songs for live play in my 5 year old 4X. When I went from the 3 to the 4, it was a total nightmare.
Top-Top-Top
When you erase everything from the song book, can you bring back particular styles?
?? Sorry I don't follow, if you delete the songbook you don't remove the styles...
If you are referring to genres, the songbook is a complete list that you can load as one or if you press shift you can load one entry or multiple entries as any time only by name.

It's an aspect of creativity. You could join songs as a medley. That's one option to change songbook entries without stopping.

Songbook is best future but for now is useless with songbook bugs
What bugs you having? And are they bugs or is it just designed that way? Let me know happy to look into this for you...
